J.G. Follansbee (joe_follansbee) | 10 comments My second-favorite 60s TV series, The Prisoner, turned 50 today! Did you watch the series? If you can't quote the opening title's dialog, are you still a true fan? Why did you resign? Haha! If you lived in The Village, what would your number be?

Here's NPR's backgrounder.

Stevie Roach Only your second favorite? What's your first?

I wouldn't have a number, because I am not a number, I am a free man! Unmutual!

Phrynne Are you serious! Fifty!!! Where did the time go?
A few years ago I rewatched a few episodes but it was sadly very dated. When it first came out though it was compulsive viewing:)

Joseph Carrabis (josephcarrabis) I heard about the 50th anniversary on NPR. I had to sit back and catch my breath, oh, the memories. My wife got me the boxed set some years back and I waited quite some time before watching them. Had to wait until I was ready, could devote myself to the chills I experienced as a not-quite teen. Almost tuned my set to B&W to get the full feel of the original experience.
Dated? Hardly. It was the story, not the special effects.
For me, anyway.

idiffer The prisoner is the ONLY 60's series that I dared to watch. Liked all the weirdness, though I didn't get what was happening at all. Like all the things number 2 did to the protagonist seemed pointless. And props to the screenwriter for being arthouse in an era, when there was very little of it (I think), AND doing it in TV show format.
