Kerstin Gier's precious stones trilogy does not fit the description at all... It's about actual time travel and the main characters have no contact with any princesses.

Plantagenet Princess, Tudor Queen: The Story of Elizabeth of York, Faithful Traitor: The story of Margaret Pole and Queen of Martyrs: The Story of Mary I by Samantha Wilcoxson.

How much of the narrative was about this modern girl? Was she a major character or was the plot mainly about the princesses? How did they communicate and what did she tell them? And was the modern girl the same in all three books about different princesses?
