A place to discuss travel books whether they be actual travel or time travel!!

Allison ༻hikes the bookwoods༺ (allisonhikesthebookwoods) | 1782 comments I need help with this one too. I'd love to do a time travel book by a Canadian author.

Mj I got the sense from the Bingo Description of Talie's Choice for a Bingo Square - that while it could be time travel book, it doesn't have to be. The description sounded like it just be a book that involves ordinary travel between two countries as an example. That's what I'm thinking of. I have a book in mind that takes place both in Canada in and Sri Lanka and involves travel between the 2 countries.

Edited 9/23/17 - forgot to mention the author & title The Hungry Ghosts by Shyam Selvadurai

Magdelanye @Allison hiking: just finished a book that you might find fits your wish
All our Wrong Today's by Elan Mastai. It's somewhat confusing but rather fun

Thanks! This book looks cool! I think I'll try it.

Allison | 2121 comments Because this square really suggests ANY kind of travel, either Sleeping Giants or Waking Gods (book 1 and 2 of a trilogy -- 3rd not out yet) could work. They're sci-fi for sure, but aliens travel between planets. Weirdly, I really liked the first one and have purchased the second! I may use it here.

Heather(Gibby) (heather-gibby) | 465 comments The book I am currently reading Lands of Lost Borders: Out of Bounds on the Silk Road would certainly work for his square, but I am using it for G3-a book published in 2018

Talie | 71 comments The spirit of this square is to be easy to fill. I wanted it to be open for a Steam Punk read or a travel diary read or a time travel read. I keep meaning to make a list of my favorites in all these areas of Canadian authors.

I have decided on my book about time travel... although i was trying to read my shelves and not buy books for a bit, I left the Grimsby Author series with a signed copy of All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai. His talk was interesting and engaging and I just couldn't help but pick up his book!

message 12: by Allison (new)

Allison | 2121 comments I saw him at the Kingston Writer's Fest, @Susan! He does give a good chat! I managed to leave without buying his book, but I do intend to read it and had tentatively penciled it in for this square too!

Allison ༻hikes the bookwoods༺ (allisonhikesthebookwoods) | 1782 comments Great minds think alike! I'm planning this one for Talie's square too.

Maybe once we get to it, we should have a buddy read!

Allison | 2121 comments Sure, sounds good to me. I’m doing it in audio. May start next week, as I’m first in line at the library.

I think I'll go with audio as well, since my library has it. I anxiously await your thoughts @Allison!

Just downloaded the audio from the Library as well - have it until Feb 8th.

Allison ༻hikes the bookwoods༺ (allisonhikesthebookwoods) | 1782 comments I have decided against All Our Wrong Todays for this square, my reasons for this being twofold. Firstly, I've read a few lukewarm reviews, so I'm not in any hurry to get to it. Also, I'm listening to Alan Doyle's latest book, A Newfoundlander in Canada: Always Going Somewhere, Always Coming Home and it works really nicely for the travel square. In the book he describes his travels across Canada with Great Big Sea and it really is a delight. I strongly suggest the audiobooks for both his memoirs as he narrates them and does it really well. Both his books are written in a conversational tone, which is why they seem to work so well in audio.

That is the one I am planning to read for this square as well.
