nocheese | 6824 comments I'm writing a song all about you
A true song as real as my tears
But you've no need to fear it
'Cause no one will hear it
Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year
I'll tell all about how you cheated
I'd like for the whole world to hear
I'd like to get even
With you 'cause you're leavin'
But sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year
It's a good thing that I'm not a star
You don't know how lucky you are
Though my record may say it
No one will play it
Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year
It's a good thing that I'm not a star
You don't know how lucky you are
Though my record may say it
No one will play it
Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I pushed him away and tearfully said, "I'm just not that kind of girl
You might think I'm square, 'cause you've been around and you're wise in the ways of the world
I know that making is taking for granted, It's all easy come, easy go"
He pulled me close, whispered, "now, darlin', there's something I want you to know" ...

"I still believe in waltzes, and girls with old fashioned ways
I still believe in love songs, and the good in the good old days
I've always liked happy endings, somebody's dream coming true
I still believe in waltzes ... and dancing the last one with you"

He slipped into bed, I turned over and said "I'm worried you're working so late?
Is it just your job that keeps you away? Lord, I know the temptations are great
I'm just a wife, I'm just a momma, It's not too exciting, I know"
He pulled me close and whispered those same words, He told me that night long ago ...

"I still believe in waltzes, and girls with old fashioned ways
I still believe in love songs, and the good in the good old days
I've always liked happy endings, somebody's dream coming true
I still believe in waltzes ... and I'll be dancing the last one with you"

We still believe in waltzes ...

Craig White | 6727 comments When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murrays green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Matilda all over
Then in nineteen fifteen my country said Son
It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli

How well I remember that terrible day
How the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He chased us with bullets, he rained us with shells
And in five minutes flat he'd blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia
But the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
We buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then we started all over again

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Ohhh play me a blue song, And fade down the light
I'm sad as a proud man can be sad tonight
Just let me dream on, Ohhh just let me sway
While the sweet violins, And the saxophones play
And, Miss, you don't know me, But can't we pretend?
That we care for each other, Till the band reach the end?

One step for aching, and two steps for breaking
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love
One step for sighing and two steps for crying
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love

Now they say love's for gamblers, Ohhh the pendulum swings
I bet hard on love and I lost everything
So don't send me home now, Put a shot in my arm
And we'll drink out old memories, And we'll drink in the dawn
And, Mr Bandleader, won't you play one more time?
For I've good folding money in this pocket of mine

Ohhh, one step for aching, two steps for breaking
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love
One step for sighing, and two steps for crying
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love

Ohhh, Miss, you don't know me, But can't we pretend?
That we care for each other, Till the band reach the end?

Ohhh, one step for aching, two steps for breaking
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love
One step for sighing, two steps for crying
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love ...
Waltzing's for dreamers and losers in love

Lez | 7490 comments I can't tell a waltz from a tango
I never know what my feet are gonna do
Oh I can't tell a waltz from a tango
Darling when I dance with you
The music sounds inviting dear
And you are so exciting dear
But every time you hold me near
I seem to lose my sense of rhythm when your cheek is next to mine I can't tell a waltz from a tango
I never know what my feet are gonna do
Oh I can't tell a waltz from a tango
Darling when I dance with you
If this is love it's new to me
Oh won't you give some clue to me
I don't know what you do to me
I seem to lose my sense of rhythm when your cheek is next to mine I can't tell a waltz from a tango
I never know what my feet are gonna do
No, I can't tell a waltz from a tango
Darling when I dance with you
I know the dance steps old and new
I've even won a prize or two
But when I steal a kiss from you
I seem to lose my sense of rhythm when your cheek is next to mine I can't tell a waltz from a tango
I never know what my feet are gonna do
Oh I can't tell a waltz from a tango
Darling when I dance with you
Darling when I dance with you

nocheese | 6824 comments Oh two left feet, two left feet
How can you dance with two left feet
Two left feet, two left feet
How can you dance with two left feet

I love you honey, you're so sweet
Just get rid of them two left feet
You got no style, you got no beat
All you've got is them two left feet

Well, your hair is pretty and your face is a treat
But I don't like your two left feet
I'm not one to admit defeat
But I can't win with your two left feet

I love you honey, you're so sweet
But I can't stand them two left feet
You got no style, you got no beat
All you've got is them two left feet

