Dark/Alternative Music

I know you are still looking for new music, so here's another synthy darkwave track for you: You & Me & Infinity by Cold Cave.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa..."
Hi Helen, just listened to the Cold Cave song, 'You & Me & Infinity'. Liked the music but wasn't too keen on the vocals, especially the woman talking at the end. Was a good tune though.
Here's a song I was saving for the Cream of 2018 nominations but I think it fits nicely here. :-)
A Place To Bury Strangers - 'Never Coming Back' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rij8q...

A Place To Bury Strangers - 'Never...."
I was just listening to their new album, Pinned, the other day. I found it rather disappointing, a bit lacklustre and I'm not keen on the additional female vocals on this latest release. I think I prefer their earlier, noisier stuff.
"Never Coming Back" is one of the better tunes - I'm sure I mentioned it on the previous page? ;-)

Perspektive by Ash Code: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN5Ak...
Oh, you might like this too. It's quite synthy but not v dark and yet another track that screams "80s"! New album out now, I think, must get round to listening to it.
Computer Love by Vandal Moon: https://www.soundcloud.com/starfield-...
(Hope that link works.)

Interesting, Helen - it reminded me very much of New Order in parts ;o>

Yes Suzy, I can hear many influences including A Flock of Seagulls (I think) for some reason - prob just me!

Young One by Black Vase: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ql7u2qA...
Flimmern by Bruch: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6JoUHXv...
And some modern goth rock that sounds like old goth rock ;-)
Voykova by Golden Apes : https://www.soundcloud.com/accidentpr...

Repent Motherfucker by Acid Vatican: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GZv0Tfv...

I think the vid is from Ken Russell’s 1971 film “The Devils"?

Thrill Kill Kult - 'The Devil Does Drugs' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6n3s...

Not sure if I remember that one; it has a nice industrial beat but "Bono's" vocals spoil it. He does look a bit like Bono, doesn't he? ;-)
Yep, I really like that Acid Vatican track too. Here's another one by them, but it's not as good:-
Preacherman: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GQ5MA8h...

God Machine by VV & The Void: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAg-O...

This isn't particularly dark but worth a listen I think, reminds me of the Editors.
Talk To Her - 'Zodiac' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjxkC...

Really like that, Foe. Agree, they do sound like Editors who I’ve always liked. ;-)

Ha! Just listened to "Preacherman" again and I now hear exactly what you mean.
"Zodiac" is a tiny bit Editors-y but reminds me of someone else too, but can't think who!

Not a goth track but back to electronica from 1984, Experimental Products', 'Glowing In The Dark'. I think this is a really good song.

Re: Experimental P. Don't mind a bit of Italo style stuff. Dancy.

This is a track from Exploded View called 'Lost Illusions', it reminds me a bit of Joy Division's 'Heart And Soul'.

Sorry Foe, not keen on that one. It's a bit disjointed? (not sure what word I'm looking for).

That's cool, I think Exploded View are a bit of a marmite band to be fair.

Just had another listen and I think it might be the percussion that's setting me on edge.

The drummer is in time with the tune (most easily heard around the 2:30 mark where the other guy drops out briefly). Mr guitar is sometimes in time and other times he's playing across the rhythm. ;-)

He doesn't (or can't perhaps) keep it steady, so yeah, maybe needs to work on his technique a bit. ;-)

Disease X by Qual - https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...

Wouldn't have thought it was your kind of thing, Suzy, but glad you liked it. He released an album earlier this year if you're interested: The Ultimate Climax . I've not heard it yet, it's on "the list"!

I'll check the Album out, thanks Helen ;o>

Yeah that's a good one Helen! :-) I've had this one for a while but not sure that it fits on this thread.

Edit - O/T. I don't know about you, or anyone else who reads this thread, but I'm really pleased with the music that I've heard from 2018. We are halfway through, and I've already got over 10 songs for the Cream of 2018. I recently subscribed to AllMusic, and each week they send out an e-mail with their recommendations, (you probably know this anyway), so far they've been pretty good.

Find that one slightly dull, sorry. I actually have a couple of their earlier albums: Dead To Me and The New Life. I like both of them but haven't listened to any of their more recent stuff.

Yeah it was a rubbish track wasn't it, what was I thinking! ;-) When I first heard it I thought the vocals were pretty flat, but I did like the Cocteau Twins type beat.

Sorry Foe, didn't respond to your bit about music this year.
I have found lots of really good standalone tracks but I don't think I have found one particular standout album if the year yet......still waiting for that "wow" moment.
My favourite album so far is a reissue, so it probably doesn't count, but it is really excellent (too short tho'):
Sahrah - End of Data

Enjoyed the build up to this song, shame the song wasn't a bit longer.
Agree with you about standout tracks. My next nomination for the themes thread, the wildcard round, is from a band that to date have only released 2 songs. Actually quite excited about the Cream of... as I have 2 electronica songs lined up.
One from Death Grips, Smokey would have liked this.
Death Grips Is Online - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAna_...

I was going to go all electronica for "Cream of 2018" but have had to scrap that idea as lots of them aren't on YouTube. They sometimes appear on SoundCloud etc but then disappear.......😕

Looking forward to hearing their new album (out now).

I'd have put money on that! ;-)

"Cave" by HAPAX - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eVKA...
I'm not too keen on the vocals but do like the music.

Absolutely! I hope Mr Cold Cave doesn't take himself too seriously. That Selofan track & vid are straight out of the '80s too."
Yes, was going to say that. :-)
