Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Robin Hood, Robin Hood here we are again...

Living each day outside the law,
Trying not to do what we did before.
Country slang with the Bow Bell voice,
So close to the city we ain't got much choice.

Council estates or tower blocks,
Wherever you live you get the knocks.
But the people round here they are so nice:
"Stop being naughty, take our advice!"

Hersham boys, Hersham boys -
Lace-up boots and corduroys.
Hersham boys, Hersham boys -
They call us the Cockney cowboys.

It's down to the hop for the local girls:
The're not beauty queens but they're our pearls.
So when you go to bed tonight
Don't worry about us, we're alright.

Hersham boys, Hersham boys -
Lace-up boots and corduroys.
Hersham boys, Hersham boys -
They call us the Cockney cowboys.

Dick-eye Chavvy,
It's the Mudtown Slosher!
That's right guv'nor: Jack the Lad.
Know what I mean, eh?
Know what I mean?

Hersham boys, Hersham boys -
Lace-up boots and corduroys.
Hersham boys, Hersham boys -
They call us the Cockney cowboys.

Come on grandad!
You just hold on now boy!

Hersham boys, Hersham boys -
Lace-up boots and corduroys.
Hersham boys, Hersham boys -
They call us the Cockney cowboys.

Val H. | 22149 comments You get a little drunk, get a little loud
Stupid me and my rebel mouth
Ain't all wrong but I ain't all right
Don't see no world in black or white

Grandma cried when I pierced my nose
Never liked doing what I was told
Don't judge me and I won't judge you
'Cause I ain't walking in your shoes

'Cause I ain't one to knock religion
Though it's always knocking me
Always running with the wrong crowd
Right where I wanna be
I'm not good at being careful
I just say what's on my mind
Like my idea of heaven
Is to burn one with John Prine

Maybe he would sit a while
And render me an illegal smile
And I bet that he would understand
Just how I feel and who I am

'Cause I ain't one to knock religion
Though it's always knocking me
Always running with the wrong crowd
Right where I wanna be
I'm not good at being careful
I just say what's on my mind
Like my idea of heaven
Is to burn one with John Prine

I play my life like truth or dare
I'm not all here but I'm all there
And all the colors people paint me
Don't they know they'll never change me, yeah?

'Cause I ain't one to knock religion
Though it's always knocking me
Always running with the wrong crowd
Right where I wanna be
I'm not good at being careful
I just say what's on my mind
Like my idea of heaven
Is to burn one with John Prine
Like my idea of heaven
Is to burn one with John Prine

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments You turned all my dreams into nightmares, But you won’t turn my water to wine
Now you don’t handle me like that Rosary, I’ve seen you carressing now and again
Is there one law for you and another for me? Is it written in some ancient text?
Are the wings of retreat well attached to your feet?
Do you think of me often when you’re with your friend?
Do you cringe a bit now and again?

Are you closer to God than the folk you despise?
Are we closer to God than the ants and the flies?
Is your idea of Heaven my idea of Hell?
When you get to those gates will your friend come as well?

Will the good Lord preserve you in pickle or brine?
Well if I catch you first then he won’t get the time
I’m all out of pity, you’re all out of line
But remember you used to be mine, Remember you used to be mine

Are you closer to God than the folk you despise?
Are we closer to God than the ants and the flies?
Is your idea of Heaven my idea of Hell?
When you get to those gates will your friend come as well?

