Review Group discussion

This is a general group. In joining this group you have agreed TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.
If you don’t agree to that tell me now so that I can find another member who will do so.
There is no genre filtering.

If you are only willing to review your own preferred genres then sorry, but you’re better off finding a group that specialises in your preference, or joining one of the 18+ groups or a ‘clean’ review round. In this general group you might be asked to review fiction/non-fiction, adults’/children’s books, a religious text, BDSM, or anything in between. Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate genre preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:

Anything and everything is acceptable in this group folks.
Whether you add your book to this group or one of the others depends on what you are comfortable reading.
If explicit material offends you, I advise you put your book in the 'clean' group.
If you book contains explicit material (sexual or violence) you have the option to join the 18+ group.
If you wish to change groups, simply delete your post from this group and add to another.

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you don’t think you can manage to do 4 book reviews between these dates please let me know now. I will find someone else for this group and you will be able to choose a later group that will be more suitable for you. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines. All reviews must be posted by .

When you have posted your review on GR please post a link to your review in this thread.

All reviews must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

You have the next week to exchange your book files. My advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). I'll stay with you for the next week to answer your questions then I will become just a group member and Hock will take over as your group moderator. Happy reviewing, everyone :)

One thing to consider: learn what you should post publicly here, i.e., links to reviews posted, versus what you should PM directly, questions/answers specific to a writer or reviewer.

Yeah, people should learn to make that distinction on Facebook too!

I've received books from Peter, Susan and P.G, still waiting on K.Cat

It seems as though I’ve run into a brick wall and I need some help. As the rules of the group states, one of the places where reviews must be posted is Amazon. However, I use Smash Words to publish my books and they won’t distribute to Amazon until they’ve sold at least $2,000 worth of books. I’ve only made a 60 cent profit, so I’m not even close to that benchmark. My question is, how do I get my books on Amazon without having to wait for Smash Words to come through for me?

You can publish direct to amazon or go via draft2digital who will publish it to amazon and several other sites as well.

You can ask your reviewers to post to smashwords, but they are not obliged to do so. You can publish your own reviews to amazon without having a book published by them as long as you have bought something on amazon at some point.

You can publish directly with them. Just don't go 'select'.

I've already posted my review for Lisa Marie's book (it was a quick read at 40-something pages), so I'm good with that. My only question now is, if I republish my e-book to other sites, would I be breaking any copyright laws (it seems like a stupid question because I own the rights, but Smash Words might not see it that way)?

No, because you didn't agree to give Smashwords exclusive rights to your book.

Very well then. One more question and I'll be on my way to Amazon. How do I edit the Good Reads pages for my books once the Amazon versions of them go online?

If they are separate editions you can create a new edition and then merge them together.

Hi everyone! Just to let you know, having spoken with Hock first, I've decided to pull my book from this review round. So anyone who was due to review my book, it's your lucky day, you only have to do 3 reviews this round :)

I'm removing my work from retailers, and I plan to spend the rest of the year getting the book up to scratch, so basically I don't require reviews at this time.

As for my commitment to this group, I will be completing all 4 reviews as normal; I look forward to reading! :) And you have my word.
