suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I like my big sister
But I don't want to wear her coat!
It may be black, It may fit perfect?
But you and I both know ... it's a girl's coat

Now I can handle some hand-me-downs
Shirts and sandals are out of bounds
Balls and games and such, I don't mind ...
But a coat? ... over the line!

Craig White | 6727 comments Till I met her, I thought I knew the answers
I thought a bit of treatment was all a body needs
I'll take you where the haps are
All the handsome chaps are
Squeeze you till I make your feelings bleed
She put me right behind her in fifteen minutes
She could have had my things off, so sadly was I raised
I had a lot to learn, dear
If I'd gone on the turn, dear
It wouldn't be surprising nowadays
You know she's Superman's big sister
Her X-ray eyes see through my silly ways
Superman's big sister, superior skin and blister
It doesn't seem surprising nowadays... yeah!
Superman's big sister
Superman's big sister
(oh-oh-ooh-oh)
Superman's big sister
Superman's big sister
(oh-oh-ooh-oh)
I said she's Superman's big sister
It doesn't seem surprising nowadays

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Sheep to the slaughter, Ohhh, I thought this must be love
All your sons and daughters, In a stranglehold with a kid glove
She's got eyes like saucers, Ohhh, you think she's a dish
She is the blue chip that belongs to the big fish

But it's easier to say "I love you", Than "Yours sincerely"; I suppose?
All little sisters like to try on big sister's clothes ... Big sister's clothes

The sport of kings, the old queen's heart, The prince in darkness stole some tart
It's in the papers, it's in the charts, It's in the stop press before it all starts
With a hammer on the slap and tickle, Under grisly garments
With all the style and finesse, Of the purchase of armaments
Compassion went out of fashion, That's all your concern meant
Sweat it out for thirty seconds on home improvements

But it's easier to say "I love you", Than "Yours sincerely"; I suppose?
All little sisters like to try on big sister's clothes ... Big sister's clothes
Big sister's clothes ... Big sister's clothes

"Er, nothing."
None
No recipes
It was like a see-saw
No
It was like an up and down
Bye bye
Mother, Sister
Mother, Sister
Why did you put your head in?
Reach or preach
It's all a diminished return
Now
Floorboard
Creaks
Mother, Sister
Mother, Sister
Why did you push your head in?

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I am a pilgrim and a stranger, Traveling through this wearisome land
I've got a home in that yonder city, good Lord, And it's not, not made by hand

I've gotta mother, sister and a brother, Who have gone this way before
I am determined to go and see them, good Lord, For they're on that other shore

I am a pilgrim and a stranger, Traveling through this wearisome land
I've got a home in that yonder city, good Lord, And it's not, not made by hand

I'm goin' down to the river of Jordan, Just to bathe my wearisome soul
If I can just touch the hem of his garment, good Lord, Then I know he'd take me home

I am a pilgrim and a stranger, Traveling through this wearisome land
I've got a home in that yonder city, good Lord, And it's not, not made by hand

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Oops! - what tech fantasy did I walk in on?!! ... (*puts Hand over Eyes*) ...

When I took you out, I knew what you were all about
But when I did, I didn't mean to turn you on?
Now I bring you home, You told me goodnight's not enough for you
I'm sorry, baby, I didn't mean to turn you on? ... Ohhh, I didn't mean to turn you on

You read me wrong, I wasn't trying to lead you on? ...
Not like you think? I didn't mean to turn you on ...

I know you, Were expecting a one night stand
When I refused, I knew you wouldn't understand
I'm sorry, baby, I didn't mean to turn you on?

I told you twice, I was only trying to be nice
Only trying to be nice, Ohhh, I didn't mean to turn you on?
Babe, now why should I, Feel guilty 'cause I won't give, Guilty 'cause I won't give in?
I didn't mean to turn you on? ... No, I didn't mean to turn you on

When I took you out, I knew what you were all about
But when I did, I didn't mean to turn you on?
No, I didn't mean to turn you on

I didn't mean to turn you on? ... I didn't mean to turn you on ...

