I started reading this today. I guess I am a head haha (only for this book)

Lisa (lisarosenbergsachs) | 124 comments That was one of the best books that I read in 2016.

Puck | 15 comments Sounds interesting! I've heard good things about this book, so I think I'll join you all in reading this novel.

Lori (momisreading) Looking forward to reading this one!

Lauren Zygowicz (lcottrell14) Started it last night. It is so hard to put down, so I can finish my classwork for the semester.

Candace | 41 comments Started it this week. I'm enjoying the story.

Nanci | 6 comments Maria, I figured out how to join the group, so you can ignore my message. My computer's hard drive crashed on me a few days ago, so using the app on my iPad, which is a bit different. Looking forward to discussing the book with all of you. I've already read it, so it will be fun to see what you all think.

Lars Jerlach (larsjerlach) | 1 comments I found this novel an interesting and illuminating piece of work, with thoughtful yet enigmatic things to say about the slipperiness of time.

Cam I really enjoyed the beginning of this book - especially the inclusion of Japanese and discovering about the narrator's worlds. The bizarre dream sequence about 2/3 of the way through felt like a cop-out rather than something woven through the stories and I wasn't particularly convinced by her handling of the WW2 narration (too many voices and they all sounded the same). I was also expecting a more spiritual book with more emphasis on Jiko's life...

Lisa (lisarosenbergsachs) | 124 comments I especially enjoyed seeing Jiko's diary. I found her issues and life in Japan after having lived in California fascinating.

Candace | 41 comments I finished A Tale for the Time Being early this Christmas morning. It discusses what Time Being is, touches on the Buddhist religion and contemplates the different super powers. My review can be found at Candace's Review A Tales for the Time Being.

Tippy | 11 comments This book is exactly why I joined this group. I may have never found/chosen to read this book and it's now one of my favorites. Just wow. Talk about intense. I felt so connected to the characters, it was like I was right there with them.

Gisela Hafezparast | 30 comments I read this book quite a while ago but my teenage daughter also picked it up. We both loved it for slightly different reasons. Her because of the teenage girl aspect me because of the historical details. We both really loved this amazing insight in Japanese culture.

I am not so convinced about the device of a second narrative alongside the main one, which is sometimes weird, although interesting at times. Not sure if that really added anything to the story and at times it confused me as I was expecting more than came out of it in the end. But maybe, I just didn't get it!
Definitely a good read, which makes you think not just about Japan and its history and culture but also about how we all tread each other and the consequences of our actions
