Sara As an animal lover I think this one won't be a problem for me. The animal kingdom is pretty darn large after all.

message 2: by Heather (new)

Heather | 69 comments I have several on my tbr with animals in title: Turtles All the Way Down, Lord of the Flies, even more

message 7: by Alta (new)

Alta | 20 comments There is a Kindle deal today on a book called Rabbit Cake

message 8: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Starflight | 986 comments Lily and the Octopus -- and yes, I know the title is not referring to a literal octopus. Still counting it. XD

message 9: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 273 comments If I don't read Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal before year end, I'll probably read it for this prompt.

message 10: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 387 comments I read The Bees and Like a Mule Bringing Ice Cream to the Sun this year, and liked both of them enough to recommend.

Six of Crows is in my TBR and I already own the audiobook, so that's probably what I'll go with.

The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break
The Minotaur Takes His Own Sweet Time

LOL! I like this idea, because I've been meaning to read "The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break"!! (And, while I love animals, I'm finding myself a bit stumped for this category, to my surprise.)

message 17: by Charline (new)

Charline (charline84) | 29 comments Not sure if it's been mentioned butWhen God Was a Rabbit is a pretty good book.

I'm using a dragon for this prompt. I figure even a mythological animal is still an animal in spirit.

Fannie D'Ascola | 438 comments Didn't know it was translated: Empire of the Ants.

It's a good one.

message 27: by Naina (new)

Naina (naynay55) | 113 comments I was gifted H is for Hawk a few years ago and haven't had the chance to read it yet, so I think I'll be going with that for this prompt!

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments I'm planning to read The Last Unicorn for this challenge, so another vote here for mythological animals being included.

I thought about using The Goose Girl, but I'll bue using that for the alliterative prompt instead.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe would also count. (As well as the later book, The Horse and His Boy--you could actually knock out a lot of prompts using the Narnia series since The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is set at sea.)

message 30: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenlibrarian00) | 12 comments If you are interested in psychology/nonfiction, The Invisible Gorilla: And Other Ways Our Intuitions Deceive Us looks good (and what I will be using for this prompt!).

The Goose Girl is fabulous *and* it is the first book of a great series. If you like Fantasy YA/Teen books and/or fairy tale adaptations, this is a good pick.

Karen (karenlibrarian00) | 12 comments One book that I haven't seen mentioned yet is The Serpent Garden by Judith Merkle Riley. It is a fun (and funny) historical fiction book with a strong female protagonist, fantastical elements, and a dash of romance.

message 33: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 387 comments Ooh - that reminds me! The Essex Serpent is really good if you like more literary fiction. A great main character, beautiful writing, and an interesting take on Victorian times.

I love both of those categories, AND usually enjoy Shannon Hale's writing so I'm not sure how it's taken me this long to read it!

message 37: by Rachael (last edited Nov 14, 2017 04:52PM) (new)

Rachael Kay (doctorpeeves) | 31 comments The Spider in the Corner of the Room by Nikki Owen is another option, or The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog: And Other Stories from a Child Psychiatrist's Notebook by Bruce D. Perry (haven't read it myself yet, I imagine it is going to be quite upsetting)

message 39: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (danimgill) | 45 comments If you're into comics/graphic novels I've been enjoying the Rat Queens series! I'll probably read whatever volume I'm on next by 2018. Link to the first one: Rat Queens, Vol. 1: Sass & Sorcery
