Craig White | 6727 comments Questioningly her eyes looked at me
And then she spoke aren't you someone I used to know
And weren't we lovers a long time ago?
Looked at her close forced her into view
Yes, I said, you're a girl
That I once may have knew
But I don't love you anymore
Why do you want to talk to me for?
You should have just let me walk by
Memories make us cry
In the morning, I'm at work at time
My boss he tells me that I'm doing fine

When I'm going home
Whiskey bottle movie on T.V.
Memories make me cry
And I'm alone just me
Just me, Questioningly
But I dont love you anymore...
Looked at her close...
Questioningly her eyes looked at me...

Jemma | 1234 comments "The Way We Were"

Mem'ries,
Light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories
Of the way we were
Scattered pictures,
Of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another
For the way we were
Can it be that it was all so simple then?
Or has time re-written every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we? Could we?
Mem'ries, may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter
We will remember
Whenever we remember...
The way we were...
The way we were...

Val H. | 22152 comments I was following tech and as I had to type this out from the record (the lyrics aren't on the 'net anywhere), I'm going to use it:

Maybe it’s the way her hair hung down across the collar of her dress
Maybe it’s the way she was laughing with her friends
She was too young and I could see a thing with which I shouldn’t really mess
But when I finished playing I was glad she’d stayed until the end
(Then I said to my friend)

She reminds me of someone that I used to know
She reminds me of someone I knew long ago
Someone that I used to know

The band were laughing at the way I quickly packed up all my stuff
Somebody said I was rising for a fall
But when she laughed at nearly every word I said it was enough
Her friends were laughing too, I got the biggest laugh of all (when I said)

You remind me of someone that I used to know
You remind me of someone I knew long ago
Someone that I used to know

I couldn’t put my finger on it
Though I’d give anything to know
She strung me along for near an hour
And then she said she had to go, oh, and by the way, …..
Her mother said to say hello
(Ahhh no)
Her mother said to say hello … hello … hello

And in an instant twenty years just turned to dust
And I thought about one summer and a squalid room I’d shared
With a girl who just left university but knew it all
Well she left me for some other life but I’m still standing here
And it’s surprising what you can see when the lights are focused right
All of the demons and the ghosts you might have met along the way
I told her to tell her mum that we should catch up one night
But really I was happy we were flying out next day
(After all to a girl like that what could I say?)

You remind me of someone that I used to know
You remind me of someone I knew long ago
Someone that I used to know

(Next day) Beef or chicken? The hostess asked me on the plane
I could not answer, something had stalled inside my brain
Are you all right sir?, she asked. She touched me on the head.
She smiled at me a little bit and this is what she said……

(She said) You remind me of someone that I used to know
You remind me, ahhh come on, how did your song go?
You remind me of someone I knew long ago
Someone that I used to know
Someone I knew long ago
Someone that I used to know

Jemma | 1234 comments There's Always Something There To Remind Me

I walk along the city streets
you used to walk
along with me
and every step I take
recalls how much in love
we used to be

Oh, how can I forget you
when there is
always somethin'
there to remind me
always somethin'
there to remind me

I was born to love you
and I will never be free
you'll always be a part of me
a-woah-woah-woah

When shadows fall
I pass a small cafe where
we would dance at night
and I can't help recallin'
how it felt to kiss
and hold you tight

Oh, how can I forget you
when there is
always somethin'
there to remind me
always somethin'
there to remind me

I was born to love you
and I will never be free
you'll always be a part of me
a-woah-woah-woah
woah-woah-woah-oh...

If you should find
you miss the sweet and
tender love we used to share
just come back to
the places where we used
to go and I'll be there

Oh, how can I forget you
when there is
always somethin'
there to remind me
always somethin'
there to remind me

I was born to love you
and I will never be free
when there is
always somethin'
there to remind me

