Ah yes, relaxing while reading and not rushing... I want that too.... But I also want to read A LOT OF books, cause there are so many great books waiting for me (and so little time, I'm a slow reader). So quite a dilemma!

Wishing you the best of luck on your goal and all of your challenges Mie & happy reading of course!!

message 21: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments 2018 is getting nearer, and I am as excited as ever about all the new challenges ahead, so I’ll be hitting the ground running!

Already started 3 of books that will count towards numerous prompts, so I am expecting a great start :-)

Wishing everybody a fantastic New Year and, of course, happy reading!!!

Mie | 2164 comments January summary:

Even if this month was dominated by 12 days in Croatia with very little time to read, I still somehow managed to finish 9 books :-)

There were a couple of not-so-good ones among them, but mostly 4 star reads. My one top rating of 5 stars went to Agatha Christie’s Murder in Mesopotamia - not surprisingly, as I am a big Christie-fan ;-)

Now back from holiday I can’t wait to pick up the reading pace again!!!

Mie | 2164 comments February summary:

I think, that in future I will trust my instinct - if I am hesitant towards a book and have postponed reading it for years, then I should probably avoid it all together...

There are enough good stories out there, that I can’t wait to get started on, to “waste” time on so-so books :-) And with that in mind I will go through my pre-picked choices for the yearly challenges again! Something I love to do, as it happens, haha...

This months favourites are definitely Turtles All the Way Down and All the Bright Places - gave both of them 5⭐️

Very wise words Mie! I should follow them...yet I keep reading books I’m not really invested in. For a variety of reasons. I’m afraid it will pick up and that I would be missing out on a fantastic book (end). Also I’d feel like I’d read the first part for nothing, that I had wasted my time on a book I didn’t finish (a book and pages that would not count towards my challenge lol).

message 28: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments Exactly, Susy - imagine that? :-D

What would be worse, I wonder... Forcing myself to finish for a challenge, or the wasted time spent on a DNF, that won’t count? Arghhhh....

Hmm, for now I will (hopefully) enjoy the books I am really exited about. And if I suddenly get the urge, maybe then I will try out the ones, I am less exited about :-)

I’m quite sure the first one is worse... So, why doesn’t that help me accept that sometimes I should just not finish a book??

Sounds like a plan Mie! Happy reading!!

Blagica | 12942 comments You are doing great! Hoping March is a smashing success for you.

message 31: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments March summary:

WOW - what a month! 13 books read/listened to and 10 of them I gave 4-5 stars... That is a lot of great books 😄 One stands out from all the others and that is Origin - I expected it to be fantastic, so I was afraid of being disappointed, but I wasn’t in the least!

I won’t be off to flying start in April; 2 of the 3 books I’m currently reading are a bit “so-so”, although not so boring, that I will abandon them - I’ll probably just take a few days longer reading them 😉

message 32: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12942 comments A book is a dream that you hold in your hand. I hope that April brings you many more five star reads. Do you have a stand out book so far this year?

message 33: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments April summary:

Not a five star month, April... Although, some very good books thankfully found their way to me and it all culminated with Will Grayson, Will Grayson - almost as good as Turtles All the Way Down, my favourite year-to-date :-)

Reading different genres makes it difficult to compare the books - like apples and pears. Is a good and exiting mystery as good as the heartwarming YA that made me cry? Yes! Because they both entertained me thoroughly!

Must remember that thought :-)

message 34: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Mie wrote: "Reading different genres makes it difficult to compare the books - like apples and pears. Is a good and exiting mystery as good as the heartwarming YA that made me cry? Yes! Because they both entertained me thoroughly!."

I know what you mean. I have that problem too for example first reading a very deep story that has a lot going on and with very interesting characters and after that a mystery, thriller or action where it is all about the suspense. I tend to evaluate the latter as superficial although within its own genre it might be really good (and perhaps I wouldn't have felt the way I did if I had read some other book before)....

message 35: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments Exactly! And you are spot on - about how a book can feel superficial compared to the last book, even if it was really good.

Maybe I feel like it is a bit of a guilty pleasure to enjoy what some people would call “lighter” genres? But that is just silly and I will stop that immediately, haha...

message 38: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments Not a lot of great reads this month... But you can’t win every time ;-)

I did, however, have a Why-did-I-not-read-that-before-experience in The Last Jew. I read a trilogy by this author a couple of years ago, and I really liked it. So why I kept putting it off, I don’t know - happy to have read it now :-)

We are having fantastic weather in Denmark right now, and I am really enjoying reading in the sun! I love summer ❤️

message 40: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments Got through a big book this month - well, big for me (670 pages) - and the first half took me quite some time... It turned out to have a nice plot, but for me it could have been 200 pages shorter 😄

Summer holiday is starting in 2-3 weeks, and I hope that the books I am planning for that will be amazing! At least the planning is amazing - I just love that part 😉

message 43: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments Ahhh, summertime! Been on vacation and all I did was relaxing in the sun, swimming, eating, drinking - and reading 😄

I saved many good books for this month - no less than four of them I gave a 4,5⭐️ rating! One of them was Red Rising and I am really looking forward to the next one in the series!

message 44: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) That sounds wonderful Mie!

message 45: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments In August I could still enjoy a couple of weeks holiday, and I really mixed up the genres I was reading. From sci-fi over macabre murders to romances 😊 My best read of the month was - rather surprisingly - The Rosie Project. So sweet and funny!

According to the calendar summer is now over, but as an avid reader I look forward to spending rainy days in the company of good books 😍

message 46: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments September summary:

I am getting better at choosing books, that I really WANT to read, instead of what fits into my schedule or a challenge or what I think I ought to read...

That doesn’t mean they are all 5 star books, but I had f.ex. been meaning to read 11/22/63 for 2 years, but it is almost 900 pages, so I kept putting it off.

And then it turned out to be one of the best books I’ve ever read!

I hope I won’t be making that mistake again 😉

message 47: by Mie (new)

Mie | 2164 comments October summary:

Read a lot this month, but many of them were short ones. My best read, though, was It Ends with Us - I laughed and cried 😍

I can’t help it - I started planning for next year! So, I know which books wil definitely be read, and which probably will be read - now I need some prompts to match them to...

Come on with popsugar reading challenge, already! 😂

It prompted me to come visit your Personal Challenge thread here.
Gracious, but you read a lot!
I had to giggle a little how you started out the year with the thought to read at a more leisurely pace and yet you read so many books this year!
I'm with you about planning for next year. I started a 2019-tbr shelf and a series-tbr shelf lately so I won't forget later which books I'm saving to read first next year. *rolls eyes

I do understand what you say about the short (monthly) challenges. After I get my yearly and quarterly reading lists decided, I get tempted by a monthly...I'm trying to exercise more prudence. HAHAHA

Mie | 2164 comments Hahaha, I know... My “slow pace reading” plan didn’t go so well!
And that is also why I will do less short term challenges...

There are more books over 500 pages I want to read and more books in English (and my first language is Danish) and I have put them off to fit more books into monthly challenges.

So... Fingers crossed that I will have more luck with that in 2019!

Good luck with your planning. I’ll check out your choices in the challenges and personal folders for next year 😄

oshizu | 5762 comments You know this already, I'm sure, but this year's PopSugar Reading Challenge was announced last year on November 2.

Doesn't that mean that the 2019 PopSugar Reading Challenge will be announced in the next few days?
I'm stupidly excited, haha.
