Niki's Overflowing Bookshelf Challenge
Log update:
Audible 2 for 1 Challenge [2]
1. Zoe's Tale
2. Within the Sanctuary of Wings
Purchased: Magic Breaks
I bought a ton... 20... I'm weak. Audible had the "get $10 if you spend 3 credits immediately" thing, then the $4.95 sale. Then the kids $3.95 sale...
On the bright side, I'm almost out of credits and am only two months in... I'll make it all up lol. I'm counting sale items against my total (despite enabling others not to) because I feel like I need more accountability than most when it comes to book buying. ;P

How long would you say an ebook takes you? I can prob do an audio in 3 or 4 days, but it seems like physical or ebooks take a month a piece. I don't know how I used to have time to physically read 80 a year.
It's a matter of time, really... I think I read at about the same rate to a little faster than narrators when I read ebooks... 30-45 pages/hr... and I can skim the fluff that's boring/repetitive with an ebook that I can't on audio... so that means 8-10hrs per 300 pages... so it all comes down what comes easier... 10hrs audio or 8hrs ebook... and these days I have the same problems Bill does with ebooks (unless it's a 5-6 star book and then I read when I should be sleeping)... most of the time I'm lucky to manage a few pages of ebook then I just close it and go to sleep because I'm drowsy... audiobooks I can do about 5hrs/day usually, at least...
Them Stormlight Archive books are 45-48hr tho... so I was doing 8+ hrs/day to finish in 6 days...

I'm the same. I think I may need reading glasses. I just can't seem to focus like I used to. Getting older sucks.

8 hour audio days are tough. I do them but usually with breaks throughout the day.
8-10 per 300 book sounds plausible for my reading speed, maybe a bit faster. I took that staples reading speed test but don't remember the results haha. I think my issue is also time. I'm like you - I'm lucky if I get in more than a few pages before going to sleep.

Seriously. Thank goodness for audiobooks.
Seriously. Thank goodness for audiobooks.
My reading pace is generally about the same as an audiobook at 1.5-1.75X speed. The difference is long after my eyes are done for the day I can close them and listen to audio. I enjoy both formats and I'm probably split pretty evenly.
I can't listen to audio for too long when I'm laying down... I enter that near sleep state where you think you are still awake and listening to the audiobook until you wake back up and realize you have lost 10-20 minutes without even realizing... generally, when I bother to set the Sleep Timer in iBooks, I turn the book off and just go to sleep before actually falling asleep and letting the timer turn the book off on its own...
Haha I do that all the time! Until I have a true moment of lucidity and realize I retained nothing.
I've earned a book!!! Too bad I'm making up credits already. :P

Hahaha yeah I know what you mean. As long as you're enjoying the books you're reading, the list will whittle. :)

The Licanius trilogy is another series I want to get to. I own the first book - bought before I started this challenge. I'm guessing you liked it well enough if you bought the second one.

There are so many dynamics in it that I'd recommend waiting until closer to when the third book is out. I'm worried about forgetting stuff by then lol.

That's when I bought it. I was going to join in when the group was reading it here - don't recall if it was a BoTM or a regular BR - but I just couldn't squeeze it in.

Good to know, thanks.

Good to know, thanks."
I'm still organizing my bookshelves when I have time because I'm close to having 250-300 books now, so it's never a problem finding a book to read, the problems occur when I find something that I don't have and want to read! lol

I'm going to exploit a loophole by adopting a version of the FIFO Bookends mini challenge: If I read any of the books from this recent purchase before my challenge anniversary, then I don't have to use a credit to earn that book. :P

You can do it! 😉
Thank you two!
Laura, I'm not sure when I'll get around to it, but I'll totally take you up on it when I do! :)
