I have not done KDP in the past because I had 2 relatives who owned Nooks, so I put my books on Smashwords for them. But I've had no sales on Smashwords otherwise. I'm wondering if it would be wise to just remove them from Smashwords now and enroll in KDP. Any thoughts? Is KDP worth it?

If you are selling it on Amazon for Kindle you can do both, if you are going to go with the KDP select, you can't.

Unless you want the fetures included with Kindle Select, you can publish them both places w/out a problem.
Amazon has the biggest slice of the eBook market by far. Many people say it's really only worth publishing on amazon...But it can't hurt to have them available in more formats (Kindle Select featues excluded, of course).
So I can do the Kindle COuntdown Deal if i'm not in Kindle Select?
From what I understand, Amazon doesn't really advertise those deals, anyway. And, people correct me if I'm wrong, you can run a special on SW and Amazon will price match it. So you can advertise your own deal, whatever it may be, and put it into action yourself. In the end, it will be the same amount of work, but with more control.
OK, then I used the wrong words up there. My question should be whether or not I should take my books off Smashwords and keep them exclusively on Amazon so I can sign up for Kindle Select.
I wouldn't, personally. Since I haven't gotten on to SW yet, I have my first book in Select to make running a special easier, but since you're already on SW, you should be able to run specials anyway. They don't actually do anything for you when you sign up for Select, except give you the right to run one sale every 3 months or something.
Maybe it's a genre thing, but none of the KDP Select features seemed to help any. I've done just the opposite; I'm in the process of removing all of my books from KDP Select and putting them on Smashwords.
