I tend to listen to music, or go for a run when I'm struggling with a certain scene or a chapter. Sometimes I'll go back and read a previous chapter or scene, review my outline or just switch to another project for a day to give me a break so I can go back to it with a clear mind.

Researching spider bites in Ontario (Canada) was interesting and super gross--there were more visuals on spider bites than I would ever care to see.

The ferret research was fun--and how I discovered they're illegal to have as pets in NYC!

When I wrote Clipped Wings I did a lot of research on tattooing over scar tissues, and that was also eye opening.

Helena Hunting (helenahunting) | 134 comments Sophie wrote: "Who is your favourite character from all your books & why? Thank you!"

That's a difficult question to answer, I love them all for very different reasons. I think since Hayden was my first, he will always hold a special place in my heart.

But Violet is my favourite female character--I loved making her absolutely filterless.

Thank you! That's one heck of a trip, but it's on my bucket list!

Helena Hunting (helenahunting) | 134 comments Heather wrote: "How do the ideas fir you books come to you? Do the characters come fullt formed?"

I usually start with a scene and then go from there. I'll have an idea, write the scene from one person's POV and then build the hero and the heroine from there. It's about finding what compliments the flaws in each character and how they help each other grow.

Helena Hunting (helenahunting) | 134 comments Caroline wrote: "Who are you favourite authors? And, do you have plans to come to the UK soon?"

I have such a long list of favourite authors, Debra Anastasia, EL James, Liv Morris, Ruth Clampett, Katherine Stevens, Penelope Douglas, Penelope Ward, Vi Keeland, SM Lumetta, JM Darhower, LJ Shen, Daisy Prescott, Tijan, K. Bromberg, Melanie Harlow. There's more . . . I'll have to come back to this list.

I have tentative plans to visit the UK again in 2019.

Sunny had the baby in Pucked Off, but that would be a super cute short!

I think if you like romantic comedies, Shacking Up and The Librarian Principle are complete standalones, Pucked is also a standalone and the first book in a series, are all good places to start.

Clipped Wings and Inked Armor are an angsty duet and Fractures in Ink is a spin off standalone.

Violet, hands down. But if I was one of the guys I'd be Randy, lol.

Helena Hunting (helenahunting) | 134 comments Heather wrote: "Helena, helloooo!

I sure have, and it would be Debra Anastasia because we have weird imaginations and she's my writing bestie. I have a lot of projects currently on the go, and so does Deb, but hopefully we'll have a chance to put something down at some point together. I also have some ideas that I'd like to toss around with the hubs, but those will have to wait for a while.

message 43: by Helena (new)

Helena Hunting (helenahunting) | 134 comments Heather wrote: "What has been the scariest part about becoming a full time author?"

Probably the lack of stability. I went from having a full time job that was nice and secure to one that requires me to very self directed and disciplined. I'm bad at down time, so I tend to feel compelled to work all the time.

message 44: by Helena (new)

Helena Hunting (helenahunting) | 134 comments Trudy wrote: "Have you ever thought about writing stories involving a different sport?"

Definitely, I have some plans, but those are a little ways off into the future, and depend a lot on my current projects.

Darren and Charlene will have a book in 2018, but I have no other books planned directly in the Pucked series after that.

I have a plan for an outtakes books and I agree that a pregnant Violet would be absolutely ridiculous!

message 49: by Helena (new)

Helena Hunting (helenahunting) | 134 comments Nicole wrote: "What are you working on now?"

I'm currently working on three separate projects, two are in the edit stage (I FLIPPING LOVE YOU) is one of them. The other two have yet to be announced, but hopefully will be soon!

Helena Hunting (helenahunting) | 134 comments Nora wrote: "Do you laugh along with your writing or do you write a scene then read read it back and think damn I'm so hilarious! ?"

Sometimes I go back and look at what I've written and laugh, and then wonder if I'm the only one who will find it funny.
