Chapter 5-10
(view spoiler)[Ah I love Tyrion's wisdom and sarcasm. He's one of my favorite character.
And damn, GOT made me so indifferent to witnessing incest. That makes me feel weird.
Also, I always remembered as Caitlyn being a good mother and person so I'm always surprised by her hate towards Jon. It isn't his fault he's a bastard (hide spoiler)]

I read today's chapter but can't find to comment them. Will do that tomorrow morning.

Chapters 5-9

(view spoiler)[I'm not a huge fan of Bran in the TV show or the books really, but you can't deny how iconic that chapter and that fall is. It sets into motion a lot of the plot and it's definitely a moment that makes you wake up and take notice.

I've always kinda hated Catelyn Stark, purely because of her hate towards Jon Snow. Far enough, if your husband returned from war with a baby he said was his bastard, you'd have some resentment towards that child, but she's evil towards him, man.

Chapters 10-15

(view spoiler)[Interesting to see Tyrion's perspective on his brother and sister, and to see his thoughts on what happened. I loved the scene where he slaps Joffrey. So great.

Again, Catelyn being unfairly cruel to Jon, saying that it should have been Jon who had been hurt. Just awful. And then Jon lying to Robb and saying she was kind to him. No wonder he wants to get away to the Wall.

Funny how the TV show changed certain things (again I'm making comparisons and I should stop, but I can't!). Like the first time Dany has sex with Khal Drogo. In the show, it's portrayed as not being very consensual, but here it started off being him feeling her up and her saying no, but then wanting him. A touch rapey, but not full on rape like in the tv show.

Chapter 10-15

From Robert's character I can tell that even if Lyanna was alive she wouldn't be happy with him.

I enjoy the relationship between Tyrion and Jon a lot. They're so similar in their position but unlike Jon Tyrion embraces his flaws fully. Him slapping Joffrey and making him behave sure cracks me up, I imagine happily his handprint on that bastard's face

Also, I like the changes from the show. I'd welcome even the change of stories altogether as I always believe that it's always better written in a book than on the screen :P

Chapter 16-20

I'm so sad for Lady, that damn Cersei is really a b*tch. Also, Sansa is just a spoiled brat and she's so cringy. She overthinks everything and thinks life's a fairy-tale. Well it will be a fun journey I guess. Bran dreaming to fly sure is trippy and I really like hoe he named the direwolf, Summer.

So Catelyn has arrived before Ned and met with Littlefinger and Varys and they in turn aimed her towards the Imp. If Catlyn knows that Littlefinger is really sly, why doesn't she think about it more?

Also, I wonder what Benjen was doing at the wall? I don't think he as a Stark didn't anything that isn't honorable at least. And hence he probably joined them on his own. And damn, Jon got served by the blacksmith haha, it was fun to read that part.

Littlefinger teasing Ned about his wife being in the brothel is sure funny as heck. I was laughing so hard

Chapters 16-20

(view spoiler)[God I hate Joffrey. F*ck that kid man. I struggle to see why Sansa was so into him??

Also, how cruel of them to kill Sansa's direwolf and Mycah. The Lannister's evilness is beginning to show.

Ahh the infamous Littlefinger makes his debut. Catelyn's story about him fighting Brandon Stark because he had what he wanted just sums Littlefinger up to a tee. Although he's a lot more discreet about getting what he wants.

Also can't stand Ser Alliser Thorne. The very definition of a bully. Evil man.

Chapters 21-25

Tyrion sure can be a jester when he wants to. His "face-slapping" sure made me laugh

When I read Arya's POV I always remember how much I like that character. She's different, wild as a wolf and does what she wants.
I remember reading some of Martin's early ideas for this series. Apparently he wanted to hook up Jon and Arya somehow, that would be...weird

I still need to get used to the idea of Daenerys being pregnant as a 14 year old. And all the romance with Drogo suddenly is just feeling weird.

A rather weird question, but why can't Bran lay with women?

