Once we really start space colonization or get a little further with exploration, there may come a moment when we do encounter an alien race. If it's superior to human (meaning - more technologically advanced), we'd be at their mercy, but I wonder what would happen if it's inferior? Would all our vices come to the fore again and we'd try, for example, to strip them of everything and maybe enslave them, or have the humanity evolved sufficiently to let them be unharmed? What do you think?

Well, I guess that's one of the things I liked about the original Star Trek. Observe but don't interfere. Of course, the writers allowed them to get lucky when encountering superior civilizations: the show had to go on. In real life, those with the most power tend to do whatever they can get away with.
