Wow, summer sure went by fast. I can't believe it's time for our September Reading Challenge. September 15 - October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. So your September challenge is to read a book by a Hispanic author.

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments Sounds like a wise time to read my audio book of Ripper by Isabel Allende. Up the queue it goes!

Becky | 280 comments Good challenge! I am considering books by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, Diane Guerrero, and Luis Carlos Montalván. I wish the library had The Dirty Girls Social Club by Alisa Valdes for this; my SIL says they're hilarious!

Linda Nielson | 280 comments I am going to read The Red Umbrella. It has been on my TBR list.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments I might just browse the Spanish section at the library.

Teresa | 255 comments I read the graphic novel Blacksad by Juan Díaz Canales. It's a film noir style detective story. All the characters are anthropomorphic animals. There's nudity and violence but also humor.

Alyson | 98 comments I finished "Silver People: Voices from the Panama Canal" by Margarita Engle. She does lovely verse novels!

message 11: by JoAnn (new)

JoAnn (jladybug) | 144 comments I read Becoming Naomi León which has been on my to read list for a while. I enjoyed it, although one bit bothered me because it didn't make sense based on my experience and could have bern better done, imho.

This was a really good book about something I didn't know happened; children from Cuba being sent to the US to live with foster families. I gave it 5 stars.

message 14: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 255 comments Linda, I'm starting The Red Umbrella soon for a different challenge. I also wasn't aware of this slice of history.