Does the Lord keep you warm in her bed every night?
Are your prayers in the morning just squeals of delight?
Has my mind disappeared now the flesh is so weak?
I notice you always say nothing to me, I notice that we never speak
I notice that we never speak, I notice that we never speak

Craig White | 6727 comments We've laid the cables and the wires
We've split the wood and stoked
the fires
We've lit our town so there is no
Place for crime to hide
Our little church is painted white
And in the safety of the night
We all go quiet as a mouse
For the word is out
God is in the house
God is in the house
God is in the house
No cause for worry now
God is in the house

Moral sneaks in the White House
Computer geeks in the school house
Drug freaks in the crack house
We don't have that stuff here
We have a tiny little Force
But we need them of course
For the kittens in the trees
And at night we are on our knees
As quiet as a mouse
For God is in the house
God is in the house
God is in the house
And no one's left in doubt
God is in the house

Homos roaming the streets in packs
Queer bashers with tyre-jacks
Lesbian counter-attacks
That stuff is for the big cities
Our town is very pretty
We have a pretty little square
We have a woman for a mayor
Our policy is firm but fair
Now that God is in the house
God is in the house
God is in the house
Any day now He'll come out
God is in the house

Well-meaning little therapists
Goose-stepping twelve-stepping Tetotalitarianists
The tipsy, the reeling and the drop down pissed
We got no time for that stuff here
Zero crime and no fear
We've bred all our kittens white
So you can see them in the night
And at night we're on our knees
As quiet as a mouse
Since the word got out
From the North down to the South
For no-one's left in doubt
There's no fear about
If we all hold hands and very quietly shout
Hallelujah
God is in the house
God is in the house
Oh I wish He would come out
God is in the house

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments At night they would go walking ‘til the breaking of the day
The morning is for sleeping …
Through the dark streets they go searching to seek God in their own way
Save the nighttime for your weeping … Your weeping…

Singing la lalalala la le … And the night over London rang

So we rode down to the river where the toiling ghosts strain for their curses to be broken
We’d go underneath the arches where the witches are in there saying
There are ghost towns in the ocean … The ocean …
Singing la lalalala la le … And the night over London rang

God is in the houses and God is in my head … and all the cemeteries in London
I see God come in my garden, but I don’t know what he said?
For my heart, it wasn’t open … Not open …

Singing la lalalala la le … And the night over London rang
Singing la lalalala la le … There's no light over London today

Craig White | 6727 comments London's burning
London's burning
All across the town, all across the night
Everybody's driving with full headlights
Black or white, you turn it on, you face the new religion
Everybody's sitting 'round watching television
London's burning with boredom now
London's burning dial nine-nine-nine-nine-nine
London's burning with boredom now
London's burning dial nine-nine-nine-nine-nine
I'm up and down the Westway, in and out the lights
What a great traffic system, it's so bright
I can't think of a better way to spend the night
Than speeding around underneath the yellow lights

Craig White | 6727 comments Oh to die of kisses
Ecstasies and charms
Pavements of poets will write that I died
In nine angel's arms

And they all were smiling
Still seductive as sin in their eyes
The man I had been
No more hard luck stories to wear
Nothing left to give
Why the hell should I care

Ann owns my smile and Mary's my shadow
In Channing Way
And with her cellophane sighs
Celina the candle
Begs me to stay

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments On a beach, North Africa, Nine tribesmen stand alone
Waiting for a distant call, Waiting for the world to answer
Through' the night of a thousand stars, Encircled by the light
They began to sing a new song, Of forces that surround us

Nine voices, This dialogue, Nine voices, Singing as one
Nine voices, This dialogue, Nine voices

When the sun came up they sang, As the perfect calendar says
Each had the power of people, Speaking new languages
They gave forgiveness meaning, New ways of letting go
Each child is born for greatness, With forces that surround them

This voice, This dialogue, This voice, Singing as one
Nine voices, This dialogue, Nine voices, Singing as one
His voice, This dialogue, This voice, Singing as one

Nine voices, Nine voices, Nine voices, Nine voices

Craig White | 6727 comments Ah wanna tell ya 'bout a girl
You know, she lives in Room 29
Why that's the one right up top a mine
Ah start to cry, ah start to cry-y
O ah hear her walkin'
Walkin' barefoot cross the floorboards
All through this lonesome night
And ah hear her crying too
Hot tears come splashin' down
Leakin' through the cracks
Down upon my face, ah catch 'em in my mouth!
Walk 'n' Cry, Walk 'n' Cry-y!
From her to eternity
From her to eternity
From her to eternity