Always somethin'
there to remind me
always somethin'
there to remind me

Martin O' | 2196 comments I was grinding through my day gig
Stackin' cut-outs at the Strand
When in walks Fanny from NYU
We were quite an item back then
We talked about her films and shows and cds
And I don't know what else
She said," Yeah, Hollywood's been good to me
But tell me how about yourself."
I'm still working on that novel
But I'm just about to quit
Cause I'm worrying about the future now
But maybe this is it
It's not all that I thought it would be
What a shame about me
She said," Talk to me, do you ever see
Any of our old crew?"
Bobby Dakine won the Bunsen Prize
Now he's coming out with something new
Alan owns a chain of Steamer Heavens
And Barry is the Software king
And somebody told me in the early 80's
You were gonna be the next best thing
"Well now, that was just a rumour
But I guess I'm doing fine
Three weeks out of the rehab
Living one day at a time
Sneaking up on a new century
What a shame about me"
What a shame about me
I'm thinking of a major Jane Street sunrise
Amd the goddess on the fire escape was you
We both run out of small talk
And the connection seemed to go dead
I was about to say hey, have a nice life
When she touched my hand and said
"You know I just had this great idea
This could be very cool
Why don't we grab a cab to my hotel
And make believe we're back at our old school"
I said," Babe you look delicious
And you're standing very close
But like this is Lower Broadway
And you're talking to a ghost
Take a good look it's easy to see
What a shame about me"

Val H. | 22152 comments Tommy's selling used cars, Nancy's fixing hair
Harvey runs a grocery store and Margaret doesn't care
Jerry drives a truck for Sears and Charlotte's on the make
And Paul sells life insurance and part time real estate

Helen is a hostess, Frank works at the mill
Janet teaches grade school and prob'ly always will
Bob works for the city and Jack's in lab research
And Peggy plays organ at the Presbyterian Church

And the class of '57 had its dreams
Oh We all thought we'd change the world with our great works and deeds
Or maybe we just thought the world would change to fit our needs
The class of '57 had dreams

Betty runs a trailer park, Jan sells Tupperware
Randy's on an insane ward and Mary's on welfare
Charlie took a job with Ford and Joe took Freddie's wife
Charlotte took a millionaire and Freddie took his life

John is big in cattle, Ray is deep in debt
Where Mavis finally wound up is anybody's bet
Linda married Sonny, Brenda married me
And the class of all of us is just a part of history

And the class of '57 had its dreams
But living life day to day is never like it seems
Things get complicated when you get past eighteen
But the class of '57 had its dreams
Oh the class of '57 had dreams

Craig White | 6727 comments "Damn that television what a bad picture"!
"Don't get upset, it's not a major disaster".
"There's nothing on tonight", he said, "I don't know what's the matter"!
"Nothing's ever on", she said, "so I don't know why you bother."
We've heard this little scene, we've heard it many times.
People fighting over little things and wasting precious time.
They might be better off I think the way it seems to me.
Making up their own shows, which might be better than T.V.
Judy's in the bedroom, inventing situations.
Bob is on the street today, scouting up locations.
They've enlisted all their family.
They've enlisted all their friends.
It helped saved their relationship,
And made it work again

Jemma | 1234 comments "Power Of Two"

Now the parking lot is empty
Everyone's gone someplace
I pick you up and in the trunk I've packed
A cooler and a two day suitcase

Cause there's a place we like to drive
Way out in the country
Five miles out of the city limit we're singing and your
Hand's upon my knee

[Chorus:]
So we're okay
We're fine
Baby I'm here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
We'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that's true
Multiply life by the Power Of Two

You know the things that I am afraid of
I'm not afraid to tell
And if we ever leave a legacy it's that we
Loved each other well

Cause I've seen the shadows of so many people
Trying on the treasures of youth
But a road that's fancy and fast ends in a fatal crash
And I'm glad we got off to tell you the truth

[Chorus:]
Cause we're okay
We're fine
Baby I'm here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
We'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that's true
Multiply life by the Power Of Two

All the shiny little trinkets of temptation
(Make new friends)
Something new instead of something old
(But keep the old)
All you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface
(But remember)
And it's fools gold
(What is gold)
Fools gold
(What is gold)
Fools gold
(What is gold)

Now we're talking about a difficult thing and your
Eyes are getting wet
I took us for better and I took us for worse
Don't you ever forget it

The steel bars between me and a promise
Suddenly bend with ease
The closer I'm bound in love to you
The closer I am to free

[Chorus:]
Cause we're okay
We're fine
Baby I'm here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
We'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that's true
Multiply life by the Power Of Two

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It was getting deeper into the night, Knew you weren't coming home
Nothing I was doing was right, And now I've got to face it alone
The night getting darker, baby, the darker it got, Struggled with why and what?

But I could not fight what I knew was true
I was not going to get through the night
Without the power of two ... Me and you

Feeling like I'm out on a ledge standing, With my back to the wall
l use to be I'd go straight ahead, Now I'm going nowhere at all
The night getting longer, baby, the longer it went, Just didn't make any sense?

