Sara You could borrow from a person, a library or even one of those little lending libraries! If you are lucky enough to have people in your life that gift you with books (and with the holidays right around the corner) maybe you'll get a nice surprise gift to use for this one!

Kenya Starflight | 986 comments My sister frequently loans me audiobooks so I have something to listen to while I exercise. If I don't get a book for Christmas this year, I may go with that option.

message 3: by Alta (new)

Alta | 20 comments I am part of another Goodreads group that does a "Secret Santa" book and e-book exchange. I will pencil in whatever book I am gifted this year.

message 4: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Jerris | 42 comments oh yes!! You can just check out whatever you want to read from the library!!

message 5: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments My brother has given me a few books that I haven’t gotten to yet. And a friend gifted me A House for Mr Biswas.

message 6: by Megan (new)

Megan | 361 comments I'm going to do Matriarch: Queen Mary and the House of Windsor
I got it for a Christmas gift.

message 7: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments I'll go for a book that I got as a gift, otherwise it would essentially be a free choice category for me since I borrow the majority of my books from the library. Lucky for me, my birthday was 2 weeks ago and I got some books as gifts!

message 8: by Lindi (new)

Lindi (lindimarie) I'll leave this open as I'm sure to have someone lend me a book over the next year.

I love prompts like this :D

message 9: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 231 comments Any library book could count for this! I was lucky enough to win 2 advanced reader copies this year: Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney and Good Me, Bad Me by Ali Land. Would winning a book count for this prompt?

message 10: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments I just got Big Little Lies for Christmas!

message 11: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 231 comments 95% of my books come from the library so that would be cheating, but I got Stalking The Unicorn in a White elephant exchange for Christmas. I'm so excited about it.

message 12: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 13 comments I read Claude’s Christmas Adventure which I was given as a Christmas present in 2016.

message 13: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments Ooh I just realized; I was going to use one of the many library books I read for this but I got fantastic beasts last year for Christmas and didn’t read it yet!!

Jenn (jenncompton) | 36 comments I got Winter Solstice by Elin Hildebrand from the library for this challenge

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 3 comments I decided on Griffin & Sabine: an extraordinary correspondence because my friend gave me this a few years ago and I never got around to reading it. I will admit I also chose it because it is a quick read! Trying to get some momentum going.

message 18: by Torie (new)

Torie (wanderingtorie) | 21 comments I'll be using Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil for this prompt, too. That's three prompts that I've checked off with this book so far.

message 21: by SadieReadsAgain (new)

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments I finished my book for this prompt! I didn't want to use a borrowed book as I really only borrow from the library, and as I want to do this challenge without buying any new books I'll be borrowing from the library a lot! So I was really pleased when my mum got me Big Little Lies for Christmas.

I loved this! I just wanted to read it all in one sitting. It's funny, because at first I was a bit worried it was chick-lit. But there is a deeper core to this book, tackling issues that I wasn't expecting. And I think it did so in a respectful way, if not necessarily always a realistic one. I loved how the story built up whilst all the time teasing you with the climax. I thought the characters were all likeable or detestable as appropriate, and I really enjoyed the humour. Probably being the parent of a five year old helped me really tune in to the kindergarten drama the book revolves around!

I'm excited to finally see the tv adaptation now.

Cyndy (cyndy-ksreader) | 133 comments I read I Could Pee on This: And Other Poems by Cats by Francesco Marciuliano. I borrowed it from the Amazon Prime lending library. This was a cute little book of poems written from the cat's perspective!

message 23: by Kim (new)

Kim Erickson (madtroll) | 1 comments My friend from the UK sent me this for Christmas. Great perspective on politics in the US from a UK point of view. If Only They Didn't Speak English: Notes From Trump's America

message 24: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (trickpony1820) | 68 comments I'm going for my Specialist certification at work and the course for it has recommended reading which isn't available on Amazon (per my coworker), so I joined our city's library in hopes they or their inter-library loan program can get the books. Since I'm not ready to start studying yet, I'm borrowing some books from them that I've wanted to read.
The first library book I read that didn't fit any other category, and thus counts toward this one was Britt-Marie Was Here

message 25: by The Chapter Conundrum (Stacey) (last edited Feb 04, 2018 11:48AM) (new)

The Chapter Conundrum (Stacey) | 404 comments I got a gift certificate for my local used bookstore in my stocking so I'm totally counting whatever I choose there as a book I got as a gift! :)

message 29: by Serendipity (new)

Serendipity | 146 comments Zits was given to me (mother of teen boys) a while back. Good for a wry smile or two.

message 30: by Ian (new)

Ian (iansreads) A friend of mine was given the book The Girl With All the Gifts, but she asked me to read it first as she is not a zombie lover and wanted me to let her know if she'd like it. As a zombie lover, I have to say I loved this book, but it does get into the science of the zombies a little more than I think a non-zombie or non-science reader would like.

message 31: by Storm (new)

Storm | 60 comments I used The Silver Chair for this one

message 32: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 231 comments I just borrowed the brand new The Death of Mrs Westaway by Ruth Ware from the library so I’m using that one. I can’t wait to start it.

message 33: by Dani (new)

Sally | 30 comments I have borrowed Heavenly Man by Paul Hathaway for this prompt.

message 35: by Diane (new)

Diane Lupton | 136 comments A Fall of Marigolds - 5 stars - highly recommend
Heart breaking, compassionate, sad, hope, betrayal, and love are all words I would use to describe this book.

message 36: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 49 comments I am reading Complete Stories of Hercule Poirot by Agatha Christie, which I received as a Christmas gift. I read a few stories in between other books, so am working my way through it slowly.

message 37: by Anshita (last edited Aug 02, 2018 10:12AM) (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 270 comments I have decided to read Go Tell It on the Mountain by James Baldwin. I have been a Balwin fan since I read Giovanni's Room and watched several documentaries about him. I've been aching to read more since then and now I've finally borrowed it to read for this prompt.
