sangita S I thought the book ended with when theressa decided to break the relationship. Why did the author had to make it really sad by killing Garett.

Kathryn Colton the ending was good otherwise it wold have been boring

Megan Collier The ending fit the whole feel of the book very sad but fitting

Sarah Hobbs I must admit I agree with Preethi and Megan. The ending encompassed an unexpected, but interesting twist. The irony in it added to the emotional feel that the book had. For me it was definitely fitting and it felt right.

Mugdha Why cant Nicholas Sparks books have happy endings? I think his books have the power to move even an insensitive soul. Wish atleast some of the stories would be 'happily ever-after' ones.
It was shocking and v.sad to discover that Garett dies while making an attempt to restart a new phase of life.

Natalia Overall, I like Nicholas Sparks books, but I admit that bothers me that several of his books, one of the characters dies and that case has not only been seen in this book, but in most many. I don't know why he likes to kill and leave the protagonists separated by an insurmountable obstacle. I think that lack of work it.

Archodoula Vlg the ending was something that personally, I couldn't predict and I don't think anyone could predict it, to be honest. It would be boring if it was that happy ending story with the protagonists living their dreamy life. It was quite painful for me to know that Garett passed away but at the end, I was left with a positive perspective of life

Panagiota In the begging I didn't like the fact that Garett dies but finally I think that it fits the plot perfectly.

Nancy Love this story, it was my very first Nicholas Sparks book. I truly thought Theresa and Garett were going to end up together. I felt Garett's pain and sense of loss for his wife. His devotion to her after her death fueled by not only his grief but his perception that he was responsible. I never gave any thought to his dying as a possibility. I was so unconsolable my husband actually kind of chuckled and said "sweetie, it's just a story."

I agree. I love Nicholas Sparks, but don't like knowing there is a good chance that a good book will have a sad ending. I love the stories, but he makes me cry too often. Try the Longest Ride next. One of my favorites of his.

Shristy Dieing of Garett was no good but well, the story would get no better ending! Nicholas's books are so good that i always end up crying. The Longest Ride is what I am into now :)

Mugdha Felt sad reading the ending..wasn't really necessary...the characters could have happily got together [as it is the realities of life aren't perfect either :)] But that would have still been better than one of them going away.
So typical of Nicholas Sparks books!

Priyanshi Gupta I don't agree with the ending at all!!
There was no need to kill garett in the end, that was a lot to take after already the event when teresa broke up with him..
It felt to me as if the story kept going and suddenly ended abruptly....
I wish novel had a happy ending...

Ann Hendrix After all this time this was my first time watching this movie.
It was a really good movie and was really disappointed in the ending..Sparks does a lot of that.Dear John

Sinchit Rajput No, I wished it has a better ending, I don't like the sad endings of the books.

Hope I think it fit the rest of the story perfectly.

Christine Goodnough No, I didn't care for the ending, but this roller coaster may have just gone on and on if he hadn't died. She wasn't giving up her place nor he his.

My feeling: Garrett would have been a lot better off if she'd just stayed out of his life. She jerked him around so much: wanting him, not wanting him, going to him, leaving him. The poor guy! In the end she maybe got what she wanted but I'm sorry he had to pay the price.

Elaine cripe yes, as others feel I thot it was written very good and left a nice ending