Couldn't see, couldn't hear, Didn't know what to do?
Was like I had no power at all?
Without the power of two ... Me and You

I never knew before that two was more than one and one, Until that night
There's nothing I could do but think of how I'm losing you
And it shook me, it shocked me, You locked me out there

Looking for a place I could hide, Searching for a corner to turn
Left me here alone for one night, Showed me I had something to learn
I tried not to need you but I needed you anyway, It wouldn't be easy to say

But the way that I see it I'm half without you
And I'm not going to make myself whole
Without the power of two ... Me and you

Morning couldn't wait, I knew that it was getting late
But I hung on I had no choice at all
It was either walk away or crawl, And I'm bleeding, I'm bleeding

I think I'm falling deeper into that hole, Deeper then I thought I could get?
Like a bug that's stuck in a bowl climbing out is impossible
Yet he keeps trying harder, Harder then he thought he could

I finally understood, I could hear, I could see, And the truth came through
We had ten time the power of one
We had the power of two ... Me and you

There's nothing we couldn't do, Just me and you, We had the power of two

nocheese | 6824 comments Have we come this far to have gone astray?
I've been lost before, but not lost this way
You and me, thought we'd be
Evermore
Do I know you?
Did I ever?
Thought I did
Now, I know better
Saw the signs but not the danger
How'd you get to be a stranger at my door?
Promises got left behind
And reason fell between the lines
The words unsaid we should have spoken
Both misled and left us broken
Evermore
Have we said it all?
Is there more to say?
Thought we'd paid our dues
Is there more to pay?
What's to be of you and me
Evermore?
Was it love or just illusion?
All I see is our confusion
Came upon us unsuspecting
Here we are reflecting on the last of it
If you think of me in a year or two
Find that photograph showing me with you
What you see is what should be
Evermore
Why?
Tell me why
Don't know why
Oh, why?
Where's the truth we took for granted?
Walking out's not how we planned it
Played it loose, but stayed together
Thought we had the truth
But never knew the score
If it's done for now
And its time to go
There's one thing unsaid
Thought you'd want to know
Love you still...guess I will
Evermore
Love you still...yes I will
Evermore

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Standin' at the door of the Pink Flamingo cryin' in the rain
It was a kind of so-so love, And I'm gonna make sure it never happens again
You and I, it had to be the standing joke of the year?
You were a sleep-around, a lost and found, And not for me, I fear

I tried to make it work, you in a cocktail skirt
And me in a suit ... well, it just wasn't me
You're used to wearing less, And now your life's a mess, so insecure, you see
I put up with all the scenes, This is one scene that's goin' to be played my way

Take your hands off me, I don't belong to you, you see
And take a look at my face for the last time
I never knew you ... you never knew me ...
Say hello goodbye, Say hello, wave goodbye

Under the deep red light, I can see the make-up slidin' down
Well, hey little girl, you will always make up, So take off that unbecoming frown
What about me? well, I'll find someone, Who's not goin' cheap in the sales
A nice little housewife who'll give me a steady life, And not keep going off the rails

Take your hands off me, I don't belong to you, you see
And take a look at my face for the last time
I never knew you ... you never knew me ...
Say hello goodbye, Say hello, wave goodbye

We've been involved for quite a while now, And to keep you secret has been hell
We're strangers meeting for the first time, okay? Just smile and say hello
Say hello, then wave goodbye, Say hello, then wave goodbye
Say hello, then wave goodbye, Say hello, then wave goodbye

(Soft Cell)

You're released but your custody calls
And I want to be free
Don't you want to be free
Do you like girls or boys

But Moondust will cover you
Cover you

Bye bye love

Yeah bye bye love

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Bye bye love, Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness, I think I'm gonna cry?
Bye bye love, Bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness, I feel like I could die
Bye bye my love, goodbye

There goes my baby, With someone new
She sure looks happy, I sure am blue
She was my baby, Till he stepped in
Goodbye to romance, That might have been

Bye bye love, Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness, I think I'm gonna cry?
Bye bye love, Bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness, I feel like I could die
Bye bye my love, goodbye

I'm through with romance, I'm through with love
I'm through with counting, The stars above
And here's the reason, That I'm so free
My loving baby, Is through with me

Bye bye love, Bye bye happiness
Hello loneliness, I think I'm gonna cry?
Bye bye love, Bye bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness, I feel like I could die
Bye bye my love, goodbye, Bye bye my love, goodbye

