Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #7 (light blue) - Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah. One of the reasons I enjoy reading an author's entire book history is to see the progression in their writing and ideas. While this book is an okay read, I can definitely tell that the author has matured in her writing style. The plot was alright but predictable, the characters were a bit flat (except for Liam, he was written well), and the writing not her usual standard. But this was one of her earlier works. Still worth reading. 3.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #11 (black) - After The Shot Drops by Randy Ribay. Overall, this was a good YA book. I appreciate the author presenting viewpoints from different perspectives and tackling some tough issues. Editing could have been a little tighter - there were some repetitive moments. Worth reading. 3.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #9 (purple) - In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken. I had a really difficult time finishing this book. Up until the last third of the book, I really didn't care about the characters, the plot seemed to drag, and there was way too much teen angst. The same words were being used repeatedly too. But the last third reminded me why I cared about these characters and the plot picked up a bit. I'm not sure I would recommend the entire trilogy. 3 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #15 (title describing color) - As Bright as Heaven by Susan Meissner. Overall, really good book! I enjoyed the different perspectives; the author did an excellent job of aging the girls. The history was accurate, and the plot had a good flow. My only criticism was that the ending seemed a bit too perfect. Definitely worth reading! 4 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #14 (color in title) - Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty. This book had an interesting concept. However, the word choice was repetitive and for such a compelling story, it was rather boring in the middle. Not interesting enough for me to continue the series. 3 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #1 (white) - The Breakdown by B.A. Paris. This book was an ok mystery. I liked the writing, which is what kept me reading. I figured out the twist and found the plot rather predictable. The main character annoyed me, but as my greatest fear (besides sharks and gators) is losing my mind, I understood her a bit. Worth reading. 3.5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #10 (brown) - The Cat's Table by Michael Ondaatje. I love this author's writing! He has a wonderful way of weaving past and future events into a main narrative, almost like asides in a conversation. And I love how he describes his characters. I listened to the audiobook, which he read. It was good, and he has an interesting reading voice, but I was confused as to his pronunciation of some of the words in the book. The book appears to be semi autobiographical. Definitely worth reading! 4 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #13 (five colors) - The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh. Overall, this was a really good read! The writing was a bit simplistic for me, but the story was interesting. I really like the characters so far. The good outweighed the not great. Worth reading! 4 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #8 (dark blue) - Night Road by Kristin Hannah. Overall, a good read. In signature Hannah fashion, the characters were complex and sympathetic and tugged at the heart strings. My biggest issue was the beginning was a bit slow and the ending was rushed. It was too perfect. Worth reading. 4 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #6 (green) - Almost Everything: Notes on Hope by Anne Lamott. I started reading this in the middle of Bob Woodward's book, Fear, and I really needed it as a palate cleanser. But then as I continued through her thoughtful notes, I really did start to feel hopeful. I'm returning my library copy ASAP so others can read it, then I'm purchasing my own copy to have at home so I can return to these little hope notes as needed. Definitely worth reading! 5 stars

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed my 3rd #5 (yellow) - Mrs. Bridge by Evan Connell. The writing is excellent, and the short chapters lend to a quick read. The author's style was interesting, and ultimately led to a lower rating. He presented his main character in small vignettes and as an object of pity by her children. There was never any connection between the small stories or real attempt to explain his main character's background. Maybe in 1950 it was understood enough to not require explanation, but the main character's life is rather foreign in modern times (thankfully). The ending was also abrupt and unsettling. Worth reading! 3.5 stars

45/45 - challenge completed!