Chapters 21-25

(view spoiler)[And Ned Stark meets the infamous Littlefinger. I love the friction between them. Ned knows what's up. He knows not to trust this man. I feel like poor Ned has been thrown into the deep end in regards to being Robert's Hand. The crown is how much debt???? Good luck Ned, you're gonna need it!

I love how laidback Tyrion is at the moment. He just wants to get drunk and have sex and read a few books. Honestly, with all the shit going on in this world, who can blame him? He had a great quote about how we need to laugh at ourselves every once in a while to stop taking ourselves so seriously, and I think he's so right. Ser Alliser is such a hateful man, that it's great to see Tyrion push his buttons and rile him up a bit.

I'm so sick of Sansa's whining and complaining. Just stop being such a little brat all of the time!!

It was nice of Ned to hire Syrio to teach Arya to sword fight. Most fathers would be angry that their 9-year old daughter had a sword, but it was good of Ned to recognise that Arya is never going to be a Sansa, so she needs to be encouraged in other areas. He might be the only truly good person in the whole Kingdom. He's like the perfect person to be King, and the one person that wants the job the least.

Again, I hate Viserys. Hate hate hate him. I'm sick of the whole 'you're gonna wake the dragon' bullshit. Dude, just chill out. I loved how even Dany is sick of his shit and is like take his horse away and make him walk.

I was totally on board with Dany and Khal Drogo making love outside, and them falling in love with each other, and it's cute, and now she's pregnant, yay. And then that last sentence of the chapter. Holy shit, I did not realise she was so young!! 14 years old?!?!? It's not looking so cute now.

Nice of Tyrion to inspire Bran, and give them the idea of making a saddle so he can ride horses. If he wanted to kill Bran, would he be so kind to him? I think not. But then again, he's a Lannister and people might think he's just covering his tracks.

Chapters 26-30

(view spoiler)[So many eyes in King's Landing. It's almost like you can't trust anyone! Also, I feel like Littlefinger saying to Ned that distrusting him is the wisest thing he's ever done is foreshadowing..

Sam's story is so tragic. That fact that his own father could say to him, either you abandon your family and titles and go far away up North where you almost certainly will die or him and his friends could hunt him and kill him, is just horrific. What a complete monster of a man.

Ah, so Ned is on the trail of discovering what Jon Arryn was up to before he died. And we've discovered that the King has a bastard, young Gendry. I can't see this ending well...

Catelyn must be doing some miles on her crusade. One minute she's down here, the next she's up there. Cannot keep with her journey haha! Oh, and no-one's seen her or recognised her yet??

Holy shit! What are the chances that Tyrion walks into the same inn Catelyn was in? Not looking good for him after she announces that he tried to kill Bran. Surely she knows that the Lannisters are cunning and wouldn't intentionally set themselves up to be caught. I bet it was Cersei that gave the dagger to the would-be killer to try and frame Tyrion.

Urgh. Littlefinger is such a creeper.

I understand that the Hound is probably very pissed off about having to take so much shit from Joffrey, but I don't think he has to take it out on Sansa. The story about how he got his burnt face was horrific. He's also kind of a tragic character.

Saying that, this book is full of tragedy and misery, and I love it!

Chapters 26-30

From the start of the book it can be seen that Eddard doesn't belong to King's Landing. He would be a good general, a good leader of a folk he knows but somewhere where everyone looks for their interest he seems...too noble

Also, Gendry is somewhat different than in the show. I can't tell why though, he just seems bolder and I bet he'll be way different than in the series. (He probably won't be rowing for a couple books like he rowed in the series probably)

First I thought that the Mountain killed that knight 'cause he just wanted it, but now it seems that it's under orders.

"My son was lying, I’d stake my soul on it. My son…you love your children, don’t you?”
Apparently even Robert said that he didn't like his own children. He definitely isn't king material, maybe he was a warrior but that is it . Though I really would like to read a prequel book, just the battle on the Trident, more of Rhaegar and everyone would be awesome.

