Congrats on your novel, Sarah. The link in my original post (message #1) will send you to a spot where you can post that you're looking for reviews.

Oh, it's weird this posted to here! I went to your group through your link.. Will try again, Thank You!

Did you even bother to read the first post? Use the link in that post if you want to promote your book.
Sigh. The idea of a thread is to follow all posts in one discussion topic. TO REITERATE:
Please do NOT post that you are looking for reviewers, or anything connected to wanting people to review your books anywhere but there or in other promotional areas. From now on, any promotional posts in the reader areas anywhere will just be deleted without warning. I do hate being the thread police, so please just do it the right way. Thanks!!

As I saw two new threads with all caps in their titles posted yesterday, I thanked the universe for the good fortune of your voluntary stewardship of this effort.
It's not just me -- it's Bill too, but thanks. I've noticed that there are some of our members that speak up from time to time, which is how it SHOULD be, and for which I am eternally grateful. Speak up whenever it's appropriate!!

You'll notice his posts have been deleted. Are they showing up once again in reader areas of this group?
If anyone sees them, please let me know, and thanks, Nell.

Nancy, The user currently posting as James Dawson posted two threads, which remain, under the General folder.

Since I last posted on this thread, I've deleted five more posts by him. Sheesh! If anyone sees any I've missed, please let me or Bill know so they can be deleted. I wonder what the powers that be at Goodreads are going to do about this.

Was he removed from the group and blocked? If so, is he coming back under a new profile? I've flagged him in several groups but GR seems to be either unable or unwilling to stop him.
different name, Faith. His current alias has been deleted and blocked. I'll be watching for him to reappear in another incarnation.
Hopefully enough group moderators will do what I did and report the guy. Then maybe the GR people will do something.
Well, if anyone sees anything remotely familiar here from another person, I'm sure it will be him so PLEASE let me know.

His comments are gone, and he has once again been deleted from the group. I also contacted gr support so we'll see what happens.
Keep watching! You all are great!!!!!!!!

There must be a lot of training seminars and books telling authors to promote themselves on Goodreads. As a reader, I really don't have a problem with that. I love authors, and I really like that we can interact with them a little here. I might feel differently if I couldn't avoid them, and I recognize that the mods here are working hard to create a comfortable environment for us. Thank you!
This spammer must have a business that does some of the marketing for authors, and his persistence is very annoying. Telling him to stop hasn't worked, so it looks like vigilance and swift action (to block each new account) is working for you.
For what it's worth, this is the first thread I saw when I came this group, and the first thread was a little confusing to me. By the title, I got the impression that this was where an author would post a request for reviewers, and it's where I looked to see what it might entail for me to review books. There is a line that says "... anywhere but there.." I first read this to say "... anywhere but here.." A trick of the eye might cause a new author to make an honest mistake and post here.
Just an idea... I wonder if it would help to take advantage of the position of this thread and summarize the key message right at the top for authors to tell them where to go. You might also freeze new responses to this thread (or maybe keep it open to attract and delete the spammers).
Mods - there is no need to reply. I don't want to make more work for you.

Thanks for your post. Quite frankly, the problem is that people don't read. This isn't the only thread where it happens -- for example, every month after we close the nominations thread it seems that more than one person continues to nominate books even though we specifically say that the thread is closed and no more nominations will be taken. I think people just jump in, fail to read what's come before, and post something. It says very clearly in message 1 that this is NOT the place to ask for reviews, and I've provided a specific link, yet it continued to happen. I don't think that there's anything the moderators can do if people fail to read. I'm not trying to be rude or mean or anything, but it is just a fact.

If you don't want people to post here, make it physically impossible for them to do so. If you only want to TELL them something, freeze the thread so no one can reply.
So the top thread might be just this :
" If you are an author looking for reviewers, or a reader who wants to review books, go to the AUTHOR'S CORNER:
Link
then freeze the thread so no one can reply.

Instead of telling people what to do, make it easier for them to go where you want by eliminating false roads.
Actually, this thread has been helpful since the spammer was reported, so if I'd closed it, I wouldn't have had spammer reports from the members.
