message 1: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 728 comments I got curious and decided to see how far behind I am on the group reads. Would love to see where other people are at in the catch-up game!

Modern Classics:
Read: 13
To Read: 4
Currently Reading: 1

Classics:
Read: 11
To Read: 7

I need 11 more plus the one I’m currently reading to be caught up! I included one book in each category in the To Read list because I haven’t read them since I was a teenager and need to read them again!

message 2: by Hibi (new)

Hibi (hibikime) I'm hoping to catch up on all the books the group has read eventually but since I only joined 3 days ago I don't have anything to show for it just yet.

Halfway through my first one though!

message 3: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 334 comments I read 10 in both categories.

message 4: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) 9 Modern
12 Classics (not counting a few I read for school decades ago and might reread at some point)

message 5: by Leesa (new)

Leesa I'm currently at

Classics- 14
Currently reading- 1

Modern Classics- 10
Currently reading 1

Which I'm proud of! Don't think I'll ever catch up completely though, I read too slowly 🙁

message 6: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 728 comments I read slow as well, Leesa! Plus I like to fit my own picks in between group books. We will get there! I’m enjoying the ride :)

message 7: by Leesa (new)

Leesa Me too! I think I only got in three or four of my own books this year... I'm desperately wanting to get back to the Outlander series, but there's just not enough time in the day!

message 8: by Kyra (last edited Nov 19, 2017 02:21PM) (new)

Kyra Keeton | 279 comments Group Member since this May

Classics: 15

Modern: 6
Currently Reading (modern): 2 (will begin after I finish Jane Eyre for my British Novel class)

message 9: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Modern classics: read 12, currently reading 1

Classics: read 14

I had read quite a few before joining the group and have done a couple of re-reads when ones I had read were BOTM. Still many to catch up on though! A Christmas Carol will be next for me I think, if I can finish The Night Circus before December

message 10: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 64 comments Modern Classics: read 8, currently reading 1
Classics: read 10

I still need to plan out how I'm going to catch up with the group. But I joined several groups at the same time (including this one), and just may not be able to catch up.

message 11: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Very good idea and fun game, Sarah! :-)

Of the 42 books on the group's Bookshelf, I've read 10 (already including currently reading), so, haven't read 32! :-) Worst score so far, but I have Fannie with me at the same count! :-)

But I'm not really going to read all of them, so it's OK! I'm really happy with the group and with the fact that I 'm reading long overdue "One Hundred Years of Solitude" because of it! :-))

message 12: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Yeah, most of the books that I haven't read yet I don't want or plan to, so I do feel good about where I stand.

I am pretty happy with those numbers, especially with the new monthly catch-up category. If I keep up with all three categories every month I wouldn't be surprised if I was completely caught up by this time next year!

message 14: by Laura H L (new)

Laura H L (laurah30) | 648 comments I have read 12 classics and plan to read 2.

I have read 8 of the modern classics and plan to read 2.

I have no plans to read every book on the list but appreciate the suggestions of others. I was not really into science fiction or fantasy but have tried it out and enjoyed some different titles as a result.

17/20 classics
10/20 modern
2/2 shorts

A half dozen or so of those I had read prior to joining the group in May (a few rereads may be in order). I have really been enjoying catching up on books that I have always wanted to read or that have been recommended by the group. Cheers, all.

message 17: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 342 comments Classics: 12

Modern: 6

Total: 18

Not all of them were read with the group at the- some were before or after.

Don't know that I will ever "catch up" because there are some that the group chose that just don't appeal to me. But there are a handful that I missed that I would read if they came up again.

Including books to be read in December...

Classics: 15/20
Modern: 17/20
Buddies: 2/2

I am actually trying is to read everything the group is reading or has read, so desperately trying to catch-up always.

Missing books thus far:
One Hundred Years of Solitude
A Tale of Two Cities
The Sun Also Rises
Dune - halfway through
Lord of the Flies - halfway through
Dark Matter
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
American Gods - halfway through

message 19: by Kerri (new)

Kerri | 711 comments Buddy reads: 2/2

Classics: 13/20
Currently reading: One Hundred Years of Solitude

Modern: 8/20

All of these except my current read and And Then There Were None were read previous to this group. And almost all of the books I'm missing are on my To-Read list. I hope to catch up eventually! I just get side-tracked really easily :) I really want to re-read The Night Circus with everyone this month but it's going to be cutting it close!

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 728 comments I just want to read all of the books in the world! Someone told me on average how many books one person can read in their lifetime and it made me sad!

nwhat was the answer? Making me depressed already just thinking about it

message 23: by Marcos (last edited Nov 21, 2017 03:10PM) (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments If you read two per month, which is a good pace, that's 24 / year. If you consider 60 years, for instance, you'd read 1,440 books in your lifetime. :-)

message 24: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 728 comments Yeah the person told me at best probably 2,000 books! Eek! Choose wisely, fellow book lovers!

message 25: by Marcos (last edited Nov 21, 2017 03:13PM) (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Sorry, I typed 1,140, but it's 1,440! :-) Corrected.

message 26: by Mariana (new)

Mariana Before starting the group I decided to dig in the classics (so I would stop feeling dumb by not knowing what everyone else was talking about). High school readings are so different in my country that I felt very curious about the English classics. So:

Classics: 15/20
Modern classics: 6/20

message 27: by MissLemon (new)

MissLemon | 274 comments Since I joined in April I've read 9 of the group books which is a little ahead as I intended to read one per month ( so I 'should' only be on 8) The extra book was the buddy read in October. I have occasionally read a different book to the ones selected for the month (but still selected from the group shelf obviously) and I unfortunately abandoned 1 book (A Clockwork Orange)

I had already read quite a few before I joined so my current stats are :
25/42 read,
1/2 Buddy reads
15/20 Classics
9/20 Modern

Next year I will try to read more of the 'modern' selection but still only plan to read one a month as I do several other challenges. There are some books on the list I realistically may never read because they don't interest me (Dune) but I read a lot so could easily catch up in a couple of months if I really wanted to clear the list.
