Educator Book Club discussion

I'm going to start teaching mathematics and computing (also chemistry) in August, and I wanted to see if I can find people who've used computers - particularly programming - as a way into helping learners to understand mathematical and scientific concepts, like variables and functions. In particular, I'm interested in playful and creative approaches that make explicit the connections between programming, maths and ideally physics.

Mindstorms: Children, Computers, And Powerful Ideas is a classic text on this, but it's 34 years old now, and many of its ideas have still not really taken hold. I wonder why not?

I don't know that this will be exactly what you're looking for, but should help with algorithms/functions. It's also a great way to help introduce students to computer science concepts without overwhelming them. Hope it helps!
