I listened to the audio and really liked it. Hope you can get the audio. Have you asked any library to purchase it? Sometimes the librarians can respond to a request.
Set in a future where resources are seriously depleted, Wade grows up in a stack of mobile home in a shanty town close to a dilapidated city. To escape this marginal existence, people spend most of their time hooked into a virtual reality called Oasis. Five years ago the founder of Oasis died, leaving his fabulous inheritance including the Oasis itself up for grasp to the first gamer who finds the egg hidden somewhere in his fictional world. Having been a huge fan of films, music and games, only someone completely knowledgeable about the pop culture of the 80s would be able to find it. So Wade and his online friends have immersed themselves obsessively into this world, trying to ignore the precarious life they have outside the Oasis. Once Wade figures out the first clue the race is on and the opposition is not just other gamers, but also a large corporation trying to get control of the Oasis.
This was a very fast paced read, like going down a rabbit hole with worlds inside games inside films and a tiny bit of real life action thrown. Very enjoyable trip down memory lane, as most of the films, music and even some of the games rang a bell.