Stay by me, stay by me
You are the one, my only true love

The butcher bird makes it's noise
And asks you to agree
With it's brutal nesting habits
And it's pointless savagery
Now, the nightingale sings to you
And raises up the ante
I put one hand on your round ripe heart
And the other down your panties

Everything is falling, dear
Everything is wrong
It's just history repeating itself
And babe, you turn me on

Like a light bulb
Like a song

You race naked through the wilderness
You torment the birds and the bees
You leapt into the abyss, but find
It only goes up to your knees
I move stealthily from tree to tree
I shadow you for hours
I make like I'm a little deer
Grazing on the flowers

Everything is collapsing, dear
All moral sense has gone
It's just history repeating itself
And babe, you turn me on

Like an idea
Like an Atom bomb

We stand awed inside a clearing
We do not make a sound
The crimson snow falls all about
Carpeting the ground

Everything is falling, dear
All rhyme and reason gone
It's just history repeating itself
And, babe, you turn me on

Like an idea
Like an Atom bomb

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments You watch the candle burning, You stand inside the flame
You thought you were a light bulb, You've never known your age
Or the number of the page
And though you've seldom travelled, You've rode upon the world
You've sat inside the saddle, You've watched the skies unfurl
You've rode upon the world

We've seen you raging naked, Across mountain and plain
You've played with painted ladies, You've trod the narrow way
Trod the narrow way
There's nothing here to mention, As silently the rust
Digests the foundations, And gathers with the dust
And gathers with the dust

The times you think of speaking, There is nobody near
The times you think of listening, There is nothing to hear
There is nothing to hear
You watch the candle burning, You stand inside the flame
You thought you were a light bulb, You've never known your age
Or the number of the page

The sun is a light bulb
A candle's a treat
The curtains stay closed now
On my little retreat
And I'll only take medicine
If it's followed by sweets
A sickly pink liquid
That puts me to sleep

My head beats a better way
Tomorrow a better day

And I can watch TV
While I'm wrapped up in bed
And mother makes sure that
I'm watered and fed
My best from school will
Come over and stare
At me in my bubble
Of germified air

When I'm asleep the smoke fills me
I feel the heat
My illness leaves me

The sun is a light bulb
A candle's a treat
The curtains stay closed now
On my little retreat
But after a while
The noise from the street
Is making me wish I
Was back on my feet

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I'm quite partial to some Bill Fay myself ;o> ...

Take a light bulb from the closet, And replace the one above the faucet
Scrape the whiskers from my face, Nick my lip in pointless haste
Take a magic marker black, Darken a spot on the map
Of a county on the coast, Where I was born out of a ghost

Underneath the ceiling fan, Contemplate a masterplan
Breathe a sigh of recognition, For a childhood superstition
Push a thumbtack in the wall, Pierce the picture I did draw
It's a graphic portrait from my youth, This hurts my heart, this forced review

Time flies
Time crawls
Like an insect
Up and down the walls

The light pours out of me
The light pours out of me

The conspiracy
Of silence ought
To revolutionize
My thought

The light pours out of me
The light pours out of me

The cold light of day
Pours out of me
Leaving me black
And so healthy

The light pours out of me
The light pours out of me

It jerks out of me
Like blood
In this still life
Heartbeats of love

The light pours out of me
The light pours out of me

Let the love light carry ... let the love light carry ...
Light up the magic in every little part
Let our love shine a light in every corner of our hearts

Love shine a light in every corner of my dream
Let the love light carry ... let the love light carry ...
Like the mighty river flowing from the stream
Let our love shine a light in every corner of our dreams

And we're all gonna shine a light together
All shine a light to light the way
Brothers and sisters in every little part
Let our love shine a light in every corner of our hearts

Love shine a light in every corner of the world
Let the love light carry ... let the love light carry ...
Light up the magic for every boy and girl
Let our love shine a light in every corner of the world

Martin O' | 2196 comments All the fear has left me now, I'm not frightened anymore
It's my heart that pounds beneath my flesh
It's my mouth that pushes out this breath
And if I shed a tear I won't cage it, I won't fear love
And if I feel a rage I won't deny it, I won't fear love
Companion to our demons
They will dance and we will play
With chairs, candles and clothes
Making darkness in the day
It will be easy to look in or out, upstream or down
Without a thought
And if I shed a tear I won't cage it
I won't fear love
And if I feel a rage I won't deny it
I won't fear love
Peace in the struggle to find peace
Comfort on the way to comfort
And if I shed a tear I won't cage it
I won't fear love
And if I feel a rage I won't deny it
I won't fear love
I won't fear love
I won't fear love

