That's why you chose songs without words :)

anise For some reason, listening to music with lyrics helps me concentrate more. So I like listening to music when basically doing anything, from homework to reading to drawing to writing.

Morgan Young | 31 comments I listen to whatever music matches the story's rhythm. If I am just starting a book and don't know the rhythm yet, I'll listen to older songs that I've heard a million times (mostly 80s and 90s music) or classical piano music until I get a feel for the book's content.

Cyn (lostinstoryville) | 47 comments I don't mind it. I like to have some background noise, whether that be music or a tv program, or preferably the sounds of rain outside.

I don't like sitting in utter silence.

But I hardly plug in my headphones when reading.

Mashal Ahmad | 11 comments I don't really listen to songs while reading but yeah sometimes a calm instrumental music really adds to the environment. My fav is 2cellos.

Adibah Atiqa (persephtiyareads) (persephtiyareads) | 25 comments I create a book playlist for the book I’ve read. Usually they’re all music scores and epic cinematic 🙌🏻💯

̷R̷̷e̷̷y̷ (detectingeagle310) I like listening to songs like let me love you but played on the violin. I don't want to hear the lyrics or anything. I just need the tune and the beats.

I typically listen to gaming soundtracks! If a book I'm reading has a musical based on it, I'll play it while I'm reading.

stu (blobmustardsprinkles) | 704 comments I like music with everything else even when doing schoolwork but a definite no for music with reading

˙⋆✮ Anny ✮⋆˙ (annithebookprincess) I recently discovered some sort of meditation music tuned to a special frequency (like 111 hz) on YouTube that's great as background music for reading!

Vivian ¥ (attackofolympus) | 28 comments I don’t typically listen to music while reading, usually I read to white noise ( rain , fireplace, waterfall, etc). If I were to listen to music it would be original scores.

Samantha Deyo | 17 comments no, too distracting lol

message 69: by Stephani (new)

Stephani | 8 comments I like ambient, maybe ambient house music or nothing, just distant sounds like wind and birdsong, or preferably background sound like Cafe hustle and bustle and the smell of coffee or tea and or thunder and rain are good background for me.

message 70: by Tony (new)

Tony (flintflash) | 229 comments I find that I need some type of ambient music or sounds when I read. If it is too quiet, I end up getting distracted by sounds outside, the dogs, activity going on in other rooms of the house, etc. For music, I enjoy classical or jazz lightly playing in the background, definitely no lyrics or singing. Soundtrack music is always fun too. When reading a western, it's fun to have Ennio Morricone's soundtracks to "A Fistful of Dollars" or "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" playing in the background. Other soundtrack music can liven up a good thriller, such as music from Two Steps From Hell or Immediate Music. Mostly, I prefer some type of 'white noise' such as the sound of a thunderstorm, rainfall, ocean waves, or waterfall. Many music apps, like Spotify, have different soundtrack lists or white noise sounds to play for ambient music/sounds for reading. Just my two cents.
