Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments That's great, Abir.

So, looks like Spell It Out for next week?

Russia or Novosibirsk?

message 452: by Jammin Jenny (last edited Oct 13, 2017 04:25PM) (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments I vote Russia!

I can take U or A.

message 453: by Tammie (last edited Oct 13, 2017 04:31PM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments I could do either
To read for this next week I have:
I just finished The Unidentified Redhead-U
Going to read: The Redhead Revealed-R

I also have an 'i' and an 'o' that I'd like to read.

not sure how it works if we have more people than letters...but I'm glad to do whatever.

message 454: by Lisa - (Aussie Girl) (last edited Oct 13, 2017 05:11PM) (new)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments I can take one of the S's - Karin Slaughter Kisscut (Grant County, #2) by Karin Slaughter but probably can do any of the others too if needs be. My TBR can be seen from space so usually can find something.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments And I've also got an I for the book I'm reading now - Isabella Fleur Bradshaw. The Secret Pearl by Mary Balogh

message 456: by Lexi (new)

Lexi If author's firsr names count I can take an S

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Eunice has answered our call for a new team mate. I have invited her over so she should be here soon.

Welcome Eunice.

message 458: by Lisa - (Aussie Girl) (last edited Oct 13, 2017 08:12PM) (new)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Team, Just something to think about re doing a short word like Russia. Maybe we should switch to the longer word of Novosibirsk for more points?

Points

TASKS
◈ Completing a task will earn the team 10 points AND
◈ If at least 6 members of the team read a book that contributes to the tasks, that is an additional 15 points AND
◈ If ALL team members read a book for the time you are at the stop, that is an additional 10 points

--so you would not get the additional 15 points. Just 10 and 10 if you did the spell-it-out and all read a book. So some teams have already worked out not to do the spell-it-out for countries like Japan or Spain as they want maximum points :)

Eunice | 666 comments Hi everyone! Nice to be traveling with you guys.

I've participated in this challenge with a different group before, but we stopped playing.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Lexi wrote: "If author's firsr names count I can take an S"

It does....

Spell-it-out rules

Using the first letter in the book’s title, the first letter of the series name, the first letter in the author’s first or last name, or the first letter of a character’s first, last, or nick-name, or the first letter in the audiobook narrators first or last name.
If you are reading a translated version, you can also use the first letter of the translator's first or last name.

As always, if the first letter of a title starts with ‘A’, ‘An’, ‘The’, etc., you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Eunice wrote: "Hi everyone! Nice to be traveling with you guys.

Hiya Eunice. We are up to choosing our 3rd Business Class stop. Spell it out - Russia or Novosibirsk - see Message 458.

message 462: by Jammin Jenny (last edited Oct 13, 2017 08:56PM) (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments I'm cool with the longer one too. We can stay longer at that stop if needed to get more books read. We'll need to read 11 books to get it done.

If we go with NOVOSIBIRSK I am planning on reading books next week that work for S, K, O and R so I could take up to 4 spots if needed. If we can make this a two-week layover I can probably find books to fit other letters if needed.

I'm cool with whatever the group decides.

message 463: by Lexi (new)

Lexi My S book can also be a B book

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments I feel confident we can do the longer word for maximum points but totally cool with whatever the majority thinks.

Probably to be fair if we go for the longer word everyone should initially pick a letter to read for so nobody gets left out and then the faster readers can fill in the gaps.

I can do any of the letters.

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments That sounds good to me! I updated our spreadsheet to show the spell-it-out for Novosibirsk. I've also listed it here and can update when people pick their first letters. I'll take B...

message 468: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I am planning to stay until the end. I have another crazy fortnight ahead (a friend passed away on Thursday so we have a funeral on Monday and we are moving house on Wednesday with delivery of this house the week after). I am trying to keep up!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Yep, real life often gets in the way of reading. See how you go Chava, Sorry about your friend.

message 470: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Lisa - (Aussie Girl) wrote: "Yep, real life often gets in the way of reading. See how you go Chava, Sorry about your friend."

Thanks Lisa. It's been a crappy year, this is the 2nd friend this year, both way too young

message 471: by Lexi (new)

Lexi I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Chava. I hope you stay strong through it all

message 475: by Bee (new)

message 476: by Josie (new)

Josie (josiemichele) | 96 comments Finished City Of Bones for the body part. For Novosibirsk I can take the other S for Ship Of The Dead. I am so far behind on the conversation for this thread. Hah.

message 478: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I can take R with Rene Denfeld's The Child Finder

message 479: by Jammin Jenny (last edited Oct 14, 2017 01:43PM) (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments I put you down for R Chava. Both S's are taken.

Right now we have 2 Is, 2 Os, an N and a V left.

Lisa, Lexi and Eunice still need to pick their spot. Once everyone has at least one spot, and after you read for your first spot, then you can pick your next spot. Seems like the fairest way to handle it. Three of us will get two spots this week.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments I just finished The Secret Pearl by Mary Balogh so I can take one of the I's

Character - Isabella Fleur Bradshaw.

message 481: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments We actually haven't finished our last stop yet so I don't think we can count that :(

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments I thought any book can be counted from the beginning once your team was officially started. I will go back and check the rules to clarify.

message 483: by Lisa - (Aussie Girl) (last edited Oct 14, 2017 04:26PM) (new)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Here's what I found in the set up rules -

◈ Books count that are started after your team thread is created. Provided the book is started during your challenge period, it can be used at any point during your challenge for a task or detour

... but if you prefer for us not to get ahead of the task at hand no worries. I can still take the I for next task as I'll be reading this next week. Duke of Desire (Maiden Lane, #12) by Elizabeth Hoyt . Lady Iris Jordan - Character.

message 484: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Cool - then I will mark you down for I

message 485: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments You have me down for ‘s’ but I just came across a character named Owen Wheeler if you prefer to change my letter...there are 2 o’s needed.

message 486: by Tammie (last edited Oct 14, 2017 06:13PM) (new)

Tammie | 4553 comments @Lisa...I also checked on this same rule and we can read ahead...
