message 4: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11638 comments And me! I don't want to do as many as this year as i have some chunky ones to read.

Cody | 348 comments Margo wrote: "Found you! Keeping it simple might be a good plan. I hope to do 36 too ;-)"

yep keping it simple is the only thing i am capable of doing :P if i could use crayons instead of typing that would be ideal but i cant :( they always get stuck in my nose!!!

haha i'll send youa can of skol, i am not sure whether you have that in Oz but it is awful.

@Margo @Peggy lol thanks i think it is also the tidiest thread by far although i am not sure if there are points fo that

message 10: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Ewww no. And it's a lager. Boooooo! You're talking to a wee northern lass here. Ale all the way. Yorkshire would be best, but it was an Aussie Summer ale today, so whatever ;)

message 11: by Cody (new)

Cody | 348 comments i think coming from Manchester that Yorkshire might be my spiritual nemesis, that or evil dentists, i do not know. either way the best i can do is a can of John Smiths with one of those little balls that keeps it fizzy

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments A widget I believe they are called. Or at least that's what we call the balls in our household (to clarify before people get strange ideas I'm referring to the balls in the John Smith's cans).

Janice (jamasc) | 59930 comments I'll wager a bet it's for the Scottish author. The book sounds a bit creepy. I'll be waiting to hear your thoughts on it Cody.

message 21: by Cody (last edited Dec 24, 2017 07:30AM) (new)

Cody | 348 comments @Rus Janice was right the Scottish writer and I am fairly sure it is set on an island off the coast of Scotland (could be wrong there)

i think i am looking forward to the bobby fischer book most, he is one of the most interesting players in chess, i kn o there arent too many interesting people in chess but anybody who attacks a russian prison guard with an egg gets a thumbs up from me

I will let you know :) i might read it first as it is actually on my bookshelf. i do know that i love Iain banks culture novels so hopefully this will be good too

message 23: by Cody (new)

Cody | 348 comments sorry about my typos, i am set about 10 ft from my pc and the keyboad that i have had for the past few months is not the best, will repleace soon

message 24: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59930 comments YLTO has a lot of members with good reading comprehension, regardless of typos and unusual auto-correct.

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments If tou hadn't mentioned typos I wouldn't have noticed them.

message 26: by Cody (new)

Cody | 348 comments @janice @sarah thank you both :):)

message 27: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11638 comments Cody i think most people just see the correct word i.e. What they expect to see. At least i hope so - Autocorrect on my kindle has never worked and i can't spell for toffee lol

message 28: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11638 comments The only one of those that i've read is The Fifth Witness. I am a bit of a haller fan.

message 30: by Cody (new)

Cody | 348 comments @all above thanks :) i do try to pick through them but the wireless does not seem the best :P

@margo i am a haller fan also, i have read the lincoln lawyer and the one after that escapes me currently, i do not like the bosch ones though, i think connolly writes a lot better first person

message 35: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Oh Scottish makes sense. I was wondering if I could slip it in somewhere too.

Typos are the least of our worries, with all our lingo, slang, abbreviations, and vocabulary from around the world. We are an extremely flexible bunch.

Merry Christmas!!!

Cody | 348 comments Book1 Badge 1
The Wasp Factory
Gemini - Scottish writer / author

I finished this in the early hours of this morning, I always struggle sleeping my first night back in work after time off

This book was ok, I thought it was slow but it is only a baby book so I powered through it.

there was nothing in there that really surprised me, everything that was meant to be a surprise was fairly obviously telegraphed and I didn't think the main character should have been written first person as they were really unlikeable and this fed into the other characters. Maybe this was the point

it was probably 2.5 stars

message 39: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59930 comments The book sounded so intriguing. Too bad you didn't like it more.

message 40: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11266 comments Good job on your first book, Cody. I read a couple of reviews and I think I will pass on this one.

message 41: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) Congrats on finishing your first book :)

Cody | 348 comments Janice wrote: "The book sounded so intriguing. Too bad you didn't like it more."

There is also a (this is only a mild spoiler) (view spoiler) and there are some things that are pretty much guaranteed to stop me liking something and that is one.

I will say that I love Iain M banks and I know how good he is, this was his first book perhaps I just expected something else?

I suppose it is telling that I finished it around 4AM and I had given it to a colleague and told him I never wanted to see it again by 8.15 lol
