Sarah (sarah23l) I finished Water for Elephants last week and I loved it! It's one of those stories that tugs at your heart strings and stays with you long after you've read the final line.

Dean (cowboys86) | 122 comments I finished Frankenstein today at work, not what I was expecting but I really liked it. Very different to it's film adaptations.

I'm re-reading it at the moment for uni, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it the first time round! Haven't seen any film adaptations though.

Dean (cowboys86) | 122 comments The movie versions aren't all that great, I wouldn't recommend them.

message 205: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't finished anything recently.... I've been sooooo busy, practicing for my school musical tryouts, practicing for my a cappella group, homework, homework, homework, housework, baby sitting, school clubs, and I'm probably forgeting things but I'm just that busy. But hopefully I can finish Hush, Hush over break, cause I really wanna read City of Ashes.

Stephanie (stephaniex88) | 76 comments I literally just finished Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater and I thought it was amazing! I can't wait for the next books in the series. :)

Harriet | 81 comments Dean wrote: "The movie versions aren't all that great, I wouldn't recommend them."

Yeh I probably wouldn't be inclined to watch one anyway... I'm easily scared, and I'm sure it would put a much scarier image in my mind than the one I've formed myself from reading the book!

message 208: by Natasha (new)

Natasha (tashaj) | 1 comments I recently finished Red-Headed stepchild and found it really refreshing. I know some things are the usual, vampires, mages, supernatural and some romance, but I found I really liked the action and twists and it wasn't focused on the romance as much as usual vampire fictions lately. I'm very happy I picked this up and recommend this to all you Urban Fantasy folks!

message 209: by [deleted user] (new)

Almost done with Hush, Hush I read 100 pages yesterday, only about ninty to go!

message 210: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I just finished Eleventh Hour and I highly recommend it.

message 211: by Mark (new)

Mark Rayner (markarayner) | 9 comments Just finished The Uncommon Reader, by one of the Beyond the Fringe guys. An amusing story about the Queen becoming a reader. Readers and writers will enjoy it, especially.

Haha, well they aren't very scary... even for the easily scared. Frankenstein's Monster is nowhere near as deep in the movies... well the ones that I've seen anyways. Which is why the book surprised me, it was just so different from what I've always known.

I was ultimately disappointed with HUSH, HUSH. Started out great and fizzled out.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just finished On the Beach. Well worth reading.

Melodie (melodieco) ~♡Katie♡~ wrote: "i finished Shadowland today and i loved it i just cant wait for the next one"

I am close to finishing Shadowland (The Immortals, #3) by Alyson Noel . I REALLY didn't like Blue Moon (The Immortals, #2) by Alyson Noel , and hoped SHADOWLAND would be better. It started out okay, but has quickly deteriorated to the point that it's pissing me off.

message 217: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) I really liked Silent Night, Haunted Night (Nicki Styx, #4) by Terri Garey by Terri Garey. I really DIDN'T like Shadowland (The Immortals, #3) by Alyson Noel and didn't much care for [image error] either.

message 218: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah23l) I just finished The Gargoyle today and I loved it! It is definitely one of my favorite books of the year!

message 219: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) I just finished, yesterday, Merle's Door Lessons from a Freethinking Dog by Ted Kerasote . Loved it. True story spanning Merle's life with his "human", Ted. Cried my eyes out last three chapters.

Great book! It's been awhile, but I might go back & re-read it.

I have Shadowland at home to read. Why did you not like it?

Well, for one thing I really hate Roman. I find him a waste of time. And the story just seemed to get nowhere for me. Ever once again did STUPID things. I realize she's a teenager and they're prone to doing stupid things, but it's become really tiresome.

message 224: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished Hush, Hush Sunday night, it was a good ending but I was kind of let down... I don't know why.

message 225: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) I recently finished The Help and Say You're One of Them - both were such great reads. I would definitely recommend both to everyone!

Diane (dianedj) Nadia wrote: "I recently finished The Help and Say You're One of Them - both were such great reads. I would definitely recommend both to everyone!"

