Voting is now open!

The entire Around the Year challenge list is generated by the group members. We enjoyed the process so much in the past two years that we are creating another list for 2018.

The Process:
The topics for the 2018 RC list will be determined through around 13 mini-polls. Each user will vote for their favorite 4 topics in each mini-poll). Suggestions for each poll will be opened until 15-20 suggestions are received+seconded. Then a poll will be opened for voting for four days so you can select your 4 favorite suggestions. The process has been unpredictable this year but we are striving for a completed list in November.

The Rules:
- Voting ends September 10.
- One vote per poll per member

Poll Entries:
- A book by an author who has published at least 30 fiction books or 10 non-fiction books
- A graphic novel
- One of the 10 books in your TBR with the smallest amount of ratings
- A book describing the experience of immigrants

Samantha | 1581 comments Once again some really fun suggestions. A few more that were easy to put in the bottom. And for the first time one I couldn't decide if I loved or hated (A book that inspired or is referenced in a song).

Katie | 2360 comments Interestingly to me, all 4 of my top votes went to resubmits this time. Hopefully second time will be the charm for at least some of them.

three of mine were resubmits as well - I almost choose a 4th one but decided on a new one instead.

As you said hopefully 2nd times is a charm!

Nicole Sterling | 452 comments There were a lot of good choices again this round! I also had some resubmits in my top four, but I only chose two. There were many I wanted to vote for when they were suggested, but by the time we had the final list to vote for, there were a couple of new suggestions that I wanted to choose, as well. I think I started out with seven or eight for the top spots and had to narrow them down to four.

My bottom four were easier to pick. I had three definite no votes from the beginning, and had a couple others that I wasn't thrilled about, so I picked one of those to round out my choices.

Can't wait to see the results on Sunday!

Angie | 69 comments I was really divided on my Top 4. There were about 5 I really wanted.

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I had a hard time finding my top 4. Lots if them I liked, but it was difficult to find which ones I wanted to win!

Jill (dogbotsmum) | 1356 comments Difficult poll for me as there were so many I like. A bottom 3 were easy, but had hard job deciding on a 4th.

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) This was a difficult one for me. I had a hard time finding a top four that I really liked, but also had a hard time finding 4 that I really DIDN'T like. It was a long list of "just ok" for me.

My top 4 ended up being a graphic novel and a book with a supernatural character because those were two that I know I will read next year regardless. Then I chose my own suggestion of a title with 4 letters or less for the scavenger hunt aspect that I always look for in challenge topics. And finally I chose an elderly main character because I wanted an excuse to pick up A Gentleman in Moscow.

My bottom four was a book set in a place you have been before. Unfortunately, I have not been able to travel much in my life so that was a very limited prompt for me. On the other end of the spectrum, I felt that #1 on a Listopia list was too broad for my taste. A book about food/cooking is a touchy subject for me right now so that had to go. The final bottom for me was the book inspired/referenced in a song. I just couldn't find anything that I wanted to read in the links given. Again, none of my bottom four were "bad", just the 4 of the bunch that I was least happy with.

This week was a lot like last week for me - lots of great prompts, and not many that I wouldn't like. I had a seriously hard time whittling down my top 6 to a top 4. I went back and forth forever.

Bec | 1337 comments I had a clear top 3, then quite a few I would be happy with either way, and a couple I really don't want to read.

Cheri (jovali2) | 542 comments Just out of curiosity, about how many members vote in each of the polls? Thanks!

Typically anywhere from 110-150 (ish).

Our highest poll was the 2nd poll with 153 votes.

Lizzy | 908 comments I'm amazed at how few vote. I think it is one of the best parts of being in the group.

Anna | 1007 comments Great suggestions this time too. I only had 1 at the bottom.