message 1220: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments I am tall and I am thin
Of an enviable height
And I've been known to be quite handsome
In a certain angle and in certain light
Well I entered into O'Malley's
Said, "O'Malley I have a thirst"
O'Malley merely smiled at me
Said "You wouldn't be the first"
I knocked on the bar and pointed
To a bottle on the shelf
And as O'Malley poured me out a drink
I sniffed and crossed myself
My hand decided that the time was nigh
And for a moment it slipped from view
And when it returned, it fairly burned
With confidence anew
Well the thunder from my steely fist
Made all the glasses jangle
When I shot him, I was so handsome
It was the light, it was the angle
Huh! Hmmmmmm
"Neighbours!" I cried, "Friends!" I screamed
I banged my fist upon the bar
"I bear no grudge against you!"
And my dick felt long and hard
"I am the man for which no God waits
But for which the whole world yearns
I'm marked by darkness and by blood
And one thousand powder-burns"
Well, you know those fish with the swollen lips
That clean the ocean floor
When I looked at poor O'Malley's wife
That's exactly what I saw
I jammed the barrel under her chin
And her face looked raw and vicious
Her head it landed in the sink
With all the dirty dishes
Her little daughter Siobhan
Pulled beers from dusk till down
And amongst the townfolk she was a bit of a joke
But she pulled the best beer in town
I swooped magnificent upon her
As she sat shivering in her grief
Like the Madonna painted on the church-house wall
In whale's blood and banana leaf
Her throat it crumbled in my fist
And I spun heroically around
To see Caffrey rising from his seat
I shot that mother fucker down
Mmmmmmmmmm Yeah Yeah Yeah
"I have no free will", I sang
As I flew about the murder
Mrs. Richard Holmes, she screamed
You really should have heard her
I sang and I laughed, I howled and I wept
I panted like a pup
I blew a hole in Mrs. Richard Holmes
And her husband stupidly stood up
As he screamed, "You are an evil man"
And I paused a while to wonder
"If I have no free will then how can I
Be morally culpable, I wonder"
I shot Richard Holmes in the stomach
And gingerly he sat down
And he whispered weirdly, "No offense"
And then lay upon the ground
"None taken", I replied to him
To which he gave a little cough
With blazing wings I neatly aimed
And blew his head completely off
I've lived in this town for thirty years
And to no-one I am a stranger
And I put new bullets in my gun
Chamber upon chamber
And I turned my gun on the bird-like Mr. Brookes
I thought of Saint Francis and his sparrows
And as I shot down the youthful Richardson
It was St. Sebastian I thought of, and his arrows
Hhhhhhhhhh Mmmmmmmmmmmm
I said, "I want to introduce myself
And I am glad that all you came"
And I leapt upon the bar
And shouted out my name
Well Jerry Bellows, he hugged his stool
Closed his eyes and shrugged and laughed
And with an ashtray as big as a fucking really big brick
I split his head in half
His blood spilled across the bar
Like a steaming scarlet brook
And I knelt at it's edge on the counter
Wiped the tears away and looked
Well, the light in there was blinding
Full of God and ghosts of truth
I smiled at Henry Davenport
Who made an attempt to move
Well, from the position I was standing
The strangest thing I ever saw
The bullet entered through the top of his chest
And blew his bowels out on the floor
Well I floated down the counter
Showing no remorse
I shot a hole in Kathleen Carpenter
Recently divorced
But remorse i felt and remorse I had
It clung to every thing
From the raven's hair upon my head
To the feathers on my wings
Remorse sqeezed my hand in it's fradulent claw
With it's golden hairless chest
And I glided through the bodies
And killed the fat man Vincent West
Who sat quietly in his chair
A man become a child
And I raised the gun up to his head
Executioner-style
He made no attempt to resist
So fat and dull and lazy
"Did you know I lived in your street?" I said
And he looked at me as though I were crazy
"O", he said, "I had no idea"
And he grew as quiet as a mouse
And the roar of the pistol when it went off
Near blew that hat right off the house
Hmmmmmm Uh Uh
Well, I caught my eye in the mirror
And gave it a long and loving inspection
"There stands some kind of man", I roared
And there did, in the reflection
My hair combed back like a raven's wing
My muscles hard and tight
And curling from the business end of my gun
Was a query-mark of cordite
Well I spun to the left, I spun to the right
And I spun to the left again
"Fear me! Fear me! Fear me!"
But no one did cause they were dead
Huh! Hmmmmmmmmm
And then there were the police sirens wailing
And a bull-horn squelched and blared
"Drop your weapons and come out
With your hands held in the air"
Well, I checked the chamber of my gun
Saw I had one final bullet left
My hand, it looked almost human
As I raised it to my head
"Drop your weapon and come out!
Keep your hands above your head!"
I had one one long hard think about dying
And did exactly what they said
There must have been fifty cops out there
In a circle around O'Malley's bar
"Don't shoot", I cried, "I'm a man unarmed!"
So they put me in their car
And they sped me away from that terrible scene
And I glanced out of the window
Saw O'Malley's bar, saw the cops and the cars
And I started counting on my fingers
Aaaaaah One Aaaaaah Two Aaaaaah Three Aaaaaaah Four
O'Malley's bar O'Malley's bar