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I much prefer S&G to The Everly Brothers - although I do also like the YouTube clip of S&G & The Everly Brothers performing it together live in Concert as well ;o>

I find it best to be prepared, For the tricks of the light
And the shadows things throw, If you hold them too tight
Ohhh, time is a train and, It's lost to the bend
I will chase down the wreck, Alongside my friend goodbye
My friend goodbye

Well, at the chime of a clock, At the toss of a coin
Wherever you are? From Dubai to Des Moines
Ohhh, let go of my hand, Let's make this the end
I will take off alone, Just me and my friend goodbye
My friend goodbye, My friend goodbye

Some things we'll always know, Hearts and distances grow
Just give me enough rope, And I'll still hang on
To hope, has roots, Like a willow tree
Arcing and searching, For the water in me
Ohhh I love you, I love you, And I watch you ascend
With joy and with loss, With my friend goodbye
My friend goodbye, My friend goodbye, My friend goodbye
Goodbye, Goodbye

Can you hear me? Can you hear me?
No one cared enough to stay
Can you hear me? Can you hear me?
You must remember the old man
I know that you can if you try
So just open up your eyes old man
Look who's come to say goodbye
The sun has left the sky old man
The birds have flown away
And no one came to cry old man
Goodbye old man goodbye
You want to stay I know you do
But it ain't no use to try
'Cause I'll be here-and I'm just like you
Goodbye, old man, goodbye
Won't be no God to comfort you
You taught me not to believe that lie
You don't need anybody
Nobody needs you
Don't cry, old man, don't cry
Everybody dies

Val H. | 22152 comments nc - you don't have a copy of "Bridge Over Troubled Water"? Where were you in 1970?

O the walls are closin' in I can feel it in my bones
Like water risin' up to my chin
Another long night to be alone
I could go out on the town
Talk too much and laugh too loud
If I'm already on my way down
I might as well just work the crowd

Can you hear me now

O the stories I could teil
Sometimes I really hit my stride
We make our own Heaven and our own Heil
Tryin' to get across to the other side
But everyday ends up the same
One step up, two steps back
Like some old silent movie frame
Zoom in close, then fade to black

Can you hear me now

How did the load get to be
so heavy I used to wear my trouble like a crown
A bad flood's poundin' on the levee
And l'm gonna need some help
To hold my ground

But I'm sinkin' like a stone
To where in solitude this life I'll spend
In the coldest place I've ever known
I'm here just waitin' until the end I send up my S.O.S.
A message in a bottle set out to sea It just reads "Soul in distress"
But nobody ever got back to me Can you hear me now

The ocean doesn't want me today
But I'll be back tomorrow to play
And the stranglers will take me
Down deep in their brine
The mischievous braingels
Down into the endless blue wine
I'll open my head and let out
All of my time
I'd love to go drowning
And to stay and to stay
But the ocean doesn't want me today
I'll go in up to here
It can't possibly hurt
All they will find is my beer
And my shirt
A rip tide is raging
And the life guard is away
But the ocean doesn't want me today
The ocean doesn't want me today

Jemma | 1234 comments "Into The Mystic"

We were born before the wind
Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sailed into the mystic
Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when the fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don't have to fear it

And I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And magnificently we will flow into the mystic

When that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when that fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don't have to fear it

And I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will flow into the mystic
Come on girl...

Too late to stop now...

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I can't tell you no one will ever die from a broken heart
But one thing I know since I've loved you, I know that I'm alive
So why do you keep holding back? Don't run away from what we have
I would never hurt you, darling ...

Can't stop the rain when you hear the thunder
Tonight's the night we're caught up in the flood
Don't you see we were meant for one another?
To live and breathe in the spirit of love

Naked, alone, what would I be if your love had never found me?
One thing that's real, Is only the trust we give to one another
So, darling, leave your fear behind, We've waited for the longest time
It's too late to stop now ...

