I hav just finished chapter 50 and can add no more to Melissa's answers. I also do not remember Mr Woodcourt mentioning a profession as dangerous. Maybe he was referring to the army when Richard was about to sign up?

Poor George. It's too bad Ada fell for Richard, because George would have been a better husband, even though both men are unlucky.
