It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

Read this last summer. Loved it.

I read it last year and loved it. I even cried at the end when all that tragedy came. I didn't thought I was going to cry but I did. I think it was a well written book and really interesting, it was just extremely good.
Oh!, and I think they made a good adaption of the book for the movie :)

I'll be reading this book this month, too ! I'm already reading it for another group :)

Ishita - The movie was excellent! It was the only movie I was able to watch from beginning to end this year, not including Maleficent :P
And I read the book halfway, watched the movie, finished the movie, then continued reading the book...it was nice to find some details in the book which were not featured in the movie ^_^

Fong- yeah, the movie adaptation was great ! It is one of the few book adapted into movies that was really amazing !
I'm really excited to read the book now. :)
