What Ken Sweeney and his partners orchestrated in their enterprise was nothing less than modern day slavery. Why do you think organizations like these are able to operate so easily without discovery?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments It's hard to believe that this goes on around us. I think there may be a combination of two factors: (1) people want to see the good in most people; and (2) if people see something suspicious, they don't think it's human slavery, or they don't want to get involved.

It seems that their ability to operate unimpeded is because so many are involved to help give them cover. I agree, Charlene, that many just don't want to get involved.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments It is really happening. A few years ago there was a business in my area that "imported" workers and kept them as slaves when they got here. I can't imagine how another human being can see something like this and not ask questions. In the story it was chilling how it was just business to them.