And burn your bridges down.
We make a little history baby
Every time you come around.
Come loose your dogs upon me
And let your hair hang down.
You are a little mystery to me
Every time you come around.
We talk about it all night long
We define our moral ground.
But when I crawl into your arms
Everything comes tumbling down.
Come sail your ships around me
And burn your bridges down.
We make a little history baby
Every time you come around.
Your face has fallen sad now
For you know the time is nigh
When I must remove your wings
And you, you must try to fly.
Come sail your ships around me

Let your hair hang low
Tell me what you want
Because i don't know
Let me see your eyes
Don't turn away
Don't know what to do
Don't know what to say

There are times when you smile as you turn to me
But they pass like sun
Only shadows that turn into dust when the daylight is done

I don't see
How I can
I can't say
What i see
You don't want
What I am
What you want
I can't be

Let me see your eyes
Don't turn away

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments You took my love, You took my trust
You turned 'em in, To a pile of rust
Stole my money, And you lied to me
You said we were shootin' it straight, Mutually

Now I think you want, Me to be kind?
Bury the past, And ease your mind?
But I'm not here, To make you pay ...
Baby, I just don't know what to say? Baby, I just don't know what to say?

It makes me wonder, How long I've been your fool?
Though it hardly changes, What I feel for you
And that's the thing, I don't understand?
It goes to show, Just what kind of fool I am

Covered in darkness, But I wanna see ...
What's the matter with you, babe? What's the matter with me? ...
If I could believe? I'd hit my knees and pray
But baby, I just don't know what to say? Baby, I just don't know what to say?

I know you're shocked, At my loss for words
'Cause I can talk, The wings off a Hummingbird
I think too fast, But not fast enough for you
And everything you always wanted, To be brand new

Now my mind is tongue-tied, I got two left feet
I can't dance outta here, I keep hittin' Repeat
Ohhh and it's the same sad song, The jukebox plays ...
Baby, I just don't know what to say? Baby, I just don't know what to say?

Baby, I just don't know what to say? Baby, I just don't know what to say?
Oooh, Baby, I just don't know what to say ...

Val H. | 22151 comments The only match here is "fool" but I love her clever lyrics and I know Les will appreciate the last line:

Sometimes when I’m reading a pop singer’s lyrics
I can’t fathom why fame has depleted their grasp of English
There must be an unwritten rule
To forget every grammar class you took at school because

Love songs – they don’t make sense
But then love does – not make sense
It’s just a (clap clap) chemical imbalance
That makes people want to live or die
If language is what separates us
From the chimps and the alligators
Then love songs…what’s the story with love songs…
Then love songs…what’s the story with love songs…

Every song takes me hours to spell out a story
Then along comes a pop-rock songwriter to steal the glory
There’s no reason why you should care -
About your hands in the air – unless you’re under a helicopter

Love songs – are maddening
I can’t work out what’s happening
Sure as this costume is unflattering
Love makes a fool of you and I
And if we’re the paramount
Of what the animal kingdom’s all about
Then love songs…what’s the story with love songs…
Then love songs…what’s the story with love songs…
I love you. I need a way to write I love you… Without it sounding trite
…My sun, my moon, my Milky Way…the Jackie to my JFK

Is clever – an unachievable endeavour – when the
subject is someone who’s tricked you into using your own…
…heart….
…Your damned stupid heart…..

Love songs…those silly little love songs…
Oh love songs…what’s the story with love songs…

Love songs – there’s no excuse for the clichés and abuse of the
Grade 5 language rule - just because you want to multiply
But if I find someone to be with
You can rest assured that I’ll proofread all my
Love songs…all my well-written love songs…
Love songs…Just you wait for my love songs…

Love songs – are my pariah From Sheeran to Mariah
When the Martians open fire - It’ll be because of Air Supply
When the human race has dissipated
Our iTunes clouds will humiliate us
With love songs…so many terrible love songs…
Oh love songs…what’s the story with love songs…

7 billion less lonely people in the world….
You mean 7 billion FEWER lonely people in the world

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Pale, pubescent beasts roam through the streets and coffee-shops
Their prey gather in herds in stiff knee-length skirts and white ankle-socks
But while they search for a mate, my type hibernate, in bedrooms above
Composing their songs of love

