Do review contests work?

I posted to several Goodreads groups a chance to win a Kindle Fire HD or $130 Amazon gift card for posting an honest review on Amazon. I ended up selling a lot of books (with the price dropped to $0.99 for the contest period), but only 5 people have entered the contest. You can get as many reviews just doing a standard book giveaway at a fraction of the cost.

Teresa, it's still early. It looks like you opened the contest on June 29th. It usually takes me at least two weeks to read an average sized book, so I wouldn't be surprised if you get more entrants toward the end of the contest. I just snagged a sample to see if it's up my ally. Good luck with the contest!
