Susie I will admit that I was not at all excited about this month's tag, but I managed to find one book on the list that was already on my TBR. I have of late felt that young adult novels may no longer be enjoyable to me, but for some reason this title had appealed to me. I'm really glad that I gave it a go as I thoroughly enjoyed this action packed tale of Kady and Ezra, a pair of teens who break up on the cusp of the invasion of their planet. We follow them during their interstellar escape. The story is told through a series of 'files': emails, military files, surveillance observations, artificial intelligence reports, etc. All is not what is seems and it is up to Kady and Ezra to uncover the truth and save their people.

There is no doubt that the intended audience of Illuminae is young adults. The relationship between Ezra and Kady is VERY teenage. The dialogue is quite cheesy, but you know what? I liked it! I found the book to be a wild ride and it hit the spot just when I needed it. I will definitely be reading the next installment, perhaps this month. Thanks PBT for pushing me out of my comfort zone. I doubt I would have made it to this one without the space opera tag, despite it being on my TBR.

Jen | 1545 comments Yay, I'm glad you liked it. I felt the same way. Terrible dialogue but greatly entertaining and the format was fun.

Susie It was heaps of fun! Your review was what convinced me to read it so thanks Jen. :-)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments I am so glad you liked it! This one was on my TBR for a while, but, like you, I found myself a little disenchanted with YA and took it off. I may put it back on...

But, it looks like with the "files" type of writing that it would be best in print and not audio....

Susie Yes, I think print would work best for this one as there is a visual element to it.

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments I was hoping to get to this one this month since it's been sitting on my bookshelf for at least 1 year. glad to hear that others enjoyed it. I'm usually a sucker for books that have interesting formats (letters, files, emails, interviews...)
