Fantasy Buddy Reads discussion

This is a thread (and folder) for all the MOD things we need to discuss until Goodreads gets it together and provides a private group messaging area (although I can see how that would be heaven for Spammers).

There's a way.

You could create a new group, set to be private and secret. Only invite the mods to it, and it will show up in your list of groups but no one that isn't a member would see it or see posts in it.

I like the idea. I think there's even a setting not to take membership requests as well so it should be easy. Plus if it's just the 5 of us we can be even less PC. :)

Have any of you notice the "this topic is about" book name disappearing from different threads randomly? I know I've added certain ones and even seen and remembered people's ratings and then I go in later and it's gone and I need to re-add it. Pisses me off to no end.

That's obnoxious. As I've been working on the archiving project, I noticed quite a few were missing that I had to add back in.

I'm particularly pedantic about how I setup threads for new reads and the bookshelf and it's happened to ones I've setup so I've been pissed.

I thought it was just me. I questioned myself and thought oh, well I can't have added the book and just re add it.

So I picked a couple of random groups and did some reconnaissance work to see how they're organizing things...

Comparatively, I really like how clean and user-friendly our group looks. :) Most of the other groups I looked at had one folder for buddy reads and like 200+ topics to sift through (and you could only see the top 5 reads, so it was difficult to see what authors they were reading). Also, our title lineup is so much more compelling - aka everything I'm interested in.

What I'm trying to say is - I love this group so much and have a ton of pride in how we moderate. Thanks for being great mods, and thanks for making me part of the team. :)

That's great to hear. It seems like we all have the best user experience in mind as our end goals, I'm also super proud of the organization and the great attitude of all of you guys in general

Yes. Especially my kitchen cupboards. I think Niki would have a fit if she saw my junk draw ;-). I'll probably have to bribe her with wine. If she drinks wine.

Is plum wine nice? I've never tried it.

Plum wine is sweeter than regular wine. I think it's Japanese? Really good. :)

What did the GR notification say they would do for future offenses?

I haven't gotten any messages from them, the person just said that they flagged me and said I should apologize to myself

Haha well if Goodreads doesn't object, then keep doing it lol. They probably tried to flag and GR said "come back to us when you have a real forum." Want us to go defend you? We can point out the whole "adult forum" thing and suggest they look for another group if they're offended. I don't believe we have a rule anywhere that says "you can't say "fuck" here" lol.

Oh - it's the Finn guy that started the Mountain Dew thread. He's just stirring up trouble. I vote we remove him. That's strike two.

Yeah - and Scott gave him a polite warning in the introduction thread. I think he's just trying to stir stuff up.
