Think you can 'balance' your book purchases with the money saved from reading books in your existing TBR stack?

No math needed. Instead, let's tally the number of books we read this year ~ Books purchased & read v. Books owned & read in 2018. *Feel free to break up your owned into groups including library borrows and eFreebies. Or, throw those into a separate category for add'l tracking.

How will your scales compare to those in previous years?

description

Goal: By the end of 2018, your 'owned/read' stack should be larger or equal to your 'purchased/read' stack. If so, challenge completed successfully. If not, well, there's always next year! ;)

Note: For this challenge, "owned" books include those purchased no later than 31 Dec 2017. If you pre-ordered AND paid for a book prior to the end of year, but received it (by post) after 1/1/2018, it counts as 'owned', not 'purchased' in 2018.

Additionally, members are welcome to include ANY books (even those outside of the PNR/UF genre), if they'd like to get an accurate total for the year; that is totally up to each participant. Therefore, all formats are allowed; re-reads are allowed (and count as an 'owned' read).

Duration: 1 Jan - 31 Dec 2018

Post Layout: In an attempt to keep things organized for my OCDemoness, let's all follow the same layout for our master post. Please cut & paste the template below and update it throughout the year.

Scale Status: This part will vary depending on your #s.

Members who join are welcome (and encouraged) to post as many daily/monthly/quarterly updates they'd like to share how they are doing throughout the year. Feel free to share those updates in any format you'd like, just remember to update your master list periodically as well.

For those adventurous types: If you'd make the challenge more challenging, you can guesstimate how many books you'll read (buy v. own) and/or set a goal for yourself. If you do, please mention it in your master post.

Which tip is which? If I wanted to say that I was reading more owned books than purchased books, which slash do I use?

message 10: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32706 comments I think it would “tip” closer toward the higher number because it’s “heavier”. So, if you’re reading more purchased than owned, your scale would tip like this:

23/50

But, everyone does it differently, so you can do it whichever way makes most sense to you. If you show your numbers (purchased and read vs. owned and read) it won’t really matter because everyone can see how ya fell for the year. Make sense?

Sam | 1052 comments Yes, it does. Thanks, Steph.

LaurLa | 1207 comments I find it ironic that I my purchases vs freebies is equal. But I still owned more than I acquired, so that is a good thing!!

I'm not game, I seem to acquire a lot more even though I own a lot already :)