Well, they're pulling people in off the street
They all want to look at your two left feet
Dance with Jimmy, dance with Pete,
Don't dance with me with them two left feet

I love you honey, you're so sweet
Just get rid of them two left feet
You got no style, you got no beat
All you've got is them two left feet

I dance with you and I land on my seat
That's all cos you dance with two left feet
You could make my life complete
Just get rid of them two left feet

I love you honey, you're so sweet
Just get rid of them two left feet
You got no style, you got no beat
All you've got is them two left feet

(Because just one Richard Thompson song is never enough)

Val H. | 22151 comments Who's that walkin' round here? Mercy
Sounds like baby patter, baby elephant patter, that's what I call it
Say up in Harlem at a table for two
There were four of us, me, your big feet and you
From your ankles up, I'd say you sure look sweet
From there down there's just too much feet

Yes, your feet's too big
Don't want ya 'cause ya feet's too big
Can't use ya 'cause ya feet's too big
I really hate ya 'cause ya feet's too big

Where did ya get 'em?
Your girl she likes you, she thinks you're nice
Got what it takes to be in paradise
She says she likes your face
She likes your rig
Man oh man and things are too big

Oh your feet's too big
Don't wantcha 'cause ya feet's too big
Mad at you 'cause your feet's too big
I hate you 'cause your feet's too big

My goodness, guns, they're gunboats, shiff shiff shiff
Oh your peddelic extremities are colossal
To me you look just like a fossil
You got me walkin', talkin' and squarkin'
'Cause your feet's too big, yeah

Come on and walk that thing
Oh I've never heard of such walkin', Mercy
Your, your peddelic extremities really are obnoxious
One never knows do one?

Craig White | 6727 comments At your feet would fall many kings
At your feet will fall many things
At your hands I'd kiss every one of your rings
And this song in silence sings... my love
At your feet I'd kiss every one of your cool toes
My dumb heart is not as smart as what a fool knows
At your kiss I'd curse everyone
For my bad luck I wish but to whisper
"I love you" but I will not not f**k up your life

Martin O' | 2196 comments Out of the brightest tree the moon became the morning sun
And there again reflected on the dreams of everyone
Out of the starlight night the telling of all our lives
And racing faster than the Northwestern world
Starpoint to signal our endlessness
Starpoint to signal this evermore
Starpoint to compass, we look to the north
To the north, to the north
To return to the centre, to return to the centre
To return to the centre
Angkor Wat

(There follows a Cambodian poem narrated by Pauline Cheng at the end of the song. The lyrics are a simple but poignant plea yet the voice resonates with such a deep and heartfelt honesty I was truly moved. Even though I could not understand the language the meaning and content were crystal clear. I couldn't find the original translation so apologise for this english version as I don't think they really do the words justice.)

I am a child of the universe
I deserve total recognition of this in the light of God
Being a child of the universe
I want to live in a world without war
I want to live in a world without starvation
I want to live in a world without pestilence
I want to live in a world of love, peace and harmony
Because I am a child of the universe

Val H. | 22151 comments Love for anyone who needs her
Innocence is all that feeds her
Rolling through the mist
Floating in a sea of madness
Reaching for the heights of gladness
Or did she exist?

Swirling ions from the stars
Streaming down onto the earth
From a galaxy like ours
Manifested in her birth
Child of the Universe
Giving freely of herself
Purity of truth rehearse
Leaving man her cosmic well

Love for anyone who needs her
Innocence is all that feeds her
Rolling through the mist
Floating in a sea of madness
Reaching for the heights of gladness
Or did she exist?

Vision of an untouched grace
Walking gaily through the sun
No one else could take her place
Nor the work that she'd begun

Love for anyone who needs her
Innocence is all that feeds her
Rolling through the mist
Knowing what is understanding
Patience that is undemanding
Or did she exist?
Or did she exist?
Or did she exist?

Craig White | 6727 comments Madness, madness, they call it madness
Madness, madness, they call it madness
It's plain to see
That is what they mean to me
Madness, madness, they call it gladness, ha-ha

Madness, madness, they call it madness
Madness, madness, they call it madness
I'm about to explain
A-That someone is losing their brain
Hey, madness, madness, I call it gladness, yee-ha-ha-ha

Propaganda ministers
Propaganda ministers
I've a-got a heavy due
I'm gonna walk all over you
'Cause

Madness, madness, they call it madness
Well if this is madness
Then I know I'm filled with gladness
It's gonna be rougher
It's gonna be tougher, pa-da-da, pa-da-da
But I won't be the one who's gonna suffer
Oh no, I won't be the one who's gonna suffer
You are gonna be the one, a-you...

