It's time! Yay! Put your reading caps on, my friends, because our week-long read-a-thon starts NOW!

description

We've cooked up some super fun goodies for you. If you're new to the ATY read-a-thons, welcome aboard! To participate, all you have to do is make a commitment to read as much as you can for one whole week. If you're behind on your challenge or reading goals for the year, this is an excellent time to play catch-up.

This time around we have a game of Group Bingo going. If you haven't already, please sign up for a team ASAP. Group challenges not your thing, or just extra ambitious and want to do take on even more read-a-thon goodness? There's also a brand new individual challenge in the form of a fun board game.

Per usual, we'll be sprinkling in some little games throughout the week to accompany our bigger read-a-thon challenges so keep your eye on the Read-a-Thon folder throughout the week.

1. What are your goals for the week?
2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!

Be sure to check in to the progress thread to update us on your reading throughout the week.

The first game is already live! Head on over to play some Scrabble - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

This one will continue throughout the week so be sure to return every day to keep your points up.

Zaz | 2969 comments 1. What are your goals for the week?
Finish at least 2 books.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
I'd like to finish Jane Eyre but with my pace, it won't happen. I've some quick reads for the challenge, but not sure they'll be enough to balance that. Classics are annoying!

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
Both. Team Ghosts.

5. Is anything going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Work, rescue kittens, my mom on holidays near where I live. Maybe, I'll find time to read :p

Work. My hours aren't awful but I definitely get less work done in the work week. Also just my general tendency to fall asleep while reading :P

I would like to finish at least a month early. Winter I'm on page 183 to start the challenge with.

message 6: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 546 comments 1. What are your goals for the week? I don't think I'm going to set any specific goals this time around. I'm finally getting out of a reading slump and don't want the pressure of not reaching my goal. I'll go with my goal is to read at least an hour every day!

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish? I'm pretty excited to read Illuminae. I've technically read it before, but I don't think I was in the right headspace for it. It hasn't even been two years and I don't really remember what happens!

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading? I will be doing most of my reading at home. I've been reading a little bit on break at work, but that's pretty hard most days.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
I am participating in group bingo on Team Scarecrow.

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Mainly just work, but fewer hours than normal so that should open more time for reading!

message 7: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments 1. What are your goals for the week? I am really behind in the challenge, so my goal is catching up with the challenge, at least a little.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish? Yes, there is a huge manga that I have been saving for the read-a-thon.

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading? Home and in the train.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team? Group. Ghost ... but I am still evaluating the individual.

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on! Work and chores at home :(

message 8: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1730 comments 1. What are your goals for the week?
To be a more active participant this time. I have the week off so should be able to play the games this time.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?I
Not really. I am ahead on the AtYB so only have one planned for this week. I do want to read some for the Around the World Challenge and keep up with the list my daughter wants me to read.

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
On my deck, it is supposed to be beautiful this week, or while gardening.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
I have joined a team this time, Ghosts, but have not looked at the individual challenge yet.

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
I have not been feeling well the last few days and have family visiting later in the week. We plan on going to "Word on the Street" next Sunday in TO though.

message 9: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3268 comments 1. What are your goals for the week?
To try and catch up a little on my overall progress. I'm currently 9 books behind overall, although progress on each challenge is actually pretty well on-track.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
The Sun Is Also a Star, which I'm already halfway through! I started this morning, so still within the read-a-thon.

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home, in my room.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
I'm on Team Ghost, and I would like to participate in the individual challenge if I can figure out exactly how it works.

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Actually, luckily for me, we've picked a great week. I have two and a half days off work this week, so I'm hoping to get a lot of reading time! My biggest barrier will be trying to balance reading with everything else I want/need to do.

message 10: by Marina (new)

Marina | 1312 comments 1. What are your goals for the week?
I haven't set any specific goals, but I'm hoping to finish the two books I'm already reading and hopefully one or two more.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
I'm going start Neverwhere as an audiobook and I've been wanting to read that one for a long time. I'm also going to start either American Gods or Wolf Hall and both have been on my TBR for a while now.

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
I'm taking part in both and I'm a zombie

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
As usual work is a distraction but othef than that I don't have to many plans during the week. Well, of course there's also a few tv shows I have to watch, but there should still be time for a lot of reading

Finish Right Ho, Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse (starting on p. 146), get to about 25% on Outlander (starting at 6%), maybe read a graphic novel and some short stories.

At home in my recliner. Or listening on audio while I sew.

Individual challenge.

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Work, visiting out-of-town later in the week.

message 13: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2360 comments 1. What are your goals for the week?
I have no goals set for the week! Maybe that's not a good strategy, haha. Maybe I'm hoping to finish 3 books, at least one for ATY.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
I'm really hoping my hold on Final Girls comes in from the library this week so I can start that.

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
I do most of my reading by audiobook, which I listen to almost everywhere: driving, cooking, working, cleaning.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
Both, and I'm especially excited for the individual challenge because it's brand new! For the team challenge, I'm with Team Ghost.

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
I have all day meetings at work Monday & Tuesday so that will hinder any audiobook listening I could otherwise do during work.

message 15: by Mel (new)

Mel | 177 comments 1. What are your goals for the week?
My only real goal is getting through some of my long-awaited reads this week. I don't have a set number in mind so long as I finish a few. :)

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
Eager to finish: Burning Kingdoms.I'm enjoying it a lot so far and am pretty sure I can get through it in the next day or two. Eager to start: Princeless, Vol. 1: Save Yourself, once I pick it up from the library.

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
At home mostly, probably in my room or the office to avoid interruptions.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
I'm participating in the team challenge (Team Zombie FTW!).

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Work, unfortunately, will probably cut into a few of my nights of reading; it already cut into tonight's progress for me. :( But at least I'm only working a few days this week!

message 17: by Bryony (last edited Sep 18, 2017 05:09AM) (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments 1. What are your goals for the week?
I'd like to read at least 600 pages and complete at least three books. I'd also like to listen to at least an hour or two of audiobook as I've fallen out of the habit of listening to books in the last few months.

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?
I'm most looking forward to The Dogs of Riga as I'm enjoying the Wallender series so far.

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
Mostly at home, either on my sofa or in bed.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
Yes, both. Go Team Zombie!

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
Indecision about what to read next is my biggest problem at the moment. I spend ages looking through my TBR and my library's Overdrive page before I finally pick my next book. I wish I could be more decisive and just jump into a book.

message 18: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 539 comments 1. What are your goals for the week?
I would like to read at least 5 books this week

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?
I would say 75% of it will be at work and the rest at home

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?
The group challenge. Team Scarecrow!

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!
I go out of town this Friday so I might not get as much reading done on Friday and Saturday.

Thegirlintheafternoon 1. What are your goals for the week?

To finish at least 3 books (ideally 5, but that's a stretch goal for this week).

2. Are there any books you're dying to start or finish?

Dying to finish Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism, which has been on my TBR for literal years, and to start The Bees, which I keep checking out and then not reading.

3. Where will you be doing most of your reading?

Mostly at home, but with some over-the-lunch-hour reading at work.

4. Are you participating in the individual or group challenges? Which team?

Nope!

5. Is anything that's going to stand in the way of your reading this week? Let us cheer you on!

Work has kicked into hyperdrive, so that's going to make things more difficult, but I'm up for it!