Young, uniform minds in uniform lines and uniform ties
Run round with trousers on fire and signs of desire they cannot disguise
While I try to find words as light as the birds that circle above
To put in my songs of love

Fate doesn't hang on a wrong or right choice?
Fortune depends on the tone of your voice ...
So sing while you have time, Let the song shine down from above
And fill you with songs of love

Fate doesn't hang on a wrong or right choice?
Fortune depends on the tone of your voice ...
So let's sing while we still can, While the song hangs high up above
Wonderful songs of love ... Beautiful songs of love

Martin O' | 2196 comments She was pregnant in May
Now their on their way
Dashing thru the snow
To St John's, here we go
And it could be a boy
But it's's okay if he's a girl
Oh, these things that grow out of
The things that we give
We should move to the westside
They still believe in things
That give a kid half a chance
When he pulled off the road
Step in a waltz of red moonbeams
Said he fit an APB, a robbery nearby
And he go for his wallet
And they thought he was going for a gun
And the cops blew Bird away
Some kids like watching Saturday cartoons
Some girls listen to records all day in their rooms
But what do birds leave behind
Of the wings that they came with
If a boy's in a tree building model planes
Skeletons
Skeletons

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments My Dad talks a lot about cowboys
Like John Wayne and people I don't even know
I like the cartoons on Saturday morning
'Cause I'm only four years old

But my Dad just loves cowboy movies
He even bought me a big cowboy hat
And when I put it on with my boots and my Levi's
I can tell that he really likes that

Yod-el-ay-ee-ay de-lay-ee-o de-lay-ee

I love to watch Nickelodeon
You might say I grew up on Sesame Street
My favorites are Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch
And I think the muppets are neat

But my Dad just loves cowboy movies
He's never heard of Ernie and Bert
I'm just not a cowboy, I guess I'm a nowboy
And I sure hope his feelings aren't hurt

Yod-el-ay-ee-ay de-lay-ee-o de-lay-ee
Yod-el-ay-ee-ay de-lay-ee-o de-lay-ee

nocheese | 6824 comments Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold
They'd rather give you a song than diamonds or gold
Lonestar belt buckles and old faded levis
And each night begins a new day
If you don't understand him, an' he don't die young
He'll prob'ly just ride away

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars or drive them old trucks
Let 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
'Cos they'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

Cowboys like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountain mornings
Little warm puppies and children and girls of the night
Them that don't know him won't like him and them that do
Sometimes won't know how to take him
He ain't wrong, he's just different but his pride won't let him
Do things to make you think he's right

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars or drive them old trucks
Let 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
'Cos they'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

(Waylon Jennings again, seems he was a bit conflicted about cowboys).

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments When I was a lad, an old cowboy told me, "well son you're sure ridin' well
There's fame and there's fortune, and glory waitin', at the end of the rodeo trail"
So I packed up my stuff, in my old pickup truck, to follow my Rodeo dreams
Now I'm finally on the top, but I feel like a flop, Cos I've spent all the fortune I've seen

Now where is the glory, in drivin' all night, down a highway that's headed to nowhere?
What good's the fame, when the fortune's all gone, and the dreams turned into a nightmare?
Like Ed Bruce said, "Mama's don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys"
I'm inclined to agree, but if you ask me, you know I'd go through it again

Now what does it take to be a Rodeo cowboy? I guess I'm a expert at that
Takes a whole lot of guts, and old lady luck, but not too much under his hat
Well he thrives on the crowds, yellin' real loud, for him to face dyin' again
But the good Lord takes care, of children and fools, He's no kid so what's that make him?

Now where is the glory, in drivin' all night, down a highway that's headed to nowhere?
What good's the fame, when the fortune's all gone, and the dreams turned into a nightmare?
Like Ed Bruce said, "Mama's don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys"
I'm inclined to agree, but if you ask me, you know I'd go through it again

Craig White | 6727 comments Faded jaded falling cowboy star
Pawnshops itching for your old guitar
Where you're going, God only knows
The sequins have fallen from your clothes
Once you heard the Opry crowd applaud
Now you're hanging out at Fourth and Broad
On the rain wet sidewalk remembering the time
When coffee with a friend was still a dime
And everything's been sold American
The early Times is finished and the want ads all are read
Everyone's been sold American
In dreaming dreams in a roll away bed
Writing down your memoirs on some window in the frost
Roulette eyes reflecting another morning lost
Hauled in by the metro for killing time and pain
With a singing brakeman screaming through your veins
And everything's been sold American
The lonely night is mourning for the death it never dies
Everyone's been sold American
Don't let me catch you laughing when the jukebox cries
You told me you were born so much higher than life
But I've seen the faded pictures of your children and your wife
Now they're fumbling through your wallet and they're trying to find your name
It's almost like they raise the price of fame
And everything's been sold American
No place to go and brother, no place to stay
Everyone's been sold American
Just let that golden Greyhound roll your soul away

Val H. | 22151 comments I was going to post that one!