Chapters 31-35

(view spoiler)[Varys is another person that I'm on the fence about trusting. As with Littlefinger, he's very sneaky and if he doesn't know something, it's not worth knowing. He also likes stirring the pot which is exactly what he's doing by telling Ned about the squire and Jon Arryn. Sneaks everywhere!

That was some fight scene! I like that Tyrion brings some much needed comic relief. Also, I spy the beginning of a beautiful friendship between him and Bronn. I love their bromance in the show.

Oh I wonder who the people in the crypt were? Was one of them Varys? I'm trying to flick back and see how he was described in previous chapters to see if it's him or not.

I think Robert has been so used to people telling him what he wants to hear and god help anyone who gets in his way. I don't think he liked Ned standing up to him, but in the long run, he'll respect him more. But to order the murder of a pregnant 14 year old girl? That's harsh, man.

Why has Catelyn got such a problem with bastards? Does she really hate all bastards because her husband has one? I think the system they have of giving the bastards surnames based on where they're from. It's interesting how each area has a different name for them.

Lysa seems... unstable? I don't know if it's from the stress of having so many miscarriages and stillborn babies that she's cracked a bit and is very overprotective with her son, but she's making a rod for her own back, I think.

Tyrion wanting to shout "Castely Rock" alongside "Winterfell!" in battle made me laugh so much that I can't even explain why.

If only Eddard listened to Arya, why does everyone thing that whatever a kid says is nonsense. But I agree with Ned on not killing Daenerys, that is just wile. And I'm kinda sad for Jory, I liked that minor character :P (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 36-40

(view spoiler)[Noooooooo, not Jory! The only man that Ned could trust and Jaime had him slaughtered. It's a sad day today.

Viserys is such a horrible man. I feel like everytime he shows, I write a comment about how much I hate him, but I really do hate him. Fuck that guy, honestly.

That was a tricky situation with Bran. I thought he was almost a goner again!

I loved the moment where Tyrion was like yeah I'll confess my crimes and then switched it on them and confessed all the bad things he's done, but he didn't do what he was accused of. He was also a bit sneaky in demanding a trial by combat then expecting them to get Jaime there to defend him. Thankfully Bronn has stepped forward.

Also, how terrifying do those cells sound? Could you imagine being in room missing a wall that overlooks the edge of the Eyrie which is heavens know how many feet tall??

Well.. that was a tense meeting between Ned, Robert and Cersei. Especially when Robert hit Cersei. Uncalled for. To Robert, they must seem like squabbling kids though. Your wife took my brother hostage, well your brother murdered my men. I would be sick to death of being in between those two!

Chapters 41-45

(view spoiler)[A trial by combat is always exciting, but I think Tyrion narrowly managed to live. Bronn knew what he was doing by tiring the man out, and I'm pleased he did to outsmart Lysa Arryn. It's kinda weird that such a young boy is so obsessed with seeing someone fall to their death, right? Yeah, it's weird.

The story Tyrion tells to Bronn about his 'wife' is horrific. I wonder if she really was a whore, and if Tywin made Jaime lie to Tyrion about it. Just a truly awful story all round.

I'm not sure if sending men to behead the Mountain is a good idea Ned. I know he wants to be just and bring justice and peace, but he's making some enemies in King's Landing.

Sansa really is an airhead, isn't she? I know she's highborn and she hasn't had to worry about anything at her age, but my god, I could do without all the swooning over boys and thinking that being good-looking is the only thing that matters!

So I want to start off by saying I have never read these books. I have, however watched season 1 and maybe 2 can't remember if I finished season 2 or not but that was years ago. I stopped watching the TV show because 1. I found myself fast forwarding to all the parts with Dany and the dragons in them lol and 2. I couldn't stop thinking about all the child actors in the show, and wondering if those kids were seriously messed up after some of those scenes. It seems that reading about these things doesn't bother me near as much as seeing rl people playing it out even if they are just acting. That being said I was totally surprised that the TV series at least for this first book follows so very closely to what is written, though they played up the smut even more in the TV series I think.

