Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments It’s says Dark Tower #3 in the title of the thread. Shouldn’t it be The Wasteland’s for November?

message 5: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Same thing Nancy LOL, So what are your thoughts on the Wastelands Roland has finally started showing a sense of humor and fun even showing some emotion.

message 6: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments I am behind and starting Drawing of the Three tonight but The Wastelands is one of my favorites of all the books in the series.

I can’t see or here the name Blaine and not think he is a pain!

message 7: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments I think he is more of a pain then he is in pain.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1115 comments I could the Waste Lands very engaging. Although the ending was not very desirable, I was really into the story by the end.

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments I kind of thought the ending in the Waste Lands gives you a pause to take a breath with a welcome break. The book had a lot of excellent scenes and the feeling that the dread is that on the horizon... I’ll be picking up with the next book sometime next year..,

message 11: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Wizards and Glass is next and I will be reading it along with Carrie and Insurgent next month. I will also be reading a book called Never Night.

message 12: by Anita (new)

Anita This book! Loved every second of it! Loved the ending!

message 13: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Anita so tell me who is your favorite character, or do I really need to ask LOL.

The Drawing of the Three is Book #2 and there is already a thread for it and it was October’s book. The thread is here:

Pamela Swinford | 17 comments Someone asked about favorite character earlier so I thought I’d jump in with sharing my favorite. I absolutely adore Eddie Dean...seeing him progress from an addict to one bad hombre while still retaining that quick wit never gets old. Like when Roland explains certain unpleasant incidents that the tet experience as ka to which Eddie informs Roland that his idea of ka, with a sneering sarcasm, in Eddie’s opinion is “kaka”. Of course then Eddie has to explain to Roland that in his ka, kaka is shit. Lmao cracks me up every time no matter how many times I’ve read this series. Roland of course has a hard time grasping Eddie’s brand of humor because let’s face it, Roland has very little, and coupled with the language gap leaves Roland a bit bewildered. If Roland hadn’t had Cuthbert as a friend growing up and come to realize that Eddie was like Bert despite not always getting the slang Eddie uses, I think Roland could have easily found offense with Eddie and cheerfully blown his head off.

mrbooks | 1469 comments Ok here is me two cents worth, Detta/Odetta that is one MEAN and it mean MEAN woman. You never ever want to meet either of those women on the street. your life would be in jeopardy no matter which one you get.

message 20: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Power (nicolepower) | 295 comments Pamela, I agree- Eddie is also my favorite! He really comes so far as a character. He’s in such agony from withdrawals in book 2 and he pretty much hates Roland, but keeps him alive. He falls for Odetta pretty instantly, but the evolution of his becoming Roland’s family was slower and I think so much better for it.

As an aside, re-reading “It” earlier this year cemented Richie as my favorite of the adult Losers because he is honestly so literally like Eddie in a scene-I think they both hysterically laughed at almost certain death (Blaine and Pennywise) until they made death uncomfortable. I adore them always.

message 21: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Swinford | 17 comments I see what you mean Nicole, with Eddie and Ritchie who is also my favorite character from it. I guess I’ve always related to the characters that have that sarcastic wit as it so closely resembles my own humor. Something Stephen has always written so well.

Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments I just got to this book last night. I’m anxiously waiting for Jake’s arrival and Blaine.

Are we skipping Wizard and Glass for December and reading it in January? I’m behind anyway so it doesn’t matter to me. I didn’t see a thread for it.

message 23: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments no never skip lol delay maybe but never skip. Most of us are already reading Wizard and Glass

message 24: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments Someone needs to setup a thread for it.

I meant skipping the month to a different month. Maybe because of the holidays etc.

I am up to Jake getting home after being truant....

Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments So, my 1993 Signet First Printing paperback edition of The Wastelands is looking pretty sad. This is the 4th time I have read it and it looks like it. I was at Half Price Books today and on the shelf was a copy of the Plume 1993 large paperback with all of the gorgeous artwork. I bought it. It looks brand new and the spine doesn’t even have any creases in it.

There was also a copy of The Drawing of the Three so I got that one as well. It doesn’t look like it has ever been read either. I am going to look for a copy The Gunslinger too.

Good thing I own a hardcover of Wizard and Glass already.

;)

Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments I forgot all about the Trashcan Man reference.

message 31: by Tammira (new)

Tammira | 8 comments The best section of the book for me was the middle, specifically (view spoiler)

It's hard to decide whether I liked this book better or Drawing of the Three because in DotT the absurdity of what was occurring made the book so exciting (The Gunslinger was dull compared to DotT and the Wastelands) but the Wastelands IMO is where we see this ka-tet began to become cohesive on their path to the Tower.

message 32: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 1469 comments Yes the Ka-tet of 5, seven if you count all three of Susannah LOL.

message 33: by Jay (new)

Jay Snyder | 1 comments Just started on #3. I can’t believe the difference between my dislike for The Gunslinger and my love of The Drawing of Three.

Aliens, The Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2, Doctor Sleep, The Drawing of Three.

Can’t wait to dig into the series after the major upturn.

message 34: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 163 comments My favorite book of the series so far! I loved this one. I thought The Drawing of the Three was much better than The Gunslinger, well, this one was even better!

I really got into it when we met Jake again. I love all the characters, and it just seems complete.

The ending was done well. It's not complete, but that makes you anxious for the next book. Speaking of the next book, I have a question. The first three books I bought were newer, they were the updated versions. I already owned the 4th, Wizard and Glass, and it's not an updated version. Is there that much of a difference? Should I wait and try to find a new version of the 4th one?

message 35: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (paper_addict) | 942 comments Wait, what.....I thought only The Gunslinger he had made changes. Are the other books actually updated (changes made to the text) or just new covers and re-published????

message 36: by Jenny (new)

Jenny a.k.a....Jenny from the block | 725 comments As far as I know only the gunslinger was revised for the story

Well, they all had the introduction about revising the story, so maybe I just assumed he updated more than one. Apparently, they are saying he only did The Gunslinger, so my copy should be fine then. Thanks for helping everyone!