Val H. | 22151 comments I know how much you admire Van tech, so this one's for you:

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

Oh the morning sun in all its glory
Greets the day with hope and comfort too
And you fill my life with laughter
You can make it better
Ease my troubles that's what you do

There's a love that's divine
And it's yours and it's mine
Like the sun
At the end of the day
We should give thanks and pray to the One

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

There's a love that's divine
And it's yours and it's mine
And it shines like the sun
At the end of the day we will give thanks and pray to the One

Have I told you lately that I love you
Have I told you there's no one above you
Fill my heart with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles, that's what you do

Take away my sadness
Fill my life with gladness
Ease my troubles that's what you do
Fill my life with gladness
Take away my sadness
Ease my troubles that's what you do

It always amazes me that this song (lovely though it is) gets played at weddings when it obviously an ode to Van's God.

Craig White | 6727 comments yeah, cheers val! :)

I got my red dress on tonight
Dancin' in the dark in the pale moonlight
Done my hair up real big, beauty queen style
High heels off, I'm feelin' alive
Oh my God, I feel it in the air
Telephone wires above
Are sizzlin' like a snare
Honey I'm on fire, I feel it everywhere
Nothin' scares me anymore
Kiss me hard before you go
Summertime sadness
I just wanted you to know
That baby, you the best
I got that summertime, summertime sadness
Su-su-summertime, summertime sadness
Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Saturday night I was down town
Working for the F.B.I.
Sitting in a nest of bad men
Whiskey bottles piling high
Boot legging boozer on the west side
Full of people who are doing wrong
Just about to call up the D.A. man
When I heard this woman singing a song.

A pair of forty fives made me open my eyes
My temperature started to rise
She was a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a five nine
Beautiful
Tall
With just one look I was a bad mess
Cause that long cool woman had it all.

Saw her heading to the table
Well a tall walking big black cat
When Charlie said "I hope that you're able
Boy"
Well
I'm telling you she knows where it's at
Well suddenly we heard a siren
And every body started to run
A jumping out of doors and tables
Well I heard somebody shooting a gun.

Well the D.A. was pumping my left hand
And a she a holding my right
And I told her don't get scared
Cause you're gonna be spared
I gotta be forgiven
If I want to spend my living with
A long cool woman in a black dress
Just a five nine
Beautiful
Tall
With just one look I was a bad mess
'Cause that long cool woman had it all
Had it all
Had it all
Had it all

Martin O' | 2196 comments Another one for our tech!

Well , if you're ever in Los Angeles
And you've got some time to spare
Take a stroll up Sunset Boulevard
You'll find the whisky there
Gliding round the tables
With wonderous natural ease
Serving two star brandy
Is the body you have to see
Belonging to.....
Long legged Linda
She sure was worth the flight
Long legged Linda
Is playing the whisky tonight

message 669: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments you're spoiling me now!

I was not looking for Linda, but Linda found me
Hiding away on the slow train home
'Is this one for Paisley? Oh you've got to help me'
(She used to work there a long time ago)
She'd spent 35 pounds on one pack of ciggies
Running an errand for him indoors
Then she kept running straight down to Leeds Central
Took Intercity and left her remorse
I'm looking out for Linda

Never stop looking, never stop looking for Linda
Never stop looking, never stop looking for Linda

I was looking at Linda, and Linda was pleased
She'd been fighting firewater all that day
She said 'me and drinking means only one thing'
Whispered that she was too polite to say
The train door was jammed - but the time wasn't right
Some guy was holding her back from the window
I said 'a fine man'- she said 'so arrogant!'
'I will decide when I go or I don't go'
I'm looking out for Linda in the rain
(hue and cry)

message 670: by Gordon (last edited May 07, 2018 01:52PM) (new)

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments I was standing in the station being pounded by the rain
So I chose the last compartment of a stationary train.
I felt someone get in behind me but I never caught their eye
But I thought I heard a woman's voice whispering "Goodbye".

So I lay down in the darkness with the beer and coffee stains
And I stared out at the thunder through the broken window panes,
And although the storm was booming like an engine in the sky
I'm sure I heard a woman's voice cry...

