Shannon (countessmom) | 4087 comments I don't work -- which is why I've got so much time to read so much. My girls go back on the 7th but back to school stuff starts as early as the 1st. Are you a teacher?

message 152: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 127 comments Summer is nearly over where you are? That's interesting, here in the UK next week is the first week of the summer holidays and we don't go back until September (I'm having a longer summer because I finished my last year). When does school finish for the summer in the US?

message 153: by Heather (new)

Heather Perkins (queenallie03) | 110 comments School finishes in mid-May to early June depending where you are around the country, and so going back happens anytime in August to the beginning of September.

I ended up having to take care of my stubborn dog who decided to get an eye infection and is now sulking around in an Elizabethan collar. Looks like I won't be finishing the book I'm working on now this week.

Sanskriti Nagar | 318 comments Finished reading Only Time Will Tell, 19/07. Shelved Wheel-a-Thon
That should get us a D (char: Deakins) on the 3rd spell-out.

message 155: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn No, not a teacher. I'm a school psychologist. At my school district (in south Texas), the kids' last day was June 6 and they return August 26. My schedule's a bit different. I worked until June 19 and return August 8. I'm NOT ready to go back!!!!

I'm sorry about your dog Heather, I hope he feels better! And that's ok about the book...we did great this week!! I just need to hear from Sunshine and Angel to see if they finish their books today, and we'll be ready to post! I'm excited to see what word we have next!

I already have you down for the books you told us about. Were you able to read more??

message 161: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn According to my calculations (which may be incorrect as I'm horrible at Math lol) we accumulated 315 points this week!!! We did so great!!! TEAM SHERLOCK HOLMES!!!!!

message 162: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn I checked Angel's page and she has her book down as "read", so maybe she just hasn't had a chance to update in her. So I already updated the post to reflect her book as read.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments No I meant for this week

Yes I wanted to post something here to tell you all that I was finished with the last book, but just as I was going to do so I couldn't connect myself to goodreads. I wasn't even sure if it had saved my update on my book...

GO TEAM SHERLOCK HOLMES !!!!!!

message 165: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn Since everyone is finished with this week's books, I went ahead and posted our results. I'm taking my son to a birthday party this afternoon and I might not be able to post later. I don't want to take the risk of missing the deadline.

Again I want to thank the whole team for doing such a great job! And our new members Angel and Sanz did a great job of jumping in and contributing!

message 166: by Heather (new)

Heather Perkins (queenallie03) | 110 comments I am very proud of our first week!!! Sorry I couldn't get my last book in for this week, but now I'm halfway finished with 2 books for next week ;)
And Misty is doing good. She just wouldn't stop rubbing her eyes because her Cushing's meds makes her more susceptible to allergies, and even with me warning her off it the past few weeks(my cat's water bottle came out of retirement) she still went and got something in her eye and got it infected. She's a 14 year old black lab, so she's a bit of a brat like that. Just one more pill than normal and some Benadryl. That means more weenies to make sure she takes her meds, I'm sure she's not complaining too much, cone of shame aside.

message 167: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (countessmom) | 4087 comments Yes, my kids finished last school year on May 23 and go back Aug 7. When we moved to LA, I was quite shocked at how early they started until I realized how much time off during the school year. Thanksgiving & Christmas like normal but they also get a full week for Mardi Gras as well as a Spring Break.

Any idea when they'll spin for the next round?

message 168: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn They said spin 2 will be posted right after the deadline when all the results are in.

message 169: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (countessmom) | 4087 comments Does week 2 start immediately or is there a break between rounds?

Got it! I put yours as R. I'm currently reading Shadow and Bone. Characters: Alina & Mal, so I'll take the M since I think that's the only place it fits.

Sanskriti Nagar | 318 comments Put me down for a C. I'm currently reading Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl

Claire | 4251 comments I'll be reading When Darkness Comes by Alexandra Ivy, and also if it's anything good I'll read the second in the series, Embrace The Darkness.

message 177: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn Looks like we got 11th place for Week 1, which falls right around the middle. Not bad considering we were down a player for the first part of the week!

message 178: by Claire (new)

Claire | 4251 comments I've just finished reading Four: A Divergent Story Collection. Its Main Character is Tobias Eaton.

message 179: by Sunshine✰✰✰ (new)

Sunshine✰✰✰ | 313 comments I'm reading The Last Surgeon by Michael Palmer. Will only cover a "M" but it is a Mystery-Crime book so genere is covered.

Jaclyn Sanz wrote: "Put me down for a C. I'm currently reading Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl"

I'm checking with mods to make sure this book will count. There is a rule about children's books needing to be a certain word count and 2 of the teams actually had a few books disqualified because they weren't long enough!

message 181: by Heather (new)

Heather Perkins (queenallie03) | 110 comments It should be long enough since the cut off is 160 pages and GR has it at over 320, and amazon's kindle page has it at 305. Always good to make sure though.

Jaclyn Just finished Shadow & Bone. I'll be starting 1st to Die. Character: Claire Washburn

message 190: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn I'm frustrated because I'm having one of those "not in the mood for this book" moments. The book I just finished, Shadow and Bone, was so good that it's been hard for me to get into another one. I started one because it was short, but it was so awful that I abandoned it at 14%. So I started another one, 1st to die, which i also need for another challenge. And it's not awful, but I just can't get into it. I think I have a book hangover from S&B. :( I'm going to call it a night and hopefully I can pick up tomorrow with a fresh mindset! Hope everyone is doing well! :)

Totally understandable! I got that way last week which is why I took a break & watched tons of TV. We are going to have to pace ourselves if we are going to keep it up for 7-8 weeks.

I finished Iron Night. I'm looking for my next book now & I'll update when I've figured out what I'm going to read.

Heather Perkins (queenallie03) | 110 comments Finished Chill, and then started and finished Grail by Elizabeth Bear. Same things to use for letters, but no Inkling, and the character of Tristan Conn can replace Chill. I'll add in the book links when I get to my computer. So happy I finished the trilogy. I want to look for more works by Bear now.

I've never heard of her...what kind of books does she write?

message 198: by Heather (new)

Heather Perkins (queenallie03) | 110 comments Jacob's Ladder Trilogy which I just finished is scifi, and I usually can't do scifi because of the 5 pages describing engine schematics, but she's not as intense as that because she also writes fantasy. So for instance Dust dealt with way stars and derelict spaceships and bioengineering, but also Christian mythology, AIs that consider themselves angels, characters with no gender, a third gender, and a drill that talks. I loved it, but kept getting distracted on starting the rest of the trilogy.

I enjoyed it. It was a quick & fun read if more than a little predictable. ;)

Started the 2nd one The Source, should finish it today.

Characters that would work: Mercy Taylor, Iris Taylor, Emily Taylor, Adam Cook