Nadia, I have two stories left in Say You're One of Them. Pretty powerful book.

message 227: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah23l) Just finished The Gargoyle! I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its descriptive qualities and for the beautifully woven tales of love and loss. Excellent book!

message 228: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) Diane D., I completely agree with you! It is definitely a powerful book. There is just so much in there that gets you thinking. In fact I watched Oprah yesterday and she had on the author of this book called, Half the Sky, which is about the oppressions that women face on a daily basis (in developing countries) and it caught my attention and so now I have another book to add to my TBR list.

I loved The Help! It was a great book!

Finished The Lightning Thief a while ago, and while I didn't adore it, I thought it was pretty good. I'm looking forward to #2.

Ditto Artemis Fowl #1... it was pretty good, but I suspect #2 will be better.

message 231: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I didn't care much for the way Battle Royale wound up, but overall I liked it quite a bit.

message 232: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (showjumperpro) I'm glad you liked Battle Royale Jo!! It's one of my faves! I just finished The Hunger Games and I absolutely loved it! I was expecting it to be a "kid-friendly/non violent" rip off of Battle Royale but I was so wrong. Though the killing game idea is similar and a boy and girl team up and both survive, it was very original and fun to read.

I've heard of Half the Sky, Nadia. I generally like the books she recommends. Let me know what you think of Half the Sky if you read it.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Just finish Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld and loved it.

When I started readin this, I thought omg, what kind of book have I got here. I heard loads of rave reviews about this book, so I thought this might help me get back to readin again. WELL, what can I say about this book. It certainly gives you an insight to what we wanted to see of kids at the age of 16 and havin operations to be made like a supermodel. I can't wait til I read more on how Tally changes and her life.

8/10 for me on this book and series so far.

Never read any of his and can't wait to get stuck into his next book.

Jo, I had never read his books and that had me gripped since I started it 2-3 days ago.

message 236: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just finished Jack of Shadows. Wow! Even though I've read it several times, it still gets to me. A really fantastic blend of SF & Fantasy.

message 237: by Sadie (new)

Sadie I just finished Graceling and really enjoyed it.

message 238: by Maddie (last edited Dec 10, 2009 06:49AM) (new)

Maddie (showjumperpro) How are the Sookie Stackhouse series?? I have the first book and I've been meaning to read it but I can't figure out if the series is supposed to be funny/romantic/action/mystery etc.

Oh, and I just finished Graceling too! I loved it.

message 239: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) Jo wrote: "Finished Club Dead. It was the best one in the series so far. Looking forward to reading the next one."

Well, the next one, DEAD TO THE WORLD, is the best of the bunch!

message 240: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I think the main reason each Sookie book is better than the one before is because they're such fast, light reads. With each new book, the characters & world grows deeper. There isn't much room in each book for it, but it adds up.

message 241: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (bellamy22) Anybody else like Quinn?? I'm an Eric fan...but Quinn is very cool.
By the way, Eric showed up in a Lady GaGa video that I saw the other day!!! I loved it!

message 242: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Just finished [image error] . Was ok.

message 243: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Just finished Pretties. Wow, what a book. Had me stuck to it over the past 48hrs. This is a great 2nd book for this series. Shows you how Tally and the gang start thinking for themselves and all the trouble they get into lol. Can't wait to see what happens next in the next installment.

I would say 8/10 again for me.

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ รђ๏รђคภคђ (shoey924) | 53 comments I think the best book I've read over the last couple of months has to be The Maze Runner!

I loved it! I am also reading Need and I'm quite riveted! I hope the ending doesn't spoil it, though!

Yes, he's in the Paparazzi video. I cannot abide Lady Gaga, but I watched the video on youtube, just so I could see Alex Skarsgaard!

Jason Clay (goodreadscomwillshakespeare) | 74 comments Recently finished Darkmans by Nicola Barker. Its a huge book, but I enjoyed it that much it took me about a fortnight to read. Its a comic story but also very creepy to. There's a spooky little boy in it called Fleet and he haunts your imagination.

message 247: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 4 comments I've just finished The Observations It took me a while to get used to the style of writing but was definitely worth it! I really enjoyed it in the end and couldn't put it down! x