"Don't wanna be under your thumb forever.
Don't wanna be under your thumb forever.
Don't wanna be under your thumb, it's over and done:
I'll never be under your thumb forever again."

So I rolled myself a cigarette and smoked it on my own,
But it didn't stop the whispers or the smell of her cologne.
Then she rose up out of nowhere and her hair was full of steam
And she stuck her head out the window and screamed. And screamed. She screamed...

"Don't wanna be under your thumb forever.
Don't wanna be under your thumb forever.
Don't wanna be under your thumb, it's over and done:
I'll never be under your thumb forever again."

So I picked up an old newspaper to read. And I noticed something very strange indeed.
So I looked a little closer and it chilled me to the bone, "Woman throws herself from speeding train, identity unknown."
But I recognised the picture of the woman who was dead
And underneath the picture it said...

"Don't wanna be under your thumb forever.
Don't wanna be under your thumb forever.
Don't wanna be under your thumb, it's over and done:
I'll never be under your thumb forever again."

I'm the ghost of the girl in the well
Killed by a man who owned my family
It's been many years since I fell
Still no one has found me

I was fourteen years old when I died
The earth had just turned and the field were alive
So alive

Mister called out to me and I ran
I didn't want to be under him
Anymore

I'm the ghost of the girl in the well
I was trying to hide when my fingers slipped
In the darkness I cried and I cried
All my tears
Taken by the water

I'm the ghost of the girl in the well
Killed by a man who owned my family

Craig White | 6727 comments agreed, obviously! i could never get my head around the fact that jackie leven's doll by doll put a version of it on their final album - and released it as a single! a very rare black mark!

I touched you once too often
Now I don't know who I am
My fingerprints were missing
When I wiped away the jam
Yes I called my fingerprints all night
But they don't seem to care
The last time that I saw them
They were leafing through your hair

Fingerprints, fingerprints
Where are you now my fingerprints?

Yeah I thought I'd leave this morning
So I emptied out your drawer
A hundred thousand fingerprints
They floated to the floor

You know you hardly stopped to pick them up
You don't care what you lose
Ah you don't even seem to know
Whose fingerprints are whose

Fingerprints, fingerprints
Where are you now my fingerprints?

And now you want to marry me
You want to take me down the aisle
You want to throw confetti fingerprints
You know that's not my style

O sure I'd like to marry you
But I can't face the dawn
With any girl who knew me
When my fingerprints were on

Fingerprints, fingerprints
Where are you now my fingerprints?

Lives a former talk-show host
Everybody knows his name

He says there's no doubt about it
It was the myth of fingerprints
I've seen them all and man
They're all the same

Well, the sun gets weary
And the sun goes down
Ever since the watermelon
And the lights come up

On the black pit town
Somebody says what's a better thing to do
Well, it's not just me
And it's not just you

This is all around the world

Out in the Indian Ocean somewhere
There's a former army post
Abandoned now just like the war
And there's no doubt about it
It was the myth of fingerprints
That's what that old army post was for

Well, the sun gets bloody
And the sun goes down
Ever since the watermelon
And the lights come up

On the black pit town
Somebody says what's a better thing to do
Well, it's not just me

Martin O' | 2196 comments Hear how the bargain was made for the West
With her shivering children in zero degrees
Blankets for your pand so the treaties attest
Oh well, blankets for land is a bargain indeed
And the blankets were those Uncle Sam had collected
From smallpox disease ridden soldiers that day
And the tribes were wiped out,
And the history books censored
A hundred years of your statesmen have felt
It's better this way
And yet a few of the conquered have somehow survived
Their blood runs the redder though genes have paled
From the Grand Canyon's centre to craven sad hills
The wounded, the losers, the robbed sing their tale
From Los Angeles County to upstate New York
The white nation fattens while others grow lean
Oh, the tricked and evicted they know what I mean
My country, 'tis of thy people you're dying

Somebody out there has blown a fuse
We're passing the scene a man is dead
A thirty eight blew away his head
A jolt of lightning set's me back a pace
Feel like a visitor from outer space
Please excuse me if I don't quite understand
I'm just a stranger in electric land
Willing to have a good time
You live for the moment the moment is fine
You're up in your room the lights are low

It's a street in a strange world
Maybe it's the Third World
Maybe it's his first time around
He doesn't speak the language
He holds no currency
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound
The sound
Cattle in the marketplace
Scatterlings and orphanages
He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says Amen! and Hallelujah!