Can't stop the rain when you hear the thunder
Tonight's the night we're caught up in the flood
Don't you see we were meant for one another?
To live and breathe in the spirit of love

Craig White | 6727 comments I went to the museum and stood on a chair. Some girl drew a crowd by what she didn't wear. She made everybody look up there. It was a naked girl fallin' down the stairs! Naked girl fallin' down the stairs. Naked girl fallin' down the stairs. All the way down she was up in the air. Naked girl fallin' down the stairs. It was a naked girl right in my face. High class culture all over the place. My watch stopped tickin'...shoes came unlaced. When I watched her trippin' down a staircase. It looked like a mistake at a steeplechase. A busted flywheel at stock car race. I fell in love at a terrible pace. When someone gave her a shove down a staircase

The years ahead are strung like pearls
Ragged boy when will your young life settle
You're the brightest point for a thousand miles
Lie down, prepare your wedding
Life's hard, forget about the bitterness of life
Spent my time praying for golden saviors
When times were hard the good things came
Goodbye world, god knows he never loved me
The years ahead hang so heavy now
Lie down, prepare your wedding
Life's hard, forget the bitterness
Lie down, prepare your wedding
Life's hard, forget the bitterness of life

Covering my belly
Some of us blush, somehow
Knees turning to jelly
Next, next

I was still just a kid
There were a hundred like me
I followed a naked body
A naked body follwed me
next, next

I was still just a kid
When my innocence was lost
In a mobile army whorehouse
Gift from the army, free of cost
Next, next

Me, I really would have liked
A little touch of tenderness
Maybe a word, a smile
An hour of happiness
But, next, next

From you, I get opinion
From you, I get the story

Listening to you, I get the music
Gazing at you, I get the heat
Following you, I climb the mountain
I get excitement at your feet

Right behind you, I see the millions
On you, I see the glory
From you, I get opinion
From you, I get the story

I hear a million voices, but only your voice comes through
I wait for your footsteps, I've waited before
I know if it's you if you knock at my door
I know you're around by the sound of my pounding heart!

I see a million faces, but what do I really see?
A million little traces keep bringing you back to me;
And try as I may to forget to care
What can I do if you're always there?
I see a million people, but all I can see is you!

You know you're in love
No matter what you try to do
You might as well resign yourself
To what you're going through
If you're a hard man or if you're a child
It still might get to you
Don't kid yourself you've seen it all before
A million mouths have said that too

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments You were hungry for the lights
You spent your nights with socialites
You're a million dollar baby with the million dollar blues
And you only gave your time to people you could use

Million dollar face with million dollar grace
You got off to a real bad start
Million dollar face in million dollar lace
You wound up with a two cent heart

You were mine for just a little while
But true to style and with a smile you said
"I have to leave you, baby, hold me one more time
'Cause I know where I should be and it's a long hard climb"

Million dollar face with million dollar grace
You got off to a real bad start
Million dollar face in million dollar lace
You wound up with a two cent heart

You got off to a real bad start
Million dollar face in million dollar lace

Black jack roulette
Losing high and low
She's cold as ice
Turn a young man old

Comedy and tragedy
Entertainment or death
Like sister morphine
Hooked on her game
Time to place your bets

If it wasn't for bad luck,
I'd have no luck at all

Keep your eye on the money
Keep your eye on the dealer's hand
Keep your eve on the money
Keep your eye on the lady's hand Queen of hearts
Or Ace of spades
I'm dancing on the blade
Freak show, goin' broke
The crowd screams on for more
Electric shock won't bring ya back
You've gone over the boards
Can't beat the clock the deck is stacked
The crowd looks on in horror

If it wasn't for bad luck,
I'd have no luck at all

Keep your eye on the money
Keep your eye on the dealer's hand
Keep your eve on the money
Keep your eye on the lady's hand

Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long-stem rose

Everybody knows that I need you
Everybody knows that I do, except you

I told the stars above, About the one I love
I told the morning sun, Yeah, I’m telling everyone
I told my mum and dad, They seemed to understand?
And I’ll get through to you, If it’s the last thing that I do

Everybody knows that I love you
Everybody knows that I need you
Everybody knows that I do, except you

Everybody knows that I live for you
Everybody knows that I adore you
Everybody knows that it’s true, except you

I told all of my friends, Again, and again and again
I drove them round the bend, So now you’re my only friend
I told the passers-by, I made a small boy cry
And I’ll get through to you, If it’s the last thing that I do

‘Cause everybody knows that I love you
Everybody knows that I need you
Everybody knows that I do, except you

I’m going crazy, baby, What do I have to do? ...
You know I love you, baby, Maybe you love me too? ...

Everybody knows that I live for you
Everybody knows that I adore you
Everybody knows that it’s true, except you, Except you, except you, except you ...
How come everybody knows, except you?

