10.9 - Members Only
October is National Reading Group Month. Read a book that is a Group Read during September thru November for any of your OTHER Goodreads groups or your "Real Life" reading groups. Books shelved as "Currently Reading" or identified as a Group Read on the group's homepage or shelves work. You MUST be a member of the reading group. If you are NOT a member of any other reading group, read one of the 3 SRC Group Reads selections not used for task 20.10.
Required: State the group.

You may join a Goodreads group at any time.
A group's September thru November reading period may start in August or continue through December, but the book must be identified as a Group Read during the SRC challenge period.
ex. a group's August 15 - September 15 Group Read date works.

Author of the Month and similar activities listed as "Currently Reading" for the month work.

Nicola | 1360 comments Does it have to be only a Goodreads or a Real Life reading group? I'm a member of LibraryThings.

If they have Group Reads, it works.

I'm only in the one, but our September book is Middlemarch! I was hoping I could find a task for it in the Fall SRC.

Cat (cat_uk) | 3387 comments to be clear, my RL reading groups don't have a GR presence. I can use one of those books regardless, right?

Yes

message 11: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 421 comments What if another Goodreads group picks an author to read for each month, can I read any book by that author?

Thanks.

Do you have an example? Does the group call it a "group read"?

message 13: by Jamie (last edited Aug 31, 2017 09:27AM) (new)

Jamie | 421 comments Yes it's the MM Romance Group

Here's a link to one author chosen for July - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

You probably have to be a member to read it so...

Msg 1 from the mod says:

You may read any book by Riley Hart.

Please try and keep spoilers hidden behind spoiler tags. The spoiler tags look like regular html tags but say spoiler and /spoiler. Right before the text you want to hide put <*spoiler> and right after the text put <*/spoiler>. Just be sure to remove the asterisks.

There are typically 4 authors chosen each month.

On the group's home page they will feature a popular or most recently published book by each chosen author but for example the group's AOM challenge allows you to read any book by that author.

Thanks

Thanks for the info.
Yes, that group's author of the month is listed as "currently reading".
Please include that it was approved when you post.

Katie | 241 comments If we're choosing a book for our real life reading group, is that all we indicate in our post?

Yes, just state it is a real life group selection when you post.

Michael Mcdaid | 163 comments So if it shows currently reading that is considered a group read. So Miracles would work? And would any of the Narnia books work as long as they met the AR requirements?

Miracles would work.
The Chronicles of Narnia would work as that publication- "This edition presents all seven books—unabridged—in one impressive volume. " not as individual books.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3684 comments Just checking if you can see the front page of the Cozy Mysteries group: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Or msg 1 of the discussion thread:

A bit like Jamie, in message #13. I'm not sure if you have to be a member of the group to see the pages, but I want to use one of Julia Buckley's books for this task.

Can I get this one approved here---
It is only a read for September in my group.
Does this mean I have to read it in September though?

The Lost Heiress (Ladies of the Manor, #1) by Roseanna M. White

Bryony (bryony46) | 350 comments Are you allowed to read one of the SRC group reads (other than the one you claim for 20.10) if you are a member of another book group, or is that option only allowed if SRC is your only book group? Thank you

message 27: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8956 comments question - i have the thread that identifies my group pick being read in October - but its not currently listed in the currently reading (but it has the associated dates on the read shelf) - is that acceptable? (i'm going to post as such as risk the wall of shame)

A SRC group read only works if you are not a member of any other reading group
