What was your best investment in either time or money in publishing your book?

A good editor! Actually two: initially, one to help with content, but overall, with English usage.

My best investment seriously has been meeting all the wonderful authors here and on Facebook. Without your vast knowledge and experience I'd be utterly lost and stumbling in the dark alone.

I agree, RL. My best investment was the time I took meeting fellow indies who taught me so much. You know, there is not a nasty one in the group- that's nice. They always take time to explain things and never have that superiority thing going on.

But I agree, covers and editors were expensive but worthy investments, too.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments Yep! Same here. I'm glad you thought of that R.L. Immensely helpful. I don't do Facebook so Goodreads is everything to me. A good group is gold dust. Rare and valuable.

Prakash Sharma (pvsharma) | 105 comments For me, it's time. I have a friend who designs cover for my book. When I finished my first book, I was not aware more than pdf and word but in last five months, I managed to learn formatting in all formats.
As far as promotion is concerned, there are many scams, frauds and it's another tough task to find a genuine promo site at reasonable price, we can't see how they are involved, often we find that we paid but no sales in return, that is why I use marketing through social media and get sales, even I found some fans there.

Anna Adler | 25 comments Best investment timewise: beta readers. Finding them takes some time and effort, but I've learned so much from their feedback. I love my betas!

Best investment moneywise: professional editor and professional cover art.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1236 comments The right betas are a godsend.

Eldon Farrell | 289 comments The best investment in time I've made has been participating here on Goodreads. So many great people who are willing to share their experience and knowledge. Can't beat it :)
