NetGalley

Feed Your Readers, the NetGalley Challenge

Duration: Monthly

How to Participate:

The NetGalley Challenge is designed to not only get you to read your NetGalley books, but to also advertise your reviews for others to see because after all, that's what NetGalley is all about.

Though you may pop in/out at any time, the NetGalley Challenge will run on a monthly basis so you are able to see progress being made.

1. At the beginning of the month, post any/all of the following:
a: How many books on your NetGalley shelf
b: What books are on your NG shelf
c: What your Netgalley feedback ratio is

2. During the month, read the NetGalley books that you can AND update your post with your reviews. (You can do this after each book or wait until the end of the month.)

3. At the end of the month, update your post and with:
a: What books you read
b: Link(s) to your review(s)**
c: Your updated shelf count
d: Your updated books to read
e: Your updated ratio

Then start a new post for the next month!

But Wait, There's More

Do you ever get so caught up in your reading that you don't want to stop to write your reviews?

Thinking about that, it was decided we need a "Review Weekend", once each month, set aside to write those reviews you've been not doing in favor of reading!

Review Weekends will vary randomly each month and is meant to be a time set aside to review. Take one, or both days and get caught up on reviews so you can spend the rest of the month reading!!

The next Review Weekend is set for Nov 18/19

**When linking your reviews, please link only to the book(s) here at GoodReads. At this time, linking to a personal blog is not allowed. Thank you!

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Argh!!! Is anyone else having issues with publication dates being wrong on NetGalley?

In the last 24 hours I've discovered three books shown on my shelf with a 2018 publication are either already out or will be out within the next two weeks. It's totally scuppered my reading plan.

I only found out because I saw someone else post a review and thought they were really early.

message 18: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I just sent a note to the publisher for Always. I've tried starting it a couple of times and just never seem to be in the mood to read it. It's been on my shelf since January, so I let them know that I won't be reviewing it.

message 19: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I should really do that with a few of mine Kristie. I have books that have been on my shelf for more than 2 years and keep kidding myself I will read them at some point.

message 20: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I made it to 80% again yesterday. Must have lasted a whole 3 hours before another request was approved and I slipped back to 79 :D

message 21: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I’ve done it a couple of times, Alison. If you know you’re not going to read it, you might as well get it off your shelf.

message 22: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I keep thinking I'll get to them at some point.

And I've just added another book. Killman Creek the sequel to Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine is currently read now.

message 23: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Oh no... I hate adding a second book in a series before I read the first one. What if I don't like it? However...I do own Stillhouse Lake and Killman Creek is read now....

message 24: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Ok, so I added Killman Creek (Stillhouse Lake, #2) by Rachel Caine . I couldn't resist. I figure I'll read the first one and if I love it I'll be happy that I have the second one. If I don't like it, I can just inform the publisher.

Silje (sikna) | 1443 comments I had a crazy run and ended up having 15 new books added to my NG-shelf at the end of October so my feedback ratio dropped into the lower 20ies =(
At the moment I have 12 titles on the shelf and a ratio of 33% since I've done two reviews this month already (and two in october), links are below.

Current on shelf
Diamond Girl (G-Man, #1) by Andrea Smith Forgotten Violets by Martin Niewood Silken Desires (Silken Edge, #2) by Laci Paige Fire and Bone (Otherborn #1) by Rachel A. Marks Yes Means Yes by Steven M. message 26: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Two reviews posted in the last couple of days and I'm back to 80% again...yay!!!

I do still have four requests pending though so if any of them come through it'll be gone again :( I really need to get up to 82 or 83% to give myself a bit of headroom.

Just out of curiosity, when I was submitting my reviews it asked me to connect up my social media including GoodReads. Has anyone done this? I have but now wondering how wise it was as it looks like they can send tweets from you, check followers etc.

message 27: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments You really are teetering on that 80% brink, Alison! lol Glad you made it over again.

I saw an email saying they were offering linking accounts as a way to post one review and have it post everywhere. I have not done it yet. I'm not sure if I will.

message 28: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments I'm not going to be connecting any of mine as I don't think Netgalley should be able to post on my behalf, plus I don't agree with some of the permissions it asks for on some of the sites.

The biggest downside of them adding the Social Accounts section is that I can no longer list my Goodreads profile as my primary site. They removed it when they added the Social Accounts section and the site doesn't let me re-add it, but instead tells me to connect via the Social Accounts. Really annoying considering I only review on GR.

message 29: by Alison (new)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments It did ask for a lot of permissions when connecting to Twitter which made me wary but then I only really use Twitter for book stuff and don't have it linked to my personal social media.

I get the feeling the GoodReads connection is a bit different and it's so it can cross post reviews from NetGalley more than anything. I have to admit I usually do it the other way round. Review here and copy to NetGalley.

message 30: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments I don’t like that at all. I also use my GR page as my main page for reviewing. I don’t want them posting it to GR. I post here first, then copy over there. I sometimes use html or book/author links in my GR reviews and have to edit for NetGalley.
