Crumb | 395 comments My favorite color is purple.. would this book work:
Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave ?

Would grape be considered a variation on the color purple?

"grape" is a color (at least according to the Dharma Trading Co Procion fabric dye I have), but "grapes" is a noun. So, since it's plural, that makes it dicey. They aren't using it to mean the color, so you have to decide if it works for you or not. In 2017 for "month or day" a lot of people used titles that had "March" or "July" and so on in the title when those were being used to mean other things, so there is precedent for ignoring the title's meaning and just using the word in the title to fulfill the category.

Thanks, Nadine.. I am just having trouble finding a book that interests me.. at the same time, I don't want to cheat.

Crumb | 395 comments I think I found something that could work for purple:
The Secret Life of Violet Grant by Beatriz Williams
UPDATE!!

Found something PERFECT!! I've been wanting to read this one for quite some time .. and it just clicked! My favorite color is purple.. I think for this challenge I am going to read:
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly

Amber | 33 comments Just noticed In the Great Green Room: The Brilliant and Bold Life of Margaret Wise Brown, seems like it would be an interesting read.

Amber.. that would be a good one.. not only does it have the color green in the title.. but brown, too.

Rebecca wrote: "How do I choose this prompt if I don't actually have a favorite color? Any suggestions?"

It's up to you! You can either read any book with a color in the title that looks good, or you can choose a color of clothing that you tend to wear often and look for that.

message 109: by AK (new)

AK | 7 comments I'll reread Eyes of a blue dog, by Gabriel García Márquez, but in the PT-BR version (Olhos de cão azul).

This was the first book I read from Gabo <3

Laura • lauralovestoread | 101 comments Pink is truly my fave and teal/mint green as a second but hard to find those colors in books so I’m going with blue. Shades of Blue

message 111: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments Just wanted to throw out an option.. Hyacinth Girls by Lauren Frankel

I think Hyacinth can be in blue or purple.. so If anyone is wanting another option for those colors.. there ya go!

message 112: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 77 comments Hmmm...I'm not finding any books with pink in the title that appeal to me. I think I'm going to choose something with black instead.

Black Beauty
The Woman in Black
My Heart and Other Black Holes
Black Dogs
Black Water Lilies
The Black Tulip

Nicole | 77 comments Stephanie wrote: "fave colour is white so the original Snow White could work. any other suggestions?"

I enjoyed Shades of Grey, but it's definitely different than Fforde's other work and wasn't strongly received. So even though it was meant to be the start of a series, another book hasn't been written and doesn't look like it will be.

That said, I really found it an interesting world and made me a think, as the way color is used is definitely a metaphor.

message 115: by Anabell (new)

Anabell | 355 comments Kirsten Gier have written
Ruby Red
Sapphire Blue
Emerald Green
I am trying to fit them in to several prompts so I can read all 3 this year. Got them recommended but have no idea if they are any good.

message 116: by Nadine in NY (new)

Nadine in NY Jones | 9693 comments Mod
Gier's series is about time travel so you can use that for any, plus a book in a series you've started for another, and ... I do t know? Is one of those your favorite color?

message 117: by CallMeSensei (new)

CallMeSensei | 12 comments Blue is mine. I have only a single book with blue in the title... so I guess that's what I'm reading! The Bluest Eye

Meredith (mcgraced) | 53 comments Thanks, Nadine.. I am just having trouble finding a book that interests me.. at the same time, I don't want to cheat.

I'd say it's only cheating if your interpretation makes it so. Me? If pink were my favorite color, I'd be fine with a word like Pinkerton being in the title as fitting the prompt.

But I likely run rather rogue. :)

Anabell | 355 comments Nadine wrote: "Gier's series is about time travel so you can use that for any, plus a book in a series you've started for another, and ... I do t know? Is one of those your favorite color?"

My plan so far is:
favourite color = blue
Aliteration = Not sure if Ruby Red would work for this one.
Or use
Timetravel (just saw that one today)
next in a series or borrowed (overdrive) = Green

There is a lot of wild cards this year so might do favorite prompt from 2015, 2016, 2017 (doing all 3 so I reach 52 books)

It really is a puzzle sometimes. I have so many series I want to finish that I am trying to fit in the challenge...

Thanks for great suggestions :-)

A lot of people seem to feel that way about that book! it's one of those books that I know I'm eventually going to try to read someday, but ... not this year!

If you search for "orange" in the Search Books field, a lot of books pop up. I haven't read any of them so I can't exactly recommend one, but I'm sure you can find an interesting book that way!

You are one of the lucky few who gets to read any book with a color (any color) in the title!

I don't have a favorite color either... some colors I hate... like orange, some colors I am so so about... but nothing that is a favorite.

SadieReadsAgain (sadiestartsagain) | 767 comments I wouldn't say I have a favourite colour, so I'm using this as an excuse to get another book off my TBR shelves. I have White Oleander, but I'm going to go with Aquamarine as it's shorter (and god knows I need all the help I can get at reading 40+ books in a year!). I like the colour too.

If you are interested in manga, Orange: The Complete Collection, Volume 1 was my choice - super fast read.

Happy to find another orange lover!

The Emerald Atlas
The Fire Chronicle (fire red?)
The Black Reckoning

Also I´m one of the people who don´t have a favourite colour... All the choices!!
