The One discussion

So you know how it ending perfectly and all and they got married and stuff. Well wouldn't it have been more exciting I guess if the prince had married Kriss and America had to go home instead of the attack? Like I feel there should be two endings where there's one of him marrying Kirss then running back to America one day like wouldn't that have been good. He hated her towards the end and just thinking about what would've happened if the attack didn't happen. Yes the ending was soo good but just think about if they weren't together for a couple of months or that he didn't pick her and was going to marry Kriss but america comes and marrys him. Like that would've made my heart split. Just thinking about makes me want a second ending

Well, that would have been pretty crappy for Kriss...

I don't think he hated America at the end. He was jealous and hurt and mad at her - which really makes him a big hypocrite, in my opinion since he was much more intimate with alot more people over the course of the series.

Right before the attack, I wanted to punch Maxon in the face even though he's awesome! I think that the point of the attack was to show Maxon that he loved America and didn't want her to die. Also, since the book would be boring without a grief factor if they just ended up marrying each other. The attack added that grief to the book, and when you finished it, you were more then satisfied with the ending. Even though you feel sad about the deaths, The One didn't make you feel like it was unfinished(I think we would all be very happy if we could read more about Maxon and America, though)

i agree with the jealousy comment above, i don't think that he hated her at all, he was heartbroken and super jealous. i think that part of it was that he didn't want to admit to himself that things that he thought were happening were true, and then it turns out that they were.

so...i think that it could have been interesting to see more of a Maxon / Kriss think happen, but i think that it would have been disingenuous.

Firstly i have to say that whole series was absolute perfection!
I was so pissed when i got 30 pages till the end and they fought (again). And Maxon he was being so stupid and hurt and eventhough he did worse things he still decided to give up - so annoying.
But than the attack and sacrifice and everything (including Aspen and Lucy) and it was brilliant.
I must admit that no matter how sad i was with the queens death it was very needed in the books, because it gave some bittersweet ending. I would consider it too sweet if they would just get married.
My only regret: why did Celeste have to die? In the One she was the best character - she evolved and became this new person, she was amazing!

I know, right? I could deal with the queen dying, but the author didn't have ti kill Celeste! There was so much character development there!

At least she died knowing that everybody forgave her. I think that's why the author did that. She wanted someone good that everyone started to love to die. Maybe? I mean the queen died trying to save someone but Celeste died for no good reason, it was just to make the book seem like it wasn't going to have a very happy ending without killing off a character we started to love?? I don't even know lolol

you know what bothers me? that freaking ASPEN walks her down the isle after every thing.

I know right! I'm just thinking they just became friends! Why did it have to happen then? They were supposed to become good friends and then Marlee and Celeste also become friends and everyone's happy! She should have been given some time to be a good person!!!

Ahh, but that's why it hurt so much and that's why Kierra Cass did it. I have to admit -- it worked! :'(

Yeah, like the ending can't be all happy at the end.

I was literally yelling at the pages when Maxon was about to pick Kriss. ''NO! YOU IDIOT SHE LOVES YOU! SHES ALWAYS LOVED YOU! SHE GOT OVER ASPEN!''
And I was also horrified when Celeste was shot... I hated her after she was such a bitch in the rest of the series. But in book 3 she ended up being really sweet. And we all started to like her :(
I'm happy with the ending overall. Even Aspen was happy with Lucy. I just feel bad for Anne... she liked Aspen and then just disappeared after the attack. And I really liked the queen too. But tbh i'm glad the king was killed