Ohhh, everybody knows that I love you
And everybody knows that I need you
Everybody knows that I do, except you

Val H. | 22152 comments Bill collectors gather 'round and rather
Haunt the cottage next door
Men the grocer and butcher sent
Men who call for the rent
But within a happy chappy
And his bride of only a year
Seem to be so cheerful, here's an earful
Of the chatter you hear

Ev'ry morning, ev'ry evening
Ain't we got fun?
Not much money, Oh, but honey
Ain't we got fun?
The rent's unpaid dear
We haven't a bus
But smiles were made dear
For people like us

In the winter in the summer
Don't we have fun
Times are bum and getting bummer
Still we have fun
There's nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get children
In the meantime, in between time
Ain't we got fun?

Just to make their trouble nearly double
Something happened last night
To their chimney a gray bird came
Mister Stork is his name
And…

Ev'ry morning, ev'ry evening
Don't we have fun
Twins and cares, dear, come in pairs, dear
Don't we have fun
We've only started
As momma and pop
Are we downhearted
I'll say that we're not

Landlords mad and getting madder
Ain't we got fun?
Times are so bad and getting badder
Still we have fun
There's nothing surer
The rich get rich and the poor get laid off
In the meantime, in between time
Ain't we got fun?

When the man who sold 'em carpets told 'em
He would take them away
They said, "Wonderful, here's our chance
Take them up and we'll dance"
And when burglars came and robbed them
Taking all their silver, they say
Hubby yelled, "We're famous, for they'll name us
In the papers today

Night or daytime, it's all playtime
Ain't we got fun?
Hot or cold days, any old days
Ain't we got fun
If wifey wishes
To go to a play
Don't wash the dishes
Just throw them away

Streetcar seats are awful narrow
Ain't we got fun?
They won't smash up our Pierce Arrow
We ain't got none
They've cut my wages
But my income tax will be so much smaller
When I'm laid off, I'll be paid off
Ain't we got fun?

Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night
It's only right
To think about the girl you love
And hold her tight
So happy together

If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me
And ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be
So very fine
So happy together

I can't see me loving nobody but you for all my life
When you're with me, baby, the skies will be blue for all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice
It had to be
The only one for me is you
And you for me
So happy together

I can't see me loving nobody but you for all my life
When you're with me, baby, the skies will be blue for all my life

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice
It had to be
The only one for me is you
And you for me
So happy together
...

Me and you and you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice
It had to be
The only one for me is you

So happy together
How is the weather?
So happy together
We're happy together
So happy together

Children play in the park, they don't know
I'm alone in the dark, even though
Time and time again, I see your face smiling inside

I'm so happy (ohhh, ohhh), That you love me (ohhh, ohhh)
Life is lovely (woah), When you're near me
Tell me you will stay? Make me smile

Living life is just a game so they say
All the games we used to play fade away
We may now enjoy the dreams we shared so long ago

Ohhh, my darling, Got to have you
Feel the magic, When I hold you
Cry sweet tears of joy, Touch the sky

Now I need you (ohhh, yeah), More than ever (ohhh, yeah)
No more crying (ohhh, ohhh), We're together
Tell me you will stay? Make me smile

It's been years, Since our luck ran out and left us here, Like broken mirrors
Ten million shards of glass and tears, But now we are
Awake enough to show what we hear, Like broken mirrors
Reflections of an unfamiliar face

We hide from the mirrors, They might show our scars, And hear us
Reflection that we want to be, The people we are (the people we are)
Fight your reflection, Smash what you see
And let's restart, 'Cause mirrors can't see our heart

It's been years, Since our luck ran out and left us here, Like broken mirrors
Ten million shards of glass and tears, But now we are
Awake enough to show what we hear, Like broken mirrors
Like broken mirrors, Like broken mirrors, Like broken mirrors, Like broken mirrors

The changing of sunlight to moonlight
Reflections of my life
Oh, how they fill my eyes

The greetings of people in trouble
Reflections of my life
Oh, how they fill my eyes

Oh, my sorrows
Sad tomorrows
Take me back to my own home

Oh, my crying (Oh, my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my own home

I'm changing, arranging
I'm changing
I'm changing everything
Everything around me

The world is
A bad place
A bad place
A terrible place to live
Oh, but I don't want to die

Oh, my sorrows
Sad tomorrows
Take me back to my own home

Oh, my crying (Oh, my crying)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my own home

Oh, my sorrows
Sad tomorrows
Take me back to my own home

Take me back to the black hills
The black hills of Dakota
To the beautiful Indian country
That I love

