ur evil stepmum (localbooklover_) Ok, so I know there's a whole "Harry Potter vs Twilight" But I want to know what peoples thoughts are without comparing?
what do you think about the actual plot?
Personally, I hate AND love it!

Lynne Stringer | 137 comments I like both Harry Potter and Twilight for different reasons. I thought the fighting between them had died down.

ur evil stepmum (localbooklover_) Yeah, I just wanted to see what people thought but without the comparing to HP......

SimplyƝì₭ (simplynik) | 267 comments I love the first book in the series. As the series progresses I don't really get excited again until Breaking Dawn (Twilight, #4) by Stephenie Meyer

ur evil stepmum (localbooklover_) cool!

Vanessa (bagofbooks) | 175 comments I am myself totally enjoyed the twilight series. now I think they should do a second series on the next generation just to see how's the younger generation sees the whole thing

Great idea! Bella and Edward DID have a child, so there is a next generation there.

I loved both Twilight and Harry Potter, but the latter is more fantasy than horror. I didn't even know there was a debate about the two sagas, but they are very different to me.

Magic & wizards vs. vampires & romance. Nope, I don't see much in common except both appeal to young readers! (AND older ones as I'm almost 56...........)

message 8: by Abbie (new)

Abbie I first read Twilight when I was in the eighth grade and loved it. I'd been reading Harry Potter since the second grade. I don't see any similarities between them except the supernatural element. It's not fair to compare them in my opinion since they are so different. Personally I enjoy both series, but HP has a special place in my heart since it's the series that really made me a reader and want to be an author myself.

message 9: by Gleidis (new)

Gleidis I love both.
I started Harry Potter when I was in middle school and it was a door to a new world. I'm not a wizard but i could relate to the boring life Harry was living before discovering Hogwarts, and is every middle schooler dream to live an actual adventure and feel their lives are extraordinary.

I started Twilight as a teenager and it was also a new door, a very different one, but not in a bad way. The whole romance with a vampire theme was perfect for me at the time. What teenager doesn't dream about living an epic love story with the guy that everybody wants but no one can have.

Even though Harry and friends grow to become teenagers, these books are completely different. I very much enjoyed both. With the pass of time Harry has become more famous and twilight haters never stop the hate, but I think both sagas have their value and will remain in my shelf.

THAT IS REALLY GOOD PERSPECTIVE!!

thats what i thought, like why are you comparing wizards to vampires..... if you were to compare something with HP it would be with the Hobbit or something....

I thought the plot was pretty good considering they were Meyer's first books. I enjoyed them, though, I have to admit I didn't think I was going to. I was pleasantly surprised. :)

Misty (intoreadin) | 43 comments I love both and to me personally can't compare the two as they are completely different. Two of my fav series as a matter of fact.

message 15: by Elise (new)

Elise (phoenix_girl) I recently read these books. A couple of days ago, read the whole series in two days. It was a grind.

It wasn't as bad as I was expecting but there wasn't anything particularly good about it either, and I don't think I could read it again anytime soon. If ever.

I read the whole series years ago, at the time I think the first movie had just come out and it was all the craze, so I read them more out of curiosity. I wouldn't say they were down right awful, but I found the characters very shallow and one-dimensional. Especially Bella. I also don't like it when a book revolves around a love story where the characters do stupid things in the name of love, if you get what I mean.

message 17: by Elise (new)

Elise (phoenix_girl) I agree. The first book was okay (if a bit strange and out there) but the second book was horrendous at the same time that it was laughably unrealistic.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I was couldn't stand the fact Bella becomes depressed and suicidal because Edward breaks up with her, I'm like what kind of lesson is that to teach girls?!

message 19: by Elise (new)

Elise (phoenix_girl) Not a good one, that's for sure.
And you made a good point about the characters, they were all kind of shallow and single faceted.

Kiran | 9 comments I've read the series however for me i prefer the movies than the books, although its not the books fault but the story of the series has so much potential however is not executed well at all and although i found the first book the best and most unique the writing degrades the whole plot book by book which is why i think if u don't want to waste ur time with the writing i think the movies are good alternative as even tho they are just as bad or worse ( and yes I've seen all of them and ill admit i still like the first movie the best). both the first book and first movie held much promise but the rest of the series in both formats struggled to get to the promising end which should've happened.

message 21: by Kiran (new)

Kiran | 9 comments i don't like how some people say "books are better than the movies" not because its factual and i do agree that books are inherently better than movies as they contain so much more detail and information then their motion picture counter parts however for series such as twilight for me the book series was a degrading mess of writing where the first book held promise but book after book become irritating with bad prose, language and devices that sent me cringing out my bedroom window and although i do agree that the movies are bad if not worse but atleast they dont require as much commitment to finish such a dragged plot.

Annabell | 12 comments So last year I read the Twilight Series and absolutly LOVED them! I didn't understand why everyone made fun of it so much and hated on it.
For the last couple months I've been reading Harry Potter for the first time and am in loveeee.
Now that I have read these I do find Twilight somewhat silly and definatly worse then HP but I still believe it is a good book with a few flaws that people don't look past.
I still loved Twilight tho and I won't put it down, it was really good and I enjoyed reading them. It just depends on the person and everything around them.
I don't think they should be compared they are both good and bad for different readers and appeal to different people.

Lynne Stringer | 137 comments I was thinking just this morning that I wish SM would finish Midnight Sun. It would be a great distraction from everything that's going on in the world at the moment.