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments If you see me walking down the street
And I start to cry each time we meet ...
Walk on by, walk on by

Make believe, That you don't see the tears, Just let me grieve
In private 'cause each time I see you, I break down and cry
Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on by

I just can't get over losing you, And so if I seem broken and blue
Walk on by, walk on by ...
Foolish pride, That's all that I have left, So let me hide
The tears and the sadness you gave me, When you said goodbye

Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on by (don't stop)
Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on

Walk on by, walk on by ...
Foolish pride, Is all that I have left, So let me hide
The tears and the sadness you gave me, When you said goodbye

Walk on by (don't stop) Walk on by (don't stop)
Now you really gotta walk on by (don't stop)
Baby, never even see the tears I cry (don't stop)
Now you really gotta walk on by (don't stop)

Don't know where it goes? But it's only me, and I walk alone
I walk this empty street, On the boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps, And I'm the only one, and I walk alone

Craig White | 6727 comments Walking down the street
Kicking cans
Looking at the billboards
Also rans

Summing up the people
Checking out the race
Doing what I'm doing
Feeling out of place

Walking, walking
In the rain

Feeling like a woman
Looking like a man
Sounding like a no-no
Mating when I can
Whistling in the darkness
Shining in the night
Coming to conclusions
Right is night is tight

Walking, walking
In the rain

Come in all you jesters
Enter all you fools
Sit down no-no's
Vulgar fools
Trip the light fantastic
Dance the swivel hips
Coming to conclusions
Button up your lips

Walking, walking
In the rain

Martin O' | 2196 comments When I was born I was running
As my feet hit the ground
Before I could walk I was humming
An old railroad sound
Things didnt get much better
When by the age of five
They found me walking into Clarksdale
Trying to keep my friends alive
No time for celebration
There was no known cure
Seems I was born and raised
In the wrong killing floor
And my friends gathered 'round
To see if the experiment had worked
I was misplaced, out of time
Privileged and worse
Oh mama, please don't cry for me
Tears to the river, tears to be free

She walks the streets to pass the time
The cash machines are laughing, At plastic people passing
She walks the streets to pass the time

Sadie, Sadie kn-knows the sound of the streets, It's the same as anything, a-ahhh

She sees the midnight taxis, The toilets and the backstreets
She feels the wheels and needs a line
Outside there's crazy parties, There's dames in faces laughing
So many ways to pass the time

Sadie, Sadie kn-knows the sound of the streets, It's the same as anything, a-ahhh

She walks the streets of Summer, Inside her there's no future

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments The night is black, without a moon.
The air is thick and still.
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely, torchlit hill.

Features distorted in the flickering light;
Faces are twisted and grotesque.
Silent and stern in the sweltering night:
The mob moves like demons possessed.
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right,
Confident their ways are best.

The righteous rise, with burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will.
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill.

They say there are strangers who threaten us:
Our immigrants and infidels.
They say there is strangeness too dangerous
In our theatres and book-store shelves.
Those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves.

Quick to judge, quick to anger,
Slow to understand.
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand-in-hand.

I prayed to Elvis on my knees
To take this thing from around me
Or snap it with a thunder-crack
And change my blues to black
But, how did my love surround me
With such a dead thing around me,

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Domino, Domino, you're an angel that Heaven has sent me
Domino, Domino, you're a devil designed to torment me
When your heart must know that I love you so
Tell me why, tell me why, why do you make me cry, Domino?

Domino, Domino, won't you tell me you'll never desert me?
Domino, Domino, if you stay I don't care how you hurt me
Fate has made you so, you can't change, I know
You can't change, though you try, but then neither can I, Domino

Just one look in your eyes and I melt with desire
Just a touch of your hands and I burst into fire
And my whole world fills with music when I'm lost in your embrace

But I know that you're fickle and I'm not misled
Each attractive new face that you see turns your head
And it scares me that tomorrow, someone else may take my place

Domino, Domino, you're an angel that Heaven has sent me
Domino, Domino, you're a devil designed to torment me
When your heart must know that I love you so
Tell me why, tell me why, why do you make me cry, Domino?