Lost my heart in the black hills
The black hills of Dakota
Where the pines are so high
That they kiss the sky above

And when I get that lonesome feelin'
And I'm miles away from home
I hear the voice of the mystic mountains
Callin' me back home

So take me back to the black hills
The black hills of Dakota
To the beautiful Indian country
That I love

And when I get that lonesome feelin'

nocheese | 6824 comments Her mama picked him up in south Minnesota
He promised her the world but they never got that far
For he was last seen in that '59 DeSota
When Sally was born in the black hills of Dakota

She was washed in the blood of the dying Sioux nation
Raised with a proud but a wandering heart
And she knew that her roots were in the old reservation
But she had stars in her eyes and greater expectations

No rings on her fingers no bells on her toes
With bugs on her headlights
And runs in her hose
Through the valley of the shadow of Roosevelt's nose
Adios, South Dakota, adios Sally Rose

They've got a national monument carved out of stone
On the side of a mountain where her forefathers roamed
Playing cowboys and Indians right under the nose
Of Theodore Roosevelt and the sweet Sally Rose

So she left Rapid City in the blue moonlight hour
With her eye on the highway and her foot on the floor
And turnin' the dial she was pulled by the power
Of the word coming out of that broadcasting tower

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments A long time ago came a man on a track,
Walking thirty miles with a pack on his back.
And put down his load where he thought it was the best:
Made a home in the wilderness.
Built a cabin and a winter store
And he ploughed up the ground by the cold lake shore.
The other travellers came walking down the track,
And they never went further and they never went back.
Then came the churches, then came the schools,
Then came the lawyers, then came the rules,
Then came the trains and the trucks with their load,
And the dirty old track was the Telegraph Road.

Then came the miners, then came the ore,
Then there was the hard times, then there was a war.
Telegraph sang a song about the world outside;
Telegraph Road got so deep and so wide
Like a rolling river...

And my radio says tonight it's gonna freeze:
People driving home from the factories.
You got six lanes of traffic: three lanes moving slow.

I used to like to go to work but they shut it down.
I got a right to go to work but there's no work here to be found.
Yes and they say we're gonna have to pay what's owed:
We're gonna have to reap from some seed that's been sowed.
And the birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles,
They can always fly away from this rain and this cold.
You can hear them singing out their telegraph code
All the way down the Telegraph Road.

Well I'd sooner forget but I remember those nights
When life was just a bet on a race between the lights.
You had your head on my shoulder, had your hand in my hair,
Now you act a little colder like you don't seem to care.
But believe in me, baby, and I'll take you away
From out of this darkness and into the day.
From these rivers of headlights, these rivers of rain,
From the anger that lives on the streets with these names,
'Cause I've run every red light on Memory Lane,
I've seen desperation explode into flames
And I don't wanna see it again...

From all of these signs saying "sorry but we're closed",
All the way down the Telegraph Road.

(Dire Straits)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments The bar was empty, I was sweeping up the floor
That's when she walked in, I said, "I'm sorry but we're closed"
And she said, "I know, But I'm afraid I left my purse?"
I said, "I put one back behind the bar, I bet it's probably yours"
And the next thing that I knew, There we were lost in conversation
Before I handed her purse, I said, "You'll only get this back on one condition"

And we danced ... Out there on that empty hardwood floor
The chairs up and the lights turned way down low
The music played, we held each other close ... And we danced

And from that moment, There was never any doubt
That I had found the one, That I had always dreamed about
And then one evenin', When she stopped by after work
I pulled a diamond ring out of the pocket of my shirt
And as her eyes filled up with tears, She said, "this is the last thing I expected"
Then she took me by the hand, Said, "I'll only marry you on one condition"

And we danced ... Out there on that empty hardwood floor
The chairs up and the lights turned way down low
The music played, we held each other close ... And we danced
Like no one else had ever danced before, I can't explain what happened on that floor?
But the music played, We held each other close ... And we danced
Yeah, we danced

And I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

Message keeps getting clearer
Radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I want to change my clothes, my hair, my face
Man I ain't getting nowhere
I'm just living in a dump like this
There's something happening somewhere
Baby I just know that there is

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

You sit around getting older
There's a joke here somewhere and it's on me
I'll shake this world off my shoulders
Come on baby this laugh's on me

Stay on the streets of this town
And they'll be carving you up alright
They say you gotta stay hungry
Hey baby I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action
I'm sick of sitting 'round here trying to write this book
I need a love reaction
Come on now baby gimme just one look

You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Hey baby

Once before we go
Let's pretend this song won't end
And we never have to go home
And we'll dance among the chandeliers

And nothing matters when we're dancing
In tat or tatters you're entrancing
Be we in Paris or in Lansing
Nothing matters when we're dancing

You've never been more beautiful
Your eyes like two full moons
Than here in this poor old dance hall
Among the dreadful tunes
The awful songs we don't even hear

And nothing matters when we're dancing

Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love ... Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love ... Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love ...

