Bill The folks that brought us Murdoch Mysteries is now bringing a new series to Canadian TV; The Frankie Drake Mysteries. It features Lauren Lee Smith as female PI Frankie Drake. It's set in Toronto in the 1920's. The first episode was very entertaining, kind of a cross between Murdoch and Phryne Fisher. Lauren Lee Smith was one of the main characters in The Listener, if you've ever watched that. I can imagine there being some cross over with Murdoch, or some references to the previous series. Worth giving a try if it's shown in your area.

Skye | 2105 comments PBS, Thomas?

Thomas (tom471) | 2006 comments No, CBC out of Toronto. My cable carries it because we are close to Canadian border(Niagara Falls).
I have been watching Jack Taylor, ex Garda, now a PI on PBS.

The Jack Taylor series is very good. It got me checking out the books by Ken Bruen.

Skye | 2105 comments It isn't on PBS.

Thomas (tom471) | 2006 comments It may be something that my PBS station bought separate from PBS network.

Skye | 2105 comments It gets confusing in my state: I am not that far from you, Thomas, but I get at least five or six PBS Channels. Currently, one is running Poldark, yet it also had the Murdoch Mysteries and Father Downing Mysteries.

Bill It hasn't grabbed me as much as Murdoch did. Hoping it'll get much better as the cast grow into their roles.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 440 comments I watched the first episode last night, found it quite hard to watch, with what was acceptable in the 20's, but thought showing 'selective breeding' a bit much for the very first episode. Does it improve?

It did get better. I don't like as much as Murdoch Mysteries or the Phryne Fisher mysteries but I did watch the whole season.