Look at ya
Yeah, take a look in the mirror
Now tell me what you see
Another satisfied customer in the front of the line for the American dream
And I remember when we was both out on the boulevard
Talkin' revolution and singin' the blues
Nowadays it's letters to the editor and cheatin' on our taxes
Is the best that we can do
Come on

Look around
There's doctors down on Wall Street
Sharpenin' their scalpels and tryin' to cut a deal
Meanwhile, back at the hospital
We got accountants playin' God and countin' out the pills
Yeah, I know, that sucks and that your HMO
Ain't doin' what you thought it would do
But everybody's gotta die sometime and we can't save everybody
It's the best that we can do

Four score and a hundred and fifty years ago
Our forefathers made us equal as long as we can pay
Yeah, well maybe that wasn't exactly what they was thinkin'
Version six-point-oh of the American way
But hey we can just build a great wall around the country club
To keep the riff-raff out until the slump is through
Yeah, I realize that ain't exactly democratic
But it's either them or us and
And it's the best we can do

Yeah, passionely conservative
It's the best we can do

Conservatively passionate
It's the best we can do

Meanwhile, still thinkin'
Hey, let's wage a war on drugs
It's the best we can do
Well, I don't know about you
But I kinda dig this global warming thing

Craig White | 6727 comments When I heard you
In my room last night
Lonely lemur calls
In my walls last night

When I was all alone
In the palm drunken night
When I was all alone
Bejeweled in the night

Pulsing we are hearts
But bleeding unlike diamonds
Tying up ourselves
But bleeding unlike diamonds

And it's bad
But, it is bad America
Under the western sky

I looked up another thousand times
You colored my world violence
You made me warm when you hit me
With a nail in my arm

I was all alone
I could have die there
I was all alone
And I did not care

But, for a burning second
Of red love in the dark
But, for my burning hands
Grasping in the dark

And it's bad
But, it is bad America
Under the western sky

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Some girls hold the ace, the deuce, the trey:
X-ray the deck to see what's coming.
Marie Antoiette, she smiled that way.
It's easy to smile when the luck is running.

Like a myth, you rode in from the west.
From the go, you had my button pressed.
Did the tea-time of your soul make you long for wilder days?
Did you never let Jack Kerouac wash over you in waves?

Sibella, we don't make sense together
But my heart's with you.
Sibella, I found myself.
Strange but true. Strange but true.

Some say you can learn a lot from books:
Thrill right to second-hand living.
Life is just as deadly as it looks,
While fiction is more forgiving.

You took chances well within your means:
Salon hair and creases in your jeans.
All the lonely winter long, did you really think it through?
Did you really ache for me like I really ached for you?

Sibella, we don't make sense together...

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I know you think love songs are cheesy
You said your wedding dress won't be in white
You're not one to make things easy
'Cuz when you're wrong you still know that you're right
Said I'm not the type you fall for, But this trip is taking us so far
I never thought we'd be together, But now look at where we are?

We just don't make sense, We don't work on paper
We're so not right, But that's what makes you ... mine ...
That's what makes you ... mine

You're not a typical kind of beauty
And you're always dressing down to spite
You only go to indie movies, And you hate it when the story turns out right
You make a scene whenever you want to, No surprise when they all stop and stare
You never care what people say about you, All they get is a finger in the air

We just don't make sense, We don't work on paper
We're so not right, But that's what makes you ... mine ...
That's what makes you ... mine, That's what makes you ... mine ...
That's what makes you mine

It all seems so improbable
I never would have thought that you're the one for me ...
The definition of impossible, And I'm never gonna let you go

We just don't make sense, We don't work on paper
We're so not right, But that's what makes you ...
We just don't make sense, We don't work on paper
We're so not right, But that's what makes you ...
Mine ... that's what makes you ... mine ...

We just don't make sense, We don't work on paper
We're so not right, But that's what makes you ...
We just don't make sense, We don't work on paper
We're so not right, But that's what makes you ... mine ...
That's what makes you mine

Going right through (try to stay cool) going through, staying cool

And nothing is better than you

I got a girlfriend that's better than this

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It's been seven hours and fifteen days, Since you took your love away ...
I go out every night and sleep all day, Since you took your love away ...