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love ... Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the end of love

nocheese | 6824 comments Now in Vienna there are ten pretty women
There's a shoulder where Death comes to cry
There's a lobby with nine hundred windows
There's a tree where the doves go to die
There's a piece that was torn from the morning
And it hangs in the Gallery of Frost
I, I-I-I
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take this waltz with the clamp on its jaws
Oh, I want you, I want you, I want you
On a chair with a dead magazine
In the cave at the tip of the lilly
In some hallway where love's never been
On a bed where the moon has been sweating
In a cry filled with footsteps and sand
I, I-I-I
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take its broken waist in your hand
This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz
With its very own breath of brandy and Death
Dragging its tail in the sea
There's a concert hall in Vienna
Where your mouth had a thousand reviews
There's a bar where the boys have stopped talking
They've been sentenced to death by the blues
Ah, but who is it climbs to your picture
With a garland of freshly cut tears?
I, I-I-I
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take this waltz, it's been dying for years
There's an attic where children are playing
Where I've got to lie down with you soon
In a dream of Hungarian lanterns
In the mist of some sweet afternoon
And I'll see what you've chained to your sorrow
All your sheep and your lillies of snow
I, I-I-I
Take this waltz, take this waltz
With its "I'll never forget you, you know!"
This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz
With its very own breath of brandy and Death
Dragging its tail in the sea
And I'll dance with you in Vienna
I'll be wearing a river's disguise
The hyacinth wild on my shoulder
My mouth on the dew of your thighs
And I'll bury my soul in a scrapbook
With the photographs there, and the moss
And I'll yield to the flood of your beauty
My cheap violin and my cross
And you'll carry me down on your dancing
To the pools that you lift on your wrist
Oh my love, oh my love
Take this waltz, take this waltz
It's yours now, it's all that there is

(Because one Leonard Cohen song is never enough)

After the waltz is over, After the music ends
After I held you so close in my arms, We'll be much more than friends
After the waltz is over, All conversation dies
What could our lips say? That we haven't said with our eyes

I could waltz through life with you ...
We'll make wedding bells chime, In three-quarter time ...

I don't care if the party's ending? Or if the clock's striking one?
I never dreamed when we danced at the start ...
One little waltz could go straight to my heart ...
After the waltz is over, We'll find that love has begun

I don't care if the party's ending? Or if the clock's striking one?
I never dreamed when we danced at the start ...
One little waltz could go straight to my heart ...

So give me a little house and ...
Let me have you for my spouse and ...
Once we cadenza by Strauss then ...
Let me go waltzing through life

Val H. | 22152 comments Away with the music of Broadway!
Be off with your Irving Berlin
Oh, I'd give no quarter
To Kern or Cole Porter
And Gershwin keeps pounding on tin
How can one be civil
When hearing such drivel?
It's all just for nightclubbing souses
Oh, give me the free and easy
Waltz that is Viennese-y
And
Go tell the band
If they want a hand
The waltz must be Strauss'
Ja, ja, ja
Give me oom-pah-pah

(Chorus)
When I want a melody
Lilting through the house
Then I want a melody
By Strauss
It laughs! It sings! The world is in rhyme
Swinging in three-quarter time
Let the Danube flow along
And Die Fledermaus
Keep the wine and give me song
By Strauss
By jo, by jing!
By Strauss is the thing!
So I say to ha-cha-cha
Heraus!
Just give me an oom-pah-pah
By Strauss!

When they hear ... oom-pah-pah!!!

But never when he thought anybody could see?
Secretly he'd buy it, And drink it on the quiet
And dream he was an Earl, Wiv a girl on each knee! ...

Could it be? ... oom-pah-pah!?

Pretty little Sally, Goes walking down the alley
Displays her pretty ankles to all of the men
They could see her garters, But not for free-and-gratis
An inch or two and then she knows, When to say when! ...

She let a feller feed 'er, then lead 'er along
What's the good o' cryin'? She's made a bed to lie in
