Its rotten isn't it, the storm knocked my bins over last night a 2.30 and it is bin day tomorrow so I was up getting my rubbish back in and then wedging them so they didn't blow away again in a storm lol

message 30: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments You're brave putting the bins out in that storm. I would have just sucked it up for another week!

Cody | 348 comments Rusalka wrote: "You're brave putting the bins out in that storm. I would have just sucked it up for another week!"

Lol I cant ! last year the council replaced our one big bin with 4 approximately half the size (1 normal 3 recycling) I don't mind recycling obviously (although I am dubious about paper) but I think having 1 bin with more people picking through it afterwards (like they do anyway) would be better than having 4 bin wagons driving around my medium sized city (10 square miles I think) instead of 1 bin wagon.

also the new bins are so small you cant fit full bin liners in without cutting the bottom of the bin off and them getting stuck in the bin on bin day!

message 32: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments We should move this to the Watcha Doin' thread, poor Annerlee!

But I have opinions on this, particularly as my brother did a tour of our recycling facilities here in Canberra.

Cody | 348 comments lol I think I just replied in someone elses thread unless I replied to you in the watcha doin thread that you created. keeping my fingers crossed!

I think you got your wires crossed... however wheelie bins + wind is a hot local topic where I live.

We don't have individual bins in the Shetland Isles at the moment (too windy), however the local council (SIC) is trying to introduce them, complete with suggestions on how to keep them anchored. The first suggestion was to put a few heavy rocks in the bottom... Locals aren't convinced.

See http://www.shetnews.co.uk/news/15436-...

message 35: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments *snort* I love it. The rocks wouldn't work as when the bin tips, it'd end up in the truck. But I love the occy strap idea.

You Scots are a practical bunch! Who would have thought this would have posed so much of an issue? But completely makes sense when you think about the weather in the Shetlands!

I noticed that Cherie, but only after I'd finished. I think it was just the right book at the right time for me, being the only short Stephen King I had to hand. I read it despite the cover and without any expectations at all. I just wanted a storyteller to tell me a tale in one sitting. It was perfect for that.
If I had read the blurb, or expected a full blown whodunnit, or believed the cover I might have hated it too.
As it was, I loved the 'old codger' characters and it was set on an island - which definitely went in its favour. And it was lucky number 13 for the challenge too ; )

(I gave it 5 stars... really sorry)

Annerlee | 2871 comments UPDATE:
Making progress. If I'd got my act together and read books for round 1 first, I could request my first badge now. As it is, my reading's all over the place - I already have a book finished for badge 3. What a scatter brain!

Oh well. Why change a habit of a lifetime...?