Amazing he's a whole new form of life
Blue eyes blazing and he's going to be my wife

Butterflies turn into people when my boy walks down the street
Maybe he should be illegal he just makes life too complete? ...

See me a big woman
Big woman caught in a trance
Dancing on the table top
Covered up with the Easter feast
You're dancing for the fishermen
From the very large right to the least
Dancing for the slow release
First the boy and then the beast
Then the beast
Burning
Burning with the kiss of life
Burning
Burning with the kiss of life
See me a big woman
Big woman so full of life
See me a big woman
Big woman gonna be my wife
Watching for the distant eyes
They change your face, they come inside
Watch the spirits laugh and cry
Watch them find a place to hide
Watch the spirits talk in tongues
Watch them take you for a ride
Down at the ocean lies a body in the sand
Big woman sits beside, head in hand
With heat from her skin and fire from het breath
She blows hard, she slows deep in the mouth of death
Burning
Burning with the kiss of life
Burning
Burning with the kiss of life

Martin O' | 2196 comments The sharp crowded moments
And disinterested blur
Slip far back in memory
As thought rises higher
Painting scenes of forests
Welded white with snow
Breath that hung in stillness
The quietness of the road
You were warm as winter's snowflake
Settled on your hair
That first touch was intimate
And drove away all fear
Somehow I saw the moon that night
It peeked through broken clouds
It seemed quite odd to see the moon
But I understand it now
It had come to bless love's first kiss
To keep romance alive
And give us both sweet memories
And help our thoughts to rise
(Michael Nesmith)

nocheese | 6824 comments Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny

It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

Martin O' | 2196 comments On their wings they are returning
On their wings they fly
Shadows fade
The sun is burning high
Everyday the light stays longer
Everyday you sigh
Shadows fade
You start to say goodbye
If you're thinking of leaving
You're leaving at a very bad time
If you're thinking of leaving
You're leaving at a very bad time
Grey on grey, the sky is changing
Grey on grey sunrise
Morning breaks
The crimson waits behind
Only love can end the yearning
Only love knows why
Only love, the colour of your eyes
If you're thinking of leaving
You're leaving at a very bad time
If you're thinking of leaving
You're leaving at a very bad time
On their wings they are returning
On their wings they fly
Winter fades
The sun is burning high

Val H. | 22151 comments I don’t know who I thought I was
I guess I tried to love you
Because I thought I could afford
To take the risk and take a chance

I do not know who I thought I was fooling
Must have felt invincible in your arms
Like I could take the whole world on

But it’s easier for me
to believe that you are lying to me
When you say you love me
And when you say you need me

Yes it’s easier for me to walk away
And get on with my life
If I believe that you’re deceiving me
If I believe that you’d be leaving me one day
Leaving me one day
Leaving me one day

I’d wish that I could make you see
Clearly that it’s not to me
Cause you will not be swayed by me
You made it clear you must be free

I would have sacrificed for you
I would have been so loyal and so true
I guess this precious can't
be offered up by fools

But it’s easier for me
to believe that you are lying to me
When you say you love me
And when you say you need me

Yes it’s easier for me to walk away
And get on with my life
If I believe that you’re deceiving me
If I believe that you’d be leaving me one day
Leaving me one day
Leaving me one day

What’s done is done
I cannot change the way I feel
And what’s more I am certain
That I don’t regret a single thing

But sometimes I really miss your sweet, sweet love
I’d wish that I’d wake up and
This would all be just a dream

Yes it’s easier for me
to believe that you are lying to me
When you say you love me
And when you say you need me

Yes it’s easier for me to walk away
And get on with my life
I believe that you’re deceiving me
I believe that you’d be leaving me one day
Leaving me one day
Leaving me one day

Craig White | 6727 comments Someone stopped the clock when we should have started early
If we miss the morning meeting our lives will be in danger
Someone's trying to stop us, there is someone in our party
It is someone with a grudge and they won't let us reach the border
Our lives are in his hands, we pay with Krugerrands
The currency of pain to help us leaving
While back in our homeland the ones who make a stand
Are taken from their homes and no one hears of them again
I felt I had to come here, I thought things would be better
The situation's changed but I find I'm still resented
Someone wants my job it is someone in this building
Someone's spreading rumors and I don't feel I can stay here
I think I'm going north and now's the time to leave
The people there they say are good to strangers
And if I do my best and try to settle in
I'm sure I can be just like someone's neighbor
I'm sure I can be just like someone's neighbor