Since you've been gone I can do whatever I want, I can see whom ever I choose
I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant
But nothing, I said nothing, can take away these blues
'Cause nothing compares, Nothing compares to you

It's been so lonely without you here, Like a bird without a song
Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling ... Tell me, baby, where did I go wrong?

I could put my arms around every boy I see, But they'd only remind me of you
I went to the doctor and guess what he told me? Guess what he told me?
He said, "girl, you better try to have fun, No matter what you do" ... But he's a fool
'Cause nothing compares, Nothing compares to you

All the flowers that you planted, mama, in the back yard, All died when you went away
I know that living with you, baby, was sometimes hard
But I'm willing to give it another try
'Cause nothing compares, Nothing compares to you

Nothing compares, Nothing compares to you
Nothing compares, Nothing compares to you

Burn the sheets off my bed, man,

Man, I feel, feel so used inside
Broken hearts and leather and empty pride
'Cause I got nothin', I got nothin' to say
I got nothin', I got nothin' to say
'Cause I got nothin', got nothin' to say
I got nothin', I got nothin' to say
I got nothin', nothin' today
No, nothin'
I see you young girls coming down the road
But you ain't got any chance against the things I know
Out of the cradle, straight into the hole
Nothin'

La, la, la-la-la-la, La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la

We're busy doin' nothin', Workin' the whole day through
Tryin' to find lots of things not to do
We're busy goin' nowhere, Isn't it just a crime?
We'd like to be unhappy but, We never do have the time

I have to watch the river, To see that it doesn't stop
And stick around the rosebuds, So they'll know when to pop
Better keep the crickets cheerful, They're really a solemn bunch
Hustle, bustle, And only an hour for lunch

La, la, la-la-la-la, La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La, la, la-la-la-la, La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Tryin' to find lots of things not to do
We're busy goin' nowhere, Isn't it just a crime?
We'd like to be unhappy but, We never do have the time

I have to wake the Sun up, He's liable to sleep all day
And then inspect the rainbows, So they'll be bright and gay
You must rehearse the songbirds, To see that they sing in key
Hustle, bustle, And never a moment free

We're busy doin' nothin', Workin' the whole day through
Tryin' to find lots of things not to do
We're busy going nowhere, Isn't it just a crime?
We'd like to be unhappy but, We never do have the time

I have to meet a turtle, I'm teachin' him how to swim
Then I have to shine the dewdrops, You know they're looking rather dim
I told my friend, the robin, I'd buy him a brand new vest
Hustle, bustle, We never do have, We never do have, we never do, never do
Never do, never do, never do have the time, Never do have the time

They play my favorite song
Play it one more time
Play it all night long
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing

There is a party
Everyone is there
Everyone will leave
At exactly the same time
It's hard to imagine that

Could be this much fun

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Just has to be ;o> ...

Post Office clerks put up signs saying "position closed"
And secretaries turn off typewriters and put on their coats
And janitors padlock the gates for security guards to patrol
Bachelors phone up their friends for a drink, While the married ones turn on a chat show
And they'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow

"Gentlemen, time please, you know we can't serve anymore"
Now the traffic lights change to stop, when there's nothing to go
And by five o'clock everything's dead, And every third car is a cab
And ignorant people sleep in their beds, Like the doped white mice in the College lab

And nothing ever happens ... nothing happens at all ...
The needle returns to the start of the song, And we all sing along like before
And we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow

Telephone Exchanges click while there's nobody there
The Martians could land in the car park and no one would care
Close-circuit cameras in Department stores shoot the same movie every day
And the stars of these films neither die nor get killed, Just survive constant action replay

And nothing ever happens ... nothing happens at all ...
The needle returns to the start of the song, And we all sing along like before
And we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow

And Bill Holdings advertise products that nobody needs
While 'Angry from Manchester' writes to complain about, All the repeats on T.V.
And computer terminals report some gains, On the values of copper and tin
While American businessmen snap up Van Goghs, For the price of a Hospital wing

And nothing ever happens ... nothing happens at all ...
The needle returns to the start of the song, And we all sing along like before ...

And nothing ever happens ... nothing happens at all ...
They'll burn down the Synagogues at six o'clock, And we'll all go along like before
And we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments Where do we go from here?
Where do we go from here? Where do we go from here?
Where do we go from here? Where do we go...?