Finished: (view spoiler)[ Well.. I have to be honest and say that I felt like most of the book dragged.. took a quite a while to build up to things while at the same time little things were happening for more like "shock" value to keep you interested. After that ending though its not like you can't keep reading... I mean Dany just walked out of a funeral pyre with baby dragons. I will say that it didn't really go into depth in the TV series about how she used the death of the maegi lady to give life to her babies and it seems like that is what made them hatch. I can't wait to get to a part that I haven't seen in the series though so everything is so much more shocking... Though it is almost always true you should read the book before seeing the movie or in this case the show, I feel it is imperative with this series because of the "shock" value being ripped away made the book seem kind of boring... nothing is ever a shocking the second time around I guess. Chapters 46-50

(view spoiler)[Well shit. Cersei be confessing everything. I'm not sure that's good considering the last man who found out was killed. This chapter is erm.. very graphic in detailing the incest. Hmm.

Also, I'm not sure why Ned thinks this is a good idea. Threatening to expose the most powerful woman in the Kingdom? I'm sure that'll be fine. I'm sure you'll get your way, Ned...

Love that line by Cersei about when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. It's just such a great line.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, FINALLY! I hate Viserys so much and his death was soooooooooo satisfying. Take that, you whiny brat!!!

Again, why are you trusting Littlefinger? Ned, stop. Don't tell anyone anything unless you're 1000000% sure you can trust them!! It might be the right thing to do, but it's still treason at this moment in time.

And what have I been saying? Don't. Trust. Littlefinger. Ned went about this all the wrong way and it's easy for me to say this, but come on mate, your plan wasn't great.

Chapters 51-55

They truly manipulated Sansa there, didn't they? Poor girl. They played heavily on her fears of not marrying Joffrey and are making her stand against her father. Cersei knows what she's doing.

Not looking good for Uncle Benjen, is it?

Now that Viserys is dead, why doesn't Dany just stay with the Khal. She doesn't have to go back to King's Landing and be Queen. She could have had a happy life with Khal Drogo and their child and that. I know it was her birthright but everyone keeps dying to get to the throne. I'd stay away haha!

Oh and people are trying to kill her. Great.

Just so everyone knows if a criminal is confessing a crime to you in secrecy it always means they are planning to get rid of you before you can expose them... He should have cut and freaking run, especially for his kids. There is a time in a parents life when they know that despite all their best personality traits, they will do whatever it takes for their kids.. That is one thing I really like about the mothers in this story. They are so cut throat for their kids. (hide spoiler)]

i can't picture tyrion with blond hair and a green eye. i see him as the actor from the show.

i love Arya and jon's relationship.

i love who much Catelyn is protective of her children but i hate who mean she is to jon , she tells him it should be him not bran and then he tells robb she was kind. it is not his fault that her husband slept with another women.


robb telling his mother to get her shit together cause reckon needs her and he needs her and he doesn't know what to do, he is trying but he need her help. he sounded so scared and like his real age at that part, i love seeing this side of the characters, like jon and dany crying in the other chapters, it makes them more real

Things are sure heating up. God I always wish I forget everything that I've read and seen before reading this book. Most often I'm not even surprised. Which sucks

Anyhow, the prisons in Eyrie are scary. A lot scary, Imagine this close being to freedom. Just one jump away but if you try you'll be a goner :D

Viserys is just a shitty f*cker. Pardon for my rudeness, but I hate him even more than Joffrey.

Oh how I wish Eddard's dream finished until the end. Lyanna's promise is the most intriguing thing for me right now

Chapters 41-45

Jon is such a good guy, it was adorable on how he's sticking up for his friend. A rare moment in such a dark book

Tywin...has such a vivid way of raising his kids, doesn't he?

And the Mountain...he's one of the most creepy persons things I've ever read about.

Sansa's POVs are one of the most annoying things I've ever read in this book. Her hopeless dreamy state is just making me roll my eyes.