Domino, Domino, I'll forgive anything that you do
Domino, Domino, nothing matters if I have you

I don't know why, I don't know how?
I thought I loved you but I'm not sure now?
I've seen you look at strangers too many times
The love you want is of a different kind

Remember when we felt the sun
A love like paradise, how hot it burned
A threat of distant thunder, the sky was red
And where you walked you always turned every head

(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down
(All day, all day) Domino dancing
(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down
(All day, all day) Domino dancing

I thought that when we fought I was to blame?
But now I know you play a different game
I've watched you dance with danger still wanting more
Add another number to the score

(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down
(All day, all day) Domino dancing
(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down
(All day, all day) Domino dancing

When you look around you wonder? ...
Do you play to win? Or are you just a bad loser?

(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down
(All day, all day) Domino dancing

I don't know why, I don't know how?
I thought I loved you but I'm not sure now?
I hear the thunder crashing, the sky is dark
And now a storm is breaking within my heart

(All day, all day) Watch them all fall down

(All day, all day) Domino dancing

Greek Gods recline on her knees

It all makes up the vision I call Domino, Right now

A suit of doubt she gave to me, In return I cried a sea
Of poet's tears and something more, I camped outside her velvet door

It all makes up the vision I call Domino
It all makes up the vision I call Domino, Right now

Now every time this girl I see, She tries to chain me to her tree

We sit here stranded, though we're all doing our best to deny it.
And Louise holds a handful of rain, tempting you to defy it.
Lights flicker from the opposite loft.
In this room the heat pipes just cough.
The country music station plays soft
But there's nothing, really nothing to turn off

Just Louise and her lover so entwined.
And these visions of Johanna that conquer my mind.

It shelters like an Ark, That always takes you in
And the mind goes numb, Until it's feeling no pain
And the soul cries out, For a handful of rain, O-Ohhh

Wash your women in your Whiskey, When your future's in the past
And your staring up at Heaven, From the bottom of a glass
And you need some insulation, From the years you've had and lost
And you feel the perspiration, As you're adding up the cost

And the night rolls on, Like a slow moving train, And the soul cries out ...

There's a land beyond the living, There's a land beyond the dead
If it's true that God's forgiving, Of the lives that we had led?
In the distance there's a thunder, And the air is thick and warm
And the patrons watch with wonder, The approaching of the storm

Craig White | 6727 comments The morning sun touched lightly on
The eyes of Lucy Jordan
In a white suburban bedroom
In a white suburban town
And she lay there neath the covers
Dreaming of a thousand lovers
Til the world turned to orange
And the room went spinning round
At the age of 37
She realized she'd never ride
Through Paris in a sports car
With the warm wind in her hair
So she let the phone keep ringing
As she sat there softly singing
Pretty nursery rhymes she'd memorized
In her Daddy's easy chair

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Lost in the High Street, Where the dogs run, Roaming suburban boys
Mother's got her hairdo to be done, She says they're too old for toys

Stood by the bus stop, With a felt pen, In this suburban hell
And in the distance, A police car, To break the suburban spell

Let's take a ride, And run with the dogs tonight, In suburbia
You can't hide, Run with the dogs tonight, In suburbia

Break a window, By the Town Hall, Listen! A siren screams
There in the distance, Like a roll call, Of all the suburban dreams

Let's take a ride, And run with the dogs tonight, In suburbia
You can't hide, Run with the dogs tonight, In suburbia

I only wanted something else to do but hang around ...
I only wanted something else to do but hang around ...
Hang around, Hang around ...

It's on the front page, Of the papers, This is their hour of need
Where's a policeman, When you need one, To blame the colour TV?