They boarded up the synagogues. Uzis on a street corner.
You can't take a photograph of Uzis on a street corner.
The DJ resigned today: they wouldn't let him have his say.
Surface scratched where the needles play. Uzis on a street corner.
Where do we go from here?

Terror on the Rue de St Denis, murder on the periphery,
Someone else in someone else's pocket:
Christ knows I don't know how to stop it!
Poppies at the cenotaph, the cynics can't afford to laugh,
I heard in on the telegraph: there's Uzis on a street corner.
Where do we go from here? Where do we go from here?

The more I see, the more I hear, the more I find fewer answers.
I close my mind, I shout it out but you know it's getting harder...
To calm down, to reason out, to come to terms with what it's all about.
I'm uptight, can't sleep at night, I can't pretend everything's all right.
My ideals, my sanity, they seem to be deserting me
But to stand up and fight I know we have six million reasons.

They're burning down the synagogues. Uzis on a street corner.
The heralds of the holocaust. Uzis on a street corner.
The silence never louder than now. How quickly we forgot our vows.
This resurrection we can't allow: Uzis on a street corner.
Where do we go from here? Where do we go from here?

We buy fresh bagels from the corner store,
Where swastikas are spat from aerosols.
I sit in the bar sipping iced White Russian,
Trying to score but nobody's pushing.
And everyone looks at everyone's faces,
Searching for signs and praying for traces of a conscience in residence.
Are we sitting on a barbed wire fence,
Racing the clouds home? Racing the clouds home.

We place our faith in human rights
In the paper wars that tie the red tape tight.
I know that I would rather be out of this conspiracy,
In the gulags and internment camps. Frozen faces in nameless ranks:
I know that they would rather be standing here beside me,
Racing the clouds home. Racing the clouds home.

You can shut your eyes, you can hide it away. It's gonna come back another day.
Racing the clouds home. Are we racing the clouds home?
Racing the clouds home.

Martin O' | 2196 comments In the summer that my son was born
In the same unchanging town that fathered me
I retraced many steps trying to fit my own footsteps
Is it the truth perhaps there is no return?
Political lies, political promises
This shadow everywhere, the sense of powerlessness
And you and I left stumbling in their blindness
The blindness of Wall Street, Moscow and Whitehall
How many miles I walked by the Union Canal
Thinking of the hands that made it, the hands of the navies
Thinking of the patient horses that pulled along the barges
Whose tow ropes have worn grooves in the pillars of the bridges
And I thought this, "What rubs you, rubs me"
Political lies, political promises
This shadow everywhere, the sense of powerlessness
And you and I left waiting in the history
A history of mystery, a history of betrayal
All along the banks of the Union Canal
I walked in the flaming sunset of a summer's evening
Scottish skinhead, glue head, Scottish flag, the tune in his head
Looks at the sky and asks me, "What does it mean?"
Political lies, political promises
This shadow everywhere, the sense of powerlessness
And you and I left basking in the anguish
The anguish of those we have failed to hear
In the night I listen to my own darkness
I think that being born and dying have the same tax bases
I think about the signature of God on the prison
And about following sides and becoming lost again
Political lies, political promises
This shadow everywhere, the sense of powerlessness
And you and I left with the same old question
The sheer unspeakable strangeness of being here at all

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Lying here beside you in the shadows with your body close to mine
I can't help but wish that I could have you here beside me all the time
Knowing that I cannot keep you from your going when the day is done
Makes me wish that I was tall enough to reach the sky and stop the sun

But I can see the evening shadows slipping silent cross the floor
And I curse the day for coming to an end ...
You'll fix your face, comb your hair, and leave my arms once more
But when tomorrow comes ... we'll watch the evening shadows fall again

When we're here together, I don't question why you came or why you go?
I'm sure you have your reasons but your being here is all I have to know
Knowing when you come to me there's nothing I can do to make you stay
Just like all the other times you'll leave me at the ending of the day

But I can see the evening shadows slipping silent cross the floor
And I curse the day for coming to an end ...
You'll fix your face, comb your hair, and leave my arms once more
But when tomorrow comes ... we'll watch the evening shadows fall again

In private, 'cause each time I see you, I break down and cry
And walk on by (don't stop) ... And walk on by (don't stop) ...
And walk on by

I just can't get over losing you, And so if I seem broken and blue? ...
Walk on by ... walk on by ...
Foolish pride, Is all that I have left, So let me hide
The tears and the sadness you gave me, When you said goodbye
Walk on by (don't stop) ... Walk on by (don't stop) ...
Walk on by (don't stop) ... Walk on ...