Hmm, it was a bad call to tell everything to Cersei. He should have at least sent the children away first. Or idk, made some safety plans. That conversation was the same as a war declaration and the only thing that is keeping Ned safe is Robert, but he's far away.

Chapters 56-60

(view spoiler)[I feel sorry for Robb, being only 15 years old and having to command an army to war to save his father and sisters. It must be so surreal.

The Burned Men sound.. crazy! Choosing to burn a body part off? Nah, I'm good love.

Ahh the infamous Tywin Lannister finally makes his appearance. You could tell there's real animosity between him and his son Tyrion. From what we've heard so far, Tywin was an awfully cruel father. It's good to see that Tyrion almost laughs off his father's frosty remarks.

Kinda shitty for them to 'sack' Ser Barristan Selmy from his role in the Kingsguard. He didn't really do anything bad. I think they'll regret that one.

Now we all know that Ned Stark has too much pride and honour to actually admit that Joffrey is the true King. Hmm..

Varys saying to Ned exactly what I've been screaming the whole way through. Why would you confront Cersei and expect her to do what you say?? Come on Ned.

Could you imagine having so many sons and daughters and grandkids that you can't even remember all their names, or who's the father/mother of who? Crazy shit!

Could someone give me a brief introduction to this world? I'll be finishing my current series soon and have contemplated delving into the one. Would be much appreciated <3

High fantasy, treachery everywhere. Magic, good world building, superb character build and witty conversation. If I told anything specific I'd spoil you the fun

the Eyre is scary ,they climb on small steps that go on forever. and that prison cell is ironic,an open cell , they give the prisoner a way out but not really.

jon Arryn repeating ' the seed is strong' and saying robert name, must be frustrating to him. he is dying and trying to tell everyone what he found out but they think its about his child.

Chapters 61-65

(view spoiler)[I like how Lord Commander Mormont sort of becomes a surrogate father to Jon and has given him the sword he should have given his own son. It must mean to a lot to him. Even if Jon doesn't appreciate it and is keen to hold onto the thought that Ned should have been giving him a sword.

Well.. the Dothraki sure love to rape, don't they? I'm pleased that Dany stepped in and was like don't do that!

I'm not a huge fan of the battle scenes. They just don't exactly work for me. It was quite interesting at the beginning of the chapter when Tyrion felt more comfortable with his rag-tag team of men than with his father and his men. It's nice for him to find a group of people he can connect with.

And now Catelyn and Robb have taken Jaime Lannister hostage. Not much else happened in that chapter..

Chapters 66-70

(view spoiler)[It doesn't look good for Ned. As soon as Joffrey said what he did but his mother and Sansa being soft women, you knew it wasn't good. At least Arya didn't have to look, but I think she's not exactly in safe hands herself now.

I'm still not sure why they spared Osha and brought her into the castle at Winterfell and they have interacting with Bran and Rickon? She's a wilding and she was part of a group that were gonna kidnap Bran?? You don't know what her intentions are at this point.

I'm glad that Sansa has finally realised what a piece of shit Joffrey is. But unfortunately she's kinda stuck there. She must realise by now that they've got her hostage. And for Joffrey to get Ser Meryn to hit her? And then take her to see her father's head?? And then she gets hit again? Fuck that guy man! Fuck Joffrey! I've remembered why I hate that piece of shit!!!

Oh Dany's baby has died! That awful maegi woman lied to her and made her think that she could sacrifice the horse for Khal Drogo when really it was her baby. And for what? For him to come back to life braindead and nothing like he once was? Fuck that woman too! It was a mercy for Dany to kill him, but my God, that was an emotional chapter!

Even Tywin Lannister, his grandfather, thinks Joffrey goes too far. The boy needs to be reined in!

I've always been so confused as to why Renly thought he had a claim to the throne? Okay so if Robert's kids aren't really his kids, then his oldest brother is his successor, not Renly who's the youngest brother. Why the actual fuck did he think he could be King????
