Paul White (paul_white) | 7 comments My first questions to this group.
How do you generally look for/find new authors?
would/do you prefer to read a short story or extract of someones writing before buying a full-length book?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I prefer crannies. :D

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Seriously though...

I don't look for new authors. I look for books.

After I read a good book, I may look at other books by the same author.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments What do you like to read? The answer varies depending on whether you read literary, mainstream, military SF, or Romance.

I always read the front matter in the Look Inside! on Amazon; how it's set up, the book description, at least a few pages to check style and writing chops. It's usually enough to see if I like a writer's style and voice.

Then the reviews, to see if the author has a bad habit I don't care for (YMMV): leaving ambiguous endings for the reader to decide.