Martin O' | 2196 comments Let them in, Peter
They are very tired
Give them couches where the angels sleep
And light those fires
Let them wake whole again
To brand new dawns fired by the sun
Not wartime's bloody guns
May their peace be deep
Remember where the broken bodies lie
God knows how young they were
To have to die
God knows how young they were
To have to die
So give them things they like
Let them make some noise
Give dance hall bands not golden harps
To these our boys

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I hope all my days, Will be lit by your face
I hope all the years, Will hold tight our promises

I don't wanna be old and sleep alone
An empty house is not a home
I don't wanna be old and feel afraid

I don't wanna be old and sleep alone
An empty house is not a home
I don't wanna be old and feel afraid

And if I need anything at all? ...

I need a place, That's hidden in the deep
Where lonely angels sing you to your sleep
Though all the world is broken

I need a place, Where I can make my bed
A lover's lap where I can lay my head
'Cos now the room is spinning ... The day's beginning

nocheese | 6824 comments And may you never lay your head down
Without a hand to hold
May you never make your bed out in the cold

You’re just like a great strong brother of mine
You know that I love you true
And you never talk dirty behind my back
And I know that there’s those that do

Oh please won’t you, please won’t you
Bear it in mind
Love is a lesson to learn in our time
Now please won’t you, please won’t you
Bear it in mind for me

And may you never lay your head down
Without a hand to hold
May you never make your bed out in the cold

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments We will meet again, Beneath the stars
I think of you each day
I feel you close, Wherever you are
I know you'll find your way

Let the christmas lights, Warm your heart tonight
Let them guide you home from the cold
May your hope conquer fear, At this time of the year
May you never be alone

There's a place I go, A horizon of hope
Where all our dreams are saved
I can feel you close, Wherever you are
'Till you're in my arms again

Let the christmas lights, Warm your heart tonight
Let them guide you home from the cold
May your hope conquer fear, At this time of the year
May you never be alone

Let the christmas lights, Warm your heart tonight
Let them guide you home from the cold
May your hope conquer fear, At this time of the year
May you never be alone

May your hope conquer fear, At this time of the year
May you never be alone

Craig White | 6727 comments I wish you lonely
If only for one day
So that you might see routine for me
Since the day I was born, born
Think of yourself only
Of everything you demand
Or you want or you need
And to hell
To hell with everybody else, everybody else
Turn the key slowly
Remember how I can't sleep
Or if ever I do, an earthquake
An earthquake couldn't agitate, couldn't agitate
Tombs are full of fools who gave their life upon command
Of monarchy, oligarch, head of state, potentate
And now never coming back, never coming back
Tombs are full of fools who gave their life upon command
Of Romance gone wrong, the same old glue
And never coming true, never coming true
Tombs are full of fools who gave their life upon command of
Heroin, heroin, heroin, heroin, heroin
And never coming back, never coming back
I wish you lonely
Like the last tracked humpback whale
Chased by gunships from Bergen
But never giving in, never giving in

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I wish you bluebirds in the Spring, To give your heart a song to sing
And then a kiss, But more than this? ... I wish you love
And, in July, a lemonade, To cool you in some leafy glade
I wish you health, And more than wealth? ... I wish you love

My breaking heart and I agree, That you and I could never be
So with my best, my very best ... I set you free

I wish you shelter from the storm, A cozy fire to keep you warm
But, most of all, When snowflakes fall ... I wish you love
I wish you shelter from the storm, A cozy fire to keep you warm
But, most of all, When snowflakes fall ... I wish you love

Val H. | 22151 comments May the wind be at your back
And the world sit at your feet
May you waltz across Wyoming
With a rose clutched in your teeth
May the answers to your questions
Fall like raindrops right on queue
May you set up shop in heaven
'Fore the devil knows you're due

Ooh, here's to love
Here's to life
All the fair and tender ladies
And the plain dirt farmer's wife
Yeah, here's to you
Here's to me
Some ol' mad dog mountain flyboy
And the kid from Tennessee

May your nights be filled with laughter
And your days with honest work
May you wake up smelling roses
When you're face down in the dirt
If you had the sense to come in
When the storm clouds start to grow
You wouldn't be my right hand
And the best friend that I know