Let's take a ride, And run with the dogs tonight, In suburbia
You can't hide, Run with the dogs tonight, In suburbia

Craig White | 6727 comments I'm armed, and dangerous
I prowl the streets at night
I howl when I get the scent
Turn on my flashing light
I sit in the shadows
Waiting for a fight
If you see a creep
In your rear view mirror
It's a hungry black and white

'Cos I'm a police car
Police car
I'm a police car
Police car

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I'm just a gypsy, Laying sheets of lightning, Across the Tijuana stone
A plaster, Sits in the shadow, Looks an awful lot like Rose

Mexicali Rose, come home, Turn your pretty back to the sunset
Listen to the words of the one you love, Rosie, won't you please come home?
Mexicali Rose, come home, Turn your pretty back to the sunset
Listen to the words of the one you love, Rosie, won't you hurry on home?

Craig White | 6727 comments I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
And the touch of a world that is older
I turn the switch and check the number
I leave it on when in bed I slumber
I hear the rhythms of the music
I buy the product and never use it
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand, just what does he say?

[Chorus]
I'm on a Mexican radio
I'm on a Mexican (whoa-oh) radio

I dial it in and tune the station
They talk about the U.S. inflation
I understand just a little
No comprende, it's a riddle

[Chorus]
I'm on a Mexican radio
I'm on a Mexican (whoa-oh) radio
I'm on a Mexican radio
I'm on a Mexican (whoa-oh) radio

I wish I was in Tijuana
Eating barbecued iguana
I'd take requests on the telephone
I'm on a wavelength far from home

I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
I dial it in from south of the border
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can't understand, just what does he say?

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Chips on my shoulder, More as I grow older
Feel I owe a debt, For the things I don't get
I only miss out, (Well I was there before)
I sit in a corner, Sit on the floor

Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Chips on my shoulder, Chips on my shoulder

There's no time for fun time, It's sit and complain time
I'll talk about famine, While cooking the dinner
Don't you feel guilty? Don't you feel pity? ... (No)
While my head gets fatter, And the starving get thinner

Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Chips on my shoulder, Chips on my shoulder

I should have told her, I've chips on my shoulder
I'm making a stand, While I sit on my arse
Fish and Chip supper, While those in the gutter
Can't have a good time, Fun's just a farce

Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Chips on my shoulder, Chips on my shoulder

Chips on my shoulder, More as I grow older
Feel I owe a debt, For the things I don't get
I only miss out, (Well I was there before)
I sit in a corner, Sit on the floor

Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Misery, Complaints, Self pity, Injustice
Chips on my shoulder, Chips on my shoulder

Craig White | 6727 comments When Sunday morning dandruff turns out to be confetti
And the cost of living in sin would make a poor man out of Paul Getty
The girl in your dreams would have you up on an under age charge
And the man of the moment is the lifer at large

[Chorus:]
If you've got something to hide, if you've got something to sell
If you've got somebody's pride she might kiss and tell
Or wind up with a fight fan in the Hammersmith Hotel
You better speak up now if you want your piece
You better speak up now
It won't mean a thing later
Yesterday's news is tomorrow's fish and chip paper

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments You talk to the father, the sister and the mother
With a microphone in one hand and a cheque-book in the other
And the camera noses in to the tears on her face:
The tears on her face: the tears on her face.
You can put them back together with your paper & paste
But you can't put them back together: can't put them back together.

What would you say; what would you do?
Children and animals two by two.
Give me the needle; give me the rope.
We're gonna melt them down for pills & soap.

Four & twenty crowbars jemmy your desire
Out of the frying-pan and into the fire.
The king is in his counting-house: some folks have all the luck.
And all we get is pictures of Lord & Lady Muck.
They come from lovely people with a hard line in hypocrisy.
There are ash-trays of emotion with the fag-ends of the aristocracy.

What would you say; what would you do?
Children and animals two by two.
Give me the needle; give me the rope.
We're gonna melt them down for pills & soap.

The sugar-coated pill is getting bitterer still:
You think your country needs you but you know it never will.
So pack up your troubles in a stolen handbag.
Don't dilly-dally, boys: rally round the flag.
Give us our daily bread in individual slices
And something in the daily rag to cancel any crisis.

