Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments So, in order to get those extra 10 points everyone on the team just has to read at least one book while we're at our stop. So, the two people that aren't reading for the task just have to read something and post it in our thread, and we can claim those extra 10 points!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Oh that's great, Jenny. Thanks for finding out.

R - Beauty in Thorns by Kate Forsyth

Sorry, could someone tell me how you link the post number into the spreadsheet. Thanks.

message 55: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments First copy the URL to the comment you made when posting.

Then on the spreadsheet click on Insert, then click on link, then paste the link you copied from Goodreads.

Lexi Book: Zoo City
Author: Lauren Beukes
Date Read: 8/4
How it fits: First letter in book title is the "Z" in Brazil.

message 57: by Lexi (new)

Lexi Did I read the spreadsheet right that we get bonus points if we read a book that has the phrase "weak in the knees?"

Even if you are reading a paper book you can search for text on Amazon and it will show you all of the text that corresponds to your search.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Lexi, the way I'm interpreting it, is you can do the detour INSTEAD of the task. We picked the task so we can't get the extra points for reading a book with that phrase. It has to be decided at the beginning of the stop if at least four people want to complete the detour for that task. Am I correct, how does everybody else see it?

◈ A "detour" may be chosen at each stop by the team instead of completing a task. The detour will be worth more points, but be more difficult to accomplish.
--The detours available at each stop will be given to your team when you start, so you can decide in advance if there are detours you want to do.
--Each team will be able to do a maximum of 5 detours over the course of the challenge
--The detours will be random and chosen from our Goal list.
--A detour requires at least 4 members of the team to complete that goal before the detour is considered complete.

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Lisa, yes that's how I read it to.

message 60: by Lexi (new)

Lexi Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Talking about the detours, I have a couple of books with famous landmarks and no doubt being a big romance reader probably could do the old love triangle as well.

What are we all thinking about the detours? Plan ahead or just confer as we get to them what's available?

message 62: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments I think planning ahead is probably a good idea. That way if we hit a task we can't do, we have something in the works already.

message 63: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments I can do insect on the cover for our next stop if we want to go that route

Hyde (Hyde, #1) by Lauren Stewart

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

I can as well.
Unhinged (Splintered, #2) by A.G. Howard

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Here are the points rules...

Points

TASKS (max 35 points)
◈ Completing a task will earn the team 10 points AND
◈ If at least 6 members of the team read a book that contributes to the tasks, that is an additional 15 points AND
◈ If ALL team members read a book for the time you are at the stop, that is an additional 10 points

DETOURS (max 50 points)
◈ Completing a detour earns the team 25 points AND
◈ If at least 7 members of the team read a book for the detour, that is an additional 15 points AND
◈ If ALL team members read a book for the time you are at the stop, that is an additional 10 points

I have a few options for this as well.

message 68: by Lexi (new)

Lexi I could find something with an insect on the cover if we decide to do that one.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Sorry, I went all through my TBR and no insects at all.

message 70: by Chava (last edited Aug 06, 2017 10:04PM) (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I found this Listopia list for insect on cover: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8...

I hope that helps.

message 71: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments For "Book with insect on the cover" I can read The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby

message 72: by Lexi (new)

Lexi I stumbled onto this which might help some: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

Wallbanger by Alice Clayton
How it fits: Alice the A in Brazil

And are we the detour as well?????

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Are we aiming for everyone to do the next detour - the insect on the cover one? I'm sure I can find a book cheaply on kindle from the list you guys found (thanks). Just let me know.

message 75: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments I am happy with spelling out or doing a detour. I saw some of the other detours and they might be harder, but I'm up for anything.
When my husband heard I was doing another challenge (I'm slightly addicted), he sighed and said "of course you are, what are you reading this time? More zombies, eye balls dropping out, people being blown up?" LOL, he knows I'll pretty much do anything for the points :)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Haha, Chava, that made me smile. My husband asks me much the same question in much the same tone. And I will read pretty much anything for the points as well.

I remember reading The zombie survival guide for a challenge (I did not enjoy that book at all btw). I never thought it would come in handy until I recently had an adolescent patient who passionately spoke of an upcoming zombie apocalypse and how he needed to store up on guns. I was able to tell him that he was going about it the wrong way (guns don't work for zombies) and that I knew because of that book :) He knew he wasn't getting anywhere with me after that and we did some real work hahaha

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Ha, you guys are funny!

I would like to do the detour next I think. More points is more points!

How is everyone's books coming for this spot?
@Chava you are down for the "I" book
@Josie and Eternity, any book will do

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments No problemo. I will look for a suitable insect book. Can we start now or do we have to wait till everyone has finished the first task?

message 80: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments I think we are going by finish date but I'm not sure...

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments I finally found one in a series I've been reading. Score!

Sweetness and Light (Sweet Cove Mystery #5) by J.A. Whiting . There is a butterfly above the flowers at the bottom.

Let me know when we are ready to start for this round.

Thanks Jenny.

message 83: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments I think we're ready to start our detour! We have finished the spell it out task.

@Eternity and Josie, if you read a book between 8/1 and 8/7, please post a completion post (book/date read) so we can get another 10 points.

So let's get this detour started!!

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Current Point total 25

message 85: by Lexi (new)

Lexi Perfect! I just finished a book I was reading. On to the next.

message 86: by Chava (new)

Chava | 1522 comments Can someone keep track for me of the dates? I don't know how long we have per stop. I am in Australia, so I'm pretty much a day ahead of most of you (except from my fellow Aussie friend, Lisa :D)

message 87: by Bee (new)

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments Okay, I'll try to a book with insect on the cover next.
I'll let now how it goes though, I'm not sure.

message 88: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments We are at Stop 2 now, starting 8/8 and we are planning on leaving here in a week, on 8/14. We can stay longer if we need to but let's plan on finishing our books by then.

message 89: by Bee (new)

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments So, we're doing the detour on the second stop instead of the spell it out??????

message 90: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Yes we can get more points doing the detour and at least four of us said we can read a book with an insect on the cover. For those of us that can't, we just need to read a book (any book).

message 91: by Bee (last edited Aug 08, 2017 08:28AM) (new)

Bee (abirbee) | 667 comments Okay, detour it is.
I can read something with an insect on the cover.
I'll let you guys know what I come up with.

message 92: by Josie (new)

Josie (josiemichele) | 96 comments Okay I finished this on August 3rd.
And I Darken (The Conqueror's Saga, #1) by Kiersten White

For a book with an insect on the cover I'm currently reading Strange the Dreamer. Any way to make that count?
Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1) by Laini Taylor

Josie wrote: "For a book with an insect on the cover I'm currently reading Strange the Dreamer. Any way to make that count?"

"Books count that are started after your team thread is created. Provided the book is started during your challenge period, it can be used at any point during your challenge for a task or detour"

It counts.