Ooh, here's to life,
Here's to love
When your heart beats like a lion
And your shoes fit like a glove
Yeah, here's to you
Here's to me
Some ol' mad dog mountain flyboy
And the kid from Tennessee

May you always stay in touch with the things
That keep you young
When you're staring at injustice
May you never bite your tongue
May the bear tracks in your future
Find you downwind in a glade
Where the grass as green as absinthe
Comes in forty different shades

Ooh, here's to love
Here's to life
All the fair and tender ladies
And the old fishmonger's wife
Yeah, here's to you
Here's to me
Some ol' mad dog mountain flyboy and the kid from Tennessee

Yeah, set 'em up, drinks for free
It's the mad dog mountain flyboy
And the kid from Tennessee

(Rodney Crowell's song for Guy Clark)

Now there are folks who like to brag about where they came from
But when they start that stuff I let 'em be
But it makes me feel like I wanna brag some
To know that I come from the state of Tennessee
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it up in Nashville everyday
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it in that old Hillbilly way
Mister Red Foley came from Kentucky
Now, Ernest Tubb down in Texas, don't you see
But if all you folks out there can remember
Mister Eddy Arnold came from Tennessee
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it up in Nashville everyday
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
They make bombs they say, that can blow up our world, dear
Well a country boy like me, I will agree
But if all you folks out there can remember
They made the first atomic bomb in Tennessee
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it up in Nashville everyday
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it in that old hillbilly way
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it up in Nashville everyday

Val H. | 22151 comments Nothing wrong with a bit of red-neck patriotism; sorry, meant not much right with a bit of red-neck patriotism.

Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Alamogordo, Bikini...

Talking blues:
I'm gonna preach you-all a sermon 'bout Old Man Atom, that's me
I don't mean the Adam in the Bible datum
I don't mean the Adam that Mother Eve elated
I mean that thing that science liberated
The thing that Einstein says he's scared of
And when Einstein's scared, brother, you'd better be scared

If you're scared of the atom here's what’s you gotta do
You gotta gather all the people in the world with you
‘Cause if you don't get together and do it
Well, first thing you know I'm gonna blow this world plum two

Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Alamogordo, Bikini

Now life used to be such a simple joy
My cyclotron was just a super toy
And folks got born, they'd work and marry
And "atom" was a word in the dictionary
And then it happened!
The science boys, from every clime
They all pitched in with overtime
And before they knew it, the thing was done
And they'd hitched up the power of the gol-dern sun
And put a harness on Old Sol
Splittin' atoms, while the diplomats was splittin' hairs

Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Alamogordo, Bikini...

But the atom's here, in spite of hysteria
Flourishes in Utah, as well as Siberia
And whether you're a black, white, red or brown
The question is this, when you boil it down:
To be or not to be! That's the question!

The answer to it all ain't military datum
Like who gets there firstest with the mostest atoms,"
No, the people of the world must decide their fate
They gotta get together or disintegrate
I hold this truth to be self-evident
That all men may be cremated equal!

Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Alamogordo, Bikini...

Yes, it's up to the people, ‘cause the atoms don't care
You can't fence me in, I'm just like air
I don't give a hoot about any politics
Or who got what into whichever fix
All I want to do is sit around and have my nucleus bombarded by neutrons

Now the moral is this, just as plain as day
That Old Man Atom is here to stay
I'm gonna stick around, and that's for true
But, ah, my dearly beloved, are you?

(The Sons of the Pioneers)

For that great atomic power?
Will you rise and meet your savior in the air?
Will you shout or will you cry
When the fire rains from on high?
Are you ready for that great atomic power?

Do you fear this man's invention
That they call atomic power
Are we all in great confusion
Do we know the time or hour

When a terrible explosion
May rain down upon our land
Leaving horrible destruction
Blotting out the works of man

Are you, are you ready
For that great atomic power?
Will you rise and meet your savior in the air?
Will you shout or will you cry
When the fire rains from on high?
Are you ready for that great atomic power?

There is one way to escape it
Be prepared to meet the lord
Give your heart and soul to Jesus
He will be your shielding sword

Communicate like distant stars
Splintered voices down the phone
The sunlit dust, the smell of roses drifts, oh no

Hiroshima mon amour
Riding inter-city trains
Dressed in European grey
Riding out to echo beach
A million memories in the trees and sands, oh no
How can I ever let them go?