What would you say; what would you do?
Children and animals two by two.
Give me the needle; give me the rope.
We're gonna melt them down for pills & soap.

Craig White | 6727 comments arguably (with myself, obviously) my favourite elvis song!

I woke up last and thought I was going to die (oh sad}
I woke up last and thought I was going to die (oh sad)
My doctor came a runnin' and my family stood by. (Well now 'said)

He left three Bop Pills for ten, two and four (3 bop pills)
He left three Bop Pills for ten, two and four (3 bop pills)
And man when they hit me, I landed in the middle of the floor. (oh say)

And I bopped and rocked and rolled like I never had before
And I bopped and rocked and rolled on every inch of that floor
Yeah, B-O-P, bop, Well P-I-L-L-S BOP PILLS!

I went to see old doc and I couldn't get near his shack (oh loaded, man}
I went to see old doc and I couldn't get near his shack (yeah sad)
They were creeping through the front door and boppin round all out the back. (I'm tellin ya)

I waited 8 long hours just to knock upon his door
I waited 8 long hours just to knock upon his door
I came to pay my bill brought money for a hundred more. (say)

And I bopped and rocked and rolled like I never had before
And I bopped and rocked and rolled on every inch of that floor
Yeah, B-O-P, bop, Say P-I-L-L-S BOP PILLS!

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Sorry to break the rules. I have to post another one here in case the topic changes...

It says 'ere that the unions will never learn.
It says 'ere that the economy is on the upturn.
And it says 'ere we should be proud that we are free
And have free press to flex our democracy.

Those brave voices on the right of the house are echoed down the Street of Shame,
Where politics mix with bingo & tits in a money & numbers game,
Where they offer you a feature on stockings & suspenders
Next to calls for stiffer penalties for sex-offenders.

It says 'ere that this year's prince is born.
It says 'ere "Do you ever wish that you were better informed?"
And it says 'ere that we can only stop the rot
With a large dose of law & order and a touch of the short, sharp shock.

If this does not reflect your views you should understand
That those who own the papers also own this land
And they'd rather you believed in Coronation Street capers
Than the war for circulation that sells newspapers.

Could it be an infringement of the freedom of the press
To print pictures of women in states of undress?

When you wake up to the fact that your paper is Tory
Just remember there are two sides to every story.

(Billy Bragg)

Craig White | 6727 comments some folks don't got no patience! :)

It's coming through a hole in the air
From those nights in Tiananmen Square
It's coming from the feel
That this ain't exactly real
Or it's real, but it ain't exactly there
From the wars against disorder
From the sirens night and day
From the fires of the homeless
From the ashes of the gay
Democracy is coming to the USA
It's coming through a crack in the wall
On a visionary flood of alcohol
From the staggering account
Of the Sermon on the Mount
Which I don't pretend to understand at all
It's coming from the silence
On the dock of the bay,
From the brave, the bold, the battered
Heart of Chevrolet
Democracy is coming to the USA

Why do we build the wall, my children, my children?
Why do we build the wall?

[ALL TOGETHER]
Why do we build the wall?
We build the wall to keep us free
That’s why we build the wall
We build the wall to keep us free

[HADES]
How does the wall keep us free, my children, my children?
How does the wall keep us free?

[ALL TOGETHER]
How does the wall keep us free?
The wall keeps out the enemy
And we build the wall to keep us free
That’s why we build the wall
We build the wall to keep us free

[HADES]
Who do we call the enemy, my children, my children?
Who do we call the enemy?

[ALL TOGETHER]
Who do we call the enemy?
The enemy is poverty
And the wall keeps out the enemy
And we build the wall to keep us free
That’s why we build the wall
We build the wall to keep us free

[HADES]
What do we have that they should want, my children, my children?
What do we have that they should want?

[ALL TOGETHER]
What do we have that they should want?
We have a wall to work upon
We have work and they have none
And our work is never done
My children, my children
And the war is never won
The enemy is poverty
And the wall keeps out the enemy
And we build the wall to keep us free
That's why we build the wall
We build the wall to keep us free
We build the wall to keep us free

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments There's a place, Where words mean nothing or much less
Such a disgrace, We got to get out of this mess
Coming in under the cover of darkness, How high shall we build this wall?
I could've said more but it would've seemed heartless ...
How hard did I slam that door?

I swore I'd never walk away, Until I saw this day
It didn't turn out the way we planned, Now I'm living in ...
Broken Promise Land, Broken Promise Land

There's a town I know, Has a strange resemblance to Jericho
Even though, Seven horns are getting ready to blow
Coming in under the cover of darkness, How high shall we build this wall?
Could've said more but it would've seemed heartless ...
How tight shall we close that door?

They only claimed to be redeemed, They take that name and then blaspheme
It didn't turn out the way we planned, Now I'm living in ...
Broken Promise Land, Broken Promise Land

There's a place, Where infidels and showgirls meet
Such a disgrace, Wedding bells crumble in the street
Coming in under the cover of darkness, How high shall we build this wall?
I could've said more but it would've seemed heartless ...
How tight shall we shut that door?

In the name of the Father and the Son, In the name of gasoline and a gun
It didn't turn out the way we planned, Now I'm living in ...
Broken Promise Land, Broken Promise Land

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments There's a place where I've been told
Every street is paved with gold
And it's just across the borderline.
And when it's time to take your turn,
Here's one lesson that you must learn:
You could lose more than you'll ever hope to find.

When you reach the broken promised land
And every dream slips through your hands,
Then you'll know that it's too late to change your mind.
'Cause you've paid the price to come so far
Just to wind up where you are
And you're still just across the borderline.

Up and down the Rio Grande,
A thousand footprints in the sand
Reveal a secret no one can define.
The river flows on like a breath
In between our life and death.
Tell me who's the next to cross the borderline?

En la triste oscuridad,
Hoy tenemos que cruzar
Este río que nos llama más allá.
But hope remains when pride is gone
And it keeps you moving on,
Calling you across the borderline.

When you reach the broken promised land,
Every dream slips through your hands
And you'll know it's too late to change your mind.
'Cause you pay the price to come so far
Just to wind up where you are
And you're still just across the borderline.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I have a tale to tell, Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall, Too blind to see the writing on the wall

A man can tell a thousand lies, I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned, 'Til then, it will burn inside of me

I know where beauty lives, I've seen it once, I know the warm she gives
The light that you could never see, It shines inside, you can't take that from me

A man can tell a thousand lies, I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secret I have learned, 'Til then, it will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind, You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secret I knew, Then will I ever have the chance again?

Sodom and Gomorrow was destroyed by fire
It keep on burning
It keep on burning

Seven golden candlesticks, yeah
In the King's palace, he smoke his chalice
So he keeps on burning
While the table keeps turning
They're at the turning point
They're at the turning point, to reality
They keep on burning
They keep on burning

Down in the mudhole
That's where I used to break my bread
Down in the dungeon
That's where I used to lay my head

No more lick from the licking stick
It keep on burning
No more trick
It keep on burning

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Allons, viens encore, chérie
J'attendrai patiemment sous la lampe dans la vieille avenue

Then I may end, She had things to buy
I close my eyes, Yet I don't know why
I gave her money; said she knew someone, And she said she won't be long

Lamplight keep on burning while this heart of mine is yearning
Lamplight keep on burning till this love of yours is mine

I sat alone with my thoughts and laughed
Then saw your face in an old photograph
I didn't think that I could live without you, but what am I to do?

Lamplight keep on burning while this heart of mine is yearning
Lamplight keep on burning till this love of yours is mine

Come home again, dear, I have waited year after year
Under the lamp in our old Avenue
If all in the world that's laughing, why should it make us cry?

Ah ...

(Possibly one of the Bee Gees worst tracks of all time?)
